He's the defining heel worker of this generation, feeling always like the man to beat, be it that he's so dominant or so hated. He's become a bit neutered on the fed's main roster (rip piledriver), but he's still probably the best worker in the world and definitely the best in that company right now."

He's not psychological or deep, he's surface-level greedy. That's textbook. I would have to say ring general just fits him, barely, but i don't agree with his character or his charisma."

Things haven't really gone in the right direction since he defeated Cena and AJ Styles. He got Undisputed title shots, but did he win? Well, no. That would have been the perfect scenario; and while a great many people dislike him, you can't deny what he has accomplished. His arrival was a brilliant move. Placing him in NXT and NXT UK paid off, too--delivering stellar matches against Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, and, of course, Ilja Dragunov. That shouldn't be forgotten, as they were the ones driving NXT forward at the time. He's a two-time World Heavyweight Champion, and now we just have to wait for WWE to put him back at the top of the weekly show."

He sells exceptionally well & is a master of coming back from big setbacks to reassert ring dominance. When he appears for talking segments it just hits different in a big way because you're actively aware that he could tear whoever he's talking to's head off within a matter of seconds. His signature moves are brutal to watch & are cool as hell. He deserved more than to be thrown into the Jey nonsense. He successfully lost a lot of weight upon arriving to WWE & looks like a greek god now. The way he's being booked these days is really kind of insane."

He's displayed himself in the form of various gimmicks, he can be a funny heel, a neutral heel, or one of the best ever heels depending on his mood that day. You can already see his improvement over the years, from BVW to WALTER to now Gunther. Now, here's to say I do miss Walter a bit, but to be honest he hasn't changed that much besides physical body."

Losing to Cody 3 times in a row, achieving nothing on Smackdown, and being just a whiner next to Nick Aldis is not what I expected from booking one of the best wrestlers in the world. Hopefully, one day Gunther will realize that his career can continue in much better places than WWE. However, I give an 8 for his previous achievements, which made his way into the main stream and definitely got into my heart."

With his offense, and the way he carries himself, he really makes all of his matches look like real fights. It's clear that, despite him being almost 40, the WWE still has huge plans for him. He's retired AJ Styles, John Cena, Goldberg, and Nick Aldis. If that doesn't show you that they're strapping a rocket to him, I'm not sure what does. 10/10."

canvasandchops15 wrote on 02.08.2026:
"Gunther understands that authority cannot be manufactured by shouting about it. A wrestler establishes authority by making every movement appear necessary. His posture is disciplined, his pace is controlled, and his offense carries the old-fashioned virtue of looking useful. The chop is not decoration. It changes breathing, confidence, and distance. A hold is not applied merely to show knowledge. It forces the contest into a shape that benefits him. This approach gives even a simple exchange considerable weight. Modern wrestling often mistakes speed for urgency, but Gunther recognizes that urgency can also come from the fear of what happens when he finally closes the distance. There are occasions when the severity becomes predictable, particularly if the match relies too heavily on repeated punishment without a new development. Yet the fundamentals rarely disappear. He carries himself as though the ring is a place of professional consequence. That seriousness is valuable. When Gunther stands over the result, the final image generally explains the entire match: discipline survived; resistance did not."

But does that alone make him a legendary figure in wrestling like so many people on the internet claim? Absolutely not. Do legends in the wrestling industry become legends only because they are good in the ring? No. You need charisma, you need character, you need mic skills, you need to actually get crowd reactions and you need a larger than life personality. Gunther has none of these things. He gets mediocre to non existent crowd reactions. He retired 3 legends in the wrestling industry and he has ZERO heel heat on him. That's embarrassing. His aura is in the negatives. I went to Summerslam both nights in 2025, and I saw zero people wear Gunther merch of even mention Gunther despite the fact he was main eventing night 1. Tells you everything you need to know about his aura. This guy is a perfect mid carder but why are we acting like he's a god or an untouchable force? That makes zero sense to me. The IWC thirsts at the mouth over this guy and it makes zero sense. When Gunther is on the screen, you're more than likely gonna get a good to great match and I appreciate that a lot about him which is why I give him a 7. However you can say the same thing about someone like Ilja Dragonov and I don't see the IWC glazing him to death. Nothing makes sense here. Gunther is not at all a bad WWE superstar but he's not amazing either."

In the ring he's performing like an wrestler from 1980-1990 for me, chops, powerbombs, dives and etc. His reign as an Intercontinental Champion was very good because he was really dominant and he had Imperium by his side, then he became a WWE Champion, showed some simple reign and lost it to the Jey Uso, what was kinda stupid, because he lost his title by submission to someone, who doesn't fit to the role of Gunther's beater, but because he lost to Sami Zayn and Jey Uso, we got the thing that he lost to himself, when he was underestame his opponents and thought that he was unbeatable, now Gunther is a main-eventer, he beat John Cena and AJ Styles in their last matches, he was WWE World Champion, Intercontinental Champion, he was a superstar at Indi and WWE UK... I don't hate Gunther, but I don't see future in him and i still don't have choice and try just to get him and say thanks that he atleast better than Jinder Mahal and etc. xD But for me Gunther still overrated and I'll never be his fan. I'm sorry chops , a sleeper , powerbomb and a splash don't make you a great worker he makes John Cena look like a technician. For having the nick name the ring general when he only has four moves of doom is ironic. On the mic it really does feel like his cutting the same promo over and over again getting cheap heat from the local crowd basically how his better then everyone or how his gonna destroy a opponent very repetitive. Even currently him ending John Cena and AJ styles careers was a waste they could have gone with someone like bron breakker or Jevon evans someone who could actually use the moment and become a huge star instead they went with a 40 year old who's not over and never will be over . You would think winning those to matches would lead to getting over but it hasn't."

His style is the complete opposite of flashy high-flyers, relying instead on raw power, brutal chops, and methodical pacing that makes every move feel impactful. What makes him stand out is how realistic his matches feel. Every strike looks devastating, and his ability to control the pace of a match keeps the audience locked in from start to finish. He doesn't waste motion everything he does has purpose, which adds to his aura as a serious, no-nonsense competitor. His presence alone is intimidating, and he carries himself like a true champion. Whether it's a short match or a long title defense, WALTER consistently delivers performances that feel important and hard-hitting. Some fans might find his slower, more grounded style less flashy, but that's exactly what makes him unique in today's wrestling scene. He brings a classic, hard-hitting approach that stands out in a world full of high spots. Overall, WALTER is a powerhouse who proves that sometimes less is more and that pure intensity can be just as entertaining as spectacle."

He has a very simple move-set that features some of the most common moves: chops, lariats, powerbombs, and sleeper holds. Lesser wrestlers if they tried to just do the moves Gunther does would fail but Gunther 100% makes it work through his brutality, his in ring storytelling, and his understanding of psychology. And although it's not as great as his wrestling, I personally find his mic skills underrated. One of the best to ever do ever do it and probably by the time he retires I will move his rating up to a 10."

[10.0] "Gunther is the best pro wrestler of modern times. I've followed him for years, and the thing I admire most about him is his ability to have a good match with virtually anyone. Especially during his WALTER run, he dominated the independent scene for years and consistently stayed at the top of his performance level with one great match and performance after another. His WWE career, meanwhile, has provided some of the most watchable things in the rather dull modern pro-wrestling landscape of recent years. His Intercontinental Championship reign was not only the longest in history, but also arguably the best in terms of match quality. The style Gunther brought to WWE is completely unique - it's neither NJPW's strong style nor exactly the Kobashi-style approach. It's entirely his own - brutal and unforgiving. Some people criticize him for having a limited move set, but what truly makes him terrifying is the viciousness of his offense - the attacks that seem to rip the lungs out of his opponents, especially his devastating chops. Gunther is a true master at creating an underdog story or presenting himself as an unstoppable beast. He can work with any type of psychology, and creating and telling stories in the ring comes naturally to him. His recent "Career-Killer" run has given him so much momentum that he has already written his name among the greats. He's the man who made John Cena submit, retired AJ Styles, and destroyed Goldberg in his final match - and now he's waiting for new prey to eliminate. He's also incredible as a heel. His ability to generate heat and make the audience genuinely hate him is something very rare today - moments like shouting "Hala Madrid! " in Barcelona are perfect examples. Amazingly brutal offense, longevity, great selling, strong storytelling, and true Goliath-level performances. Gunther is already one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time."

Everything Gunther does is so well calculated for a wrestling and story telling that it's almost scary how well everything is executed (except maybe his Splash). His promos aren't the greatest, but they're still pretty well done and he's able to generate emotions from the crowd and he still has some entertaining charisma to him (mock AJ styles entrance). This guy can get a good match of just about anyone, even a 50+ year old Goldberg suffering from multiple ligament injuries. His moves aren't flashy but he plays the role of a powerful and world class wrestling heel. The only wrestler to ever get me to cry (John cenas final match). 10/10"
thefool wrote on 17.02.2026:
[10.0] "Professional wrestling has always had a place for the enforcer, the mountain of a man who serves as an immovable object in the ring. Over the years characters like Bruiser Brody, Vader, and Stan Hansen carved out legacies built on legitimate toughness and an aura of danger that transcended the worked nature of the business. These were men who didn't need elaborate gimmicks because their presence alone was enough to make audiences believe someone was about to get hurt. In an era where wrestling has become increasingly reliant on scripted promos, overproduced entrances, and performers who look more like fitness models than fighters, the question becomes whether there's still room for that kind of old school brutality. Gunther answered that question by chopping people so hard that audiences wince. The Austrian (formerly WALTER on the independent scene and NXT UK) has built his persona around a simple concept: he is a wrestler who wrestles, and if you step into the ring with him, you're going to suffer for it. There's no elaborate backstory about childhood trauma or supernatural powers. He's a 6'4" mountain who treats professional wrestling like a legitimate sport, and his matches reflect that mentality with an intensity that's become increasingly rare in modern WWE. The character work is rooted entirely in his in-ring performance rather than backstage segments or lengthy promos. He doesn't need to tell you he's dominant because every match demonstrates it. His moveset is built around strikes that look and sound devastating, holds that appear genuinely painful, and a methodical pace that suggests he's not just winning matches but punishing opponents for daring to challenge him. The approach is refreshingly straightforward in an industry obsessed with "sports entertainment" over actual wrestling. When it comes to presentation, Gunther has clearly been influenced by old school European wrestling, particularly the hard-hitting style that defined his work in wXw before WWE. The gear is simple, almost utilitarian. The entrance is no-nonsense. There are no pyrotechnics or elaborate light shows, just a man walking to the ring with the confidence of someone who knows he's going to hurt you. One thing worth noting is that Gunther's physique has changed since his WALTER days on the independents. The leaner look suits WWE's presentation standards, but there's something to be said for the more imposing presence he had when he carried more weight. That version felt even more like an immovable force, a throwback to when wrestlers didn't need to be shredded to be threatening. The in-ring work is where Gunther truly excels. His chops have become legendary not because they're worked differently, but because he delivers them with such force that the sound echoes through arenas and leaves welts on opponents' chests. Watch any Gunther match and you'll see wrestlers legitimately bracing themselves before taking his strikes. The selling isn't exaggerated for dramatic effect, it's a natural response to actually being hit that hard. Beyond the strikes, Gunther works with a deliberate pace that harks back to territory era wrestling. He doesn't rush through sequences or rely on constant high spots. Instead he builds matches methodically, breaking down opponents systematically while maintaining complete control. This old school approach does come with limitations. Viewers who prefer faster paced matches may find Gunther's style too slow. The lack of elaborate character work beyond "I'm better than you" can seem one-dimensional. That said, these aren't flaws so much as conscious choices. Gunther isn't trying to be everything to everyone. He's presenting a specific style of wrestling that's been largely abandoned by mainstream promotions, and committing to it completely. What truly sets Gunther apart is his commitment to being a pure heel. In an era where every villain seems desperate for cheers or cool points, Gunther has never once pandered to the audience. He's not looking for respect, he's not winking at fans who appreciate his work, and he's certainly not interested in being anyone's favorite. His entire purpose is to be the final boss that the right babyface overcomes at the right time. His Intercontinental Championship reign demonstrated this perfectly. Rather than the typical WWE approach of having champions appear vulnerable, Gunther dominated his division for over 600 days. He made the championship feel important again simply by treating it as important. Challengers weren't presented as equals who happened to lose, they were presented as people who weren't good enough to take the title from him. When he finally lost the Heavyweight title, it should have been to someone who had earned that moment. The decision to have Jey Uso end the reign was one of those creative missteps that occasionally plague even the best characters. Gunther's reign deserved a conclusion that meant something, that elevated the right person at the right time. Instead we got a feel-good moment that served the wrong story. For fans who remember when wrestling felt more legitimate, Gunther is a breath of fresh air. For fans who appreciate strong style or European wrestling, his work is a masterclass. The commitment to old school heel work, the legitimately stiff striking, and the complete refusal to seek audience approval all combine to create something authentic in an increasingly artificial product. Gunther isn't trying to reinvent wrestling or push boundaries in terms of character work. He's simply executing a time-tested formula with such conviction that it feels fresh again. In an industry that constantly chases trends, there's something refreshing about a performer who knows exactly what he is and refuses to compromise. He exists to put over the right babyface at the right time, and when that actually happens, it's wrestling storytelling at its finest."

[10.0] "Currently, my favorite wrestler. When it comes to in-ring performance and playing the perfect, archetypal Heel. I absolutely love his heel work and how he transforms hatred into positive energy. His facial expressions, his flawless basic wrestling--thanks to which he delivers one masterwork after another. I'm so ashamed that I didn't like him earlier. And it's such a paradox that I liked him right after the match with John Cena, and it changed my whole perspective on wrestling in general. And because of that, I get to enjoy it even more. Thank you, Gunther or WALTER, whoever you are, but your matches with Sheamus, Ilya Dragunov, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre, John Cena, AJ Styles, LA Knight, Je'Von Evans--those are true works of art, deserving of a detailed analysis."

[5.0] "Boring. WALTER/Gunther is a phenomenal wrestler who's being overpushed in relation to who he is as a performer. He's simply *not* that guy. He's not a guy who is compelling enough to be a top heel and making him a "legend killer" doesn't up his ante, it just sours the casual fanbase on him more. He'd have a lot more stock as a gatekeeper type, like he was with the Intercontinental championship, especially when a guy like Oba Femi comes along who is much more intense than Gunther as a character, looks much more imposing, and has a far higher ceiling than Gunther could reasonably achieve. As I said, phenomenal wrestler, top five in the world, but the overpushing is quickly approaching Roman Reigns levels."
[10.0] "The fact that he doesn't care about his merch sales and whatever other "entertainment" stuff you need to be good in WWE is what makes him so good. He's not your typical WWE wrestler. He doesn't care about entertaining the fans. He's there to whoop everyone's ass and that will always work if you're one of the best bell to bell wrestlers in the world which is what Gunther is."
