Great-O-Khan

[9.0] "Don't know a great deal about the Great-O-Khan, having only watched a couple matches, but so far I've been incredibly impressed by what I've seen. Overall he seems to have a good character and he's also excellent in the ring. Of course there's better wrestlers, but he still deserves his overall high rating from me in my opinion"

[7.0] "While I personally think the gimmick is very outdated and kinda abyssmal, he's just a very solid worker that I can really appreciate. The more I watch him the more he reminds me of those hidden gem jobbers back in the attitude-ruthless aggression era. Great work Tomoyuki-san."

[10.0] "Just a great character and a good throwback wrestlers, he doesn't do anything flashy and seems odd in a modern day setting, he is great but I admit he depends on the opponent to shine in a match but I like a lot his technical skills, his offence and his great aura. This guy has powerful charisma"

[7.0] "One of the better characters NJPW has introduced this decade. A Yellow Peril Mongolian villain here to save Japan and uplift their peasantry... whenever he isn't off gooning to anime girls. He's good in the ring too, I guess."

[6.0] "O-Khans alright and everything but he hasn't done anything that special to make him stand out. Yeah sure his wrestling skills are alright but he doesn't meet the expectations that a lot of fans had for him. In recent years he's been doing alright for himself."

[6.0] "Great-O-Khan is ok and all, but he's seriously juxtaposed to any superstar billing right now that his status as a main eventer in NJPW is flat-out weird. I'm personally a fan of his amateur-style, and he genuinely works as a funny KOPW champion, but there's simply a lot better in NJPW. Additionally, Great-O-Khan can also be the fucking pits at time, as he's definitely not a guy who carry anyone to a quality match, and like I previously stated, he's not reliable enough or charismatic enough to properly draw a large crowd. Sometimes I think that he's better suited to a company like DDT or GLEAT, as those environments seem much more suited to him than the 'King Of Sports' NJPW."

[6.0] "He is a solid wrestler but nothing stands out about him.. Not sure I understand why he was pushed as high as he was at the G1 Climax and why he got a championship match with then IWGP World Champion Tetsuya Naito. However all, he isn't an annoying character and doesn't detract."

[6.0] "Great-O-Khan obviously isn't the guy to build a company around, but he's pretty solid, I enjoy a lot his works, and his style is pretty interesting as well, the guy has a huge martial arts background, so he has a great move-set, and the whole crazy samurai gimmick works out very well. The techniques are there, he only needs to make better selections and figure it out things... when he does, it's always enjoyable."

[7.0] "Tbh if u would have asked my rate two months ago it would be low but with O-Khan has ore then impressed me in the G1 and with the right opponents he, lll put on a great match"

[7.0] "I love this guy. Is he on the level of NJPW elite? No, but he has great presentation, great personality, and can be a lot of fun with the right opponents. At only 33 he has another 10 years to go before he starts declining so it's all uphill from here."

[4.0] "A decent wrestler that is completely out of his depth working for NJPW. He's more suited to comedy or brawls than actual straight wrestling matches, and everything from his gear to his body to his weird promos would be far better suited to being an Osaka Pro wrestler that occasionally showed up on AJPW under-cards than as a mid-card champion in NJPW."

[7.0] "Tomoyuki Oka/Great O-Khan might be one of the most promising young wrestlers today. He is well-rounded in legit combat sports and has a great in-ring presence with a command of the ring and an ability to mix things up and have multiple facets to his approach as a wrestler. He can wrestle shoot-style matches one night, and then have a classic NJPW brawl or epic the next. He is the future of NJPW and will have a great future if NJPW doesn't waste his prodigious talents. I used to be a bit cold on Oka but I've come around now and see why he's so highly regarded. 2024 update: While O-Khan is still a very good wrestler on his day, NJPW hasn't utilized him as I hoped for. As a result, he doesn't seem motivated as much these days but can still put on a decent performance when called upon."

"O-Khan is unironically one of the best people in wrestling today from an outside of the ring perspective. The story of him saving that girl and then remaining completely in character afterwards is incredible. Very underrated in terms of in-ring work. His match with Moxley at Power Struggle was surprisingly good and he has a variety of unique offense in the ring. Pretty much the defacto face of United Empire when Ospreay isn't around and he deserves it."

[8.0] "based O-Khan, admitting it did take some time for him to find the sweet spot of the zombie gimmick, but when he did, it is tremendous. Awesome theme song, incredibly hilarious personality in character and out of character, and adds so much flavor to United Empire, especially he's tag team with Jeff Cobb. Whether it's the Mongolian chop, or the Subaru sheep killer, or the FGO, or the iron claw, or the Eliminator, or all the judo throws, he stands out so much from the rest of the pack. if you are watching NJPW solely looking for high-intensity fast-paced workrate matches that's dime in a dozen nowadays, and are awed that people like him, you are missing out so much. All Hail!"

[8.0] "Great O khan is good. On a normal day he is a (7.5), however with the right opponent, can have a great match. Even though his character is slightly silly, I still think he's cool. ALL HAIL!"

[2.0] "I really don't get why he's appealing to some people. His in-ring stuff is really not great, his character work is nice but that just doesn't compensate the boring matches he has. There's also seemingly no improvement even though everyone has/had high expectations for this guy. Really don't need to see him anymore as he just makes me want to turn New Japan off."

[8.0] "O-Khan is a guy that I don't think fits into what the Okada era of NJPW wants, but I think that's what makes him interesting. He's a talented mat wrestler as a result of his legitimate background, but he's also a big bruiser with a lot of charisma ideal for gimmick matches and messy brawls. The long-winded story-heavy modern NJPW style full of fast sequences and prolonged downtime doesn't really slot in a worker like him well, but as I said he's a great part of the roster because he can provide something that isn't that on a NJPW card without issue. It helps that he's an endlessly likable dude both in and out of the business. Perhaps he has a ceiling, and perhaps he'd be better off in another promotion that could utilize him better, but I always smile when I see O-Khan in a singles match and that's just the sign of a good worker."

[6.0] "Given the right dance partner he can have good-very good matches, but otherwise he's vastly overrated by some I think. Good enough on the mic but I find him very unathletic, I think he has a pretty bad/dorky gimmick and most importantly has very average in-ring skills."

[4.0] "Personally never seen him ever do nothing all that interesting or even have a really good match, he's just here"

[5.0] "He's a fun personality, his wrestling is certainly unique, but to me skirts the line of a style bordering on hokey. Unlike guys like Kota Ibushi who can do goofy comedy spots in a Yano match, but then pour it on in a neck cracking bonanza with Tanahashi in the next - O'Khan just seems to exist as a comfortable midcard filler."

"Where to even begin with this guy? He is just phenomenal in the ring and a ladies man outside of the ring. Since this is my first comment since joining, I can't give my rating. But he is the embodiment of a 10.0"

[6.0] "Really hard for me to get into his ring work. As a character he's fun and unapologetic in his (respectful) appetite for women and glory. But his matches just underwhelm me, particularly any of his signature moves, and I cant name a single match of his that really shines by NJPW standards."

[7.0] "There is sooooooo much potential he has the potential to be New Japans next great big star. He is a fantastic wrestler and can cut a great promo."

[9.0] "Great O Khan fucking rules. His in ring is high quality and no wrestler in New Japan commits as much to the character as he does. Truly a great."

[9.0] "He's so fucking good at wrestling, and he's only going to get better. Great, unique moveset, great strikes, great selling, a good storyteller. In-ring he has proven since he started being an active part of the NJPW roster that he's one of the best. His gimmick is also super unique and weird. Despite being such a good wrestler, he's perfectly in-tune with the goofier side of pro wrestling, which manifests in his mannerisms, gimmick and moveset. Despite this goofiness, he's got a great look and an incredible presence and charisma. He's one of those guys that is just effortlessly cool, which is funny because he's a massive weeaboo (well, he IS Japanese, so it would be more correct to call him an otaku) irl. He's always on Twitter talking about anime and manga and shit. Just an absolute legend. Stan the fuck out of this man."

[8.0] "He's a great wrestler, was one of the best young lions of his class but since coming back he has been booked pretty badly, not used well at all. Over time he kinda made his O-Khan gimmick work a little bit but this thing really wasn't a gift. He's a great technical wrestler, I hope someday he'll get better opportunities to show that."

[8.0] "I really like him. He Is not the best wrestler on the Planet but he has a great personality and he Is an essenzial part of the united empir. ****1/4"

[5.0] "For a guy that is trained in so many forms of Marital Arts, none of it seems to translate well to his pro wrestling matches. I also find it hard to get into his matches as well. He is also low in the charisma department. He is meant to be lower on the card similar to Chase Owens."

[5.0] "I never really cared for Oka back in his Young Lion days. Unfortunately for him it was the best class of Young Lions in a long time which didn't help him. He then rocked up in RevPro with this goofy gimmick but the guy tried as hard as he could to get it over. Now back in NJPW and he's still getting better. There's some bad tendencies he'll need to grow out of but I think he's got a decent future."

[4.0] "When he first debuted with the Great-O-Khan gimmick, I instantly hated it but it honestly grew on me and he works the gimmick pretty well and I look forward to seeing his future."

[8.0] "He's seriously Japanese Ric Flair, check his instagram. He's a great part of UE along with all the other boys there. Not quite world champ material but I could see him having a few NNEVER runs as well as a few more tag runs."

[6.0] "I got a problem with the representation of this guy because njpw has been featuring him as a monster heel and he isn't even got the height or the physique to be taken seriously for that rule, but he can work so I rate him 6"

[8.0] "A gimmick like this, done by a man and a performer like former Tomoyuki Oka is, should not have worked the way it has. But it did. And we rejoice. All Hail."

[5.0] "I just don't get O-Khan. The people in the wrestling scene whose reviews and opinions pieces I usually trust (or at least follow) tell me that O-Khan is going to be one of NJPW's next big stars, and they even say that he's already great and putting on great matches, but I really don't see any of that whenever I see him. He's got some good amateur/catch-wrestling skills, and he can competently work the standard NJPW 'strong-style' formula with all the mindless strike trades and everything, but when it comes to his ridiculous outfit and his incredibly hokey gimmick spots (those stupidly slow, weak-looking Mongolian Chops, his 'Claw spot, and his high-pitched screams are bush-league and I won't hear otherwise), those things are just far too obnoxious and embarrassing for me to take seriously. Are people just liking those parts of O-Khan's game ironically, just like how people ironically like low-tier wrestlers like Chase Owens? Because I don't see any other reason to be so high on O-Khan when he's basically just ripped right out of the goofy 80s US territories. I'm sure he could probably be a pretty good worker if not saddled with the weight of that dorky gimmick, but apparently it's over with a decent portion of local fans, so hey, what do I know. All I know is that while he has had a few good matches since returning from excursion, I don't foresee him having any great matches until he drops the dopey costume and character and gets serious. Maybe he can go to NWA Powerrr if he wants to play this bush-league character, since modern-day NJPW clearly isn't a style he's able to work to."

[7.0] "Lord of the Mongolian chops! Solid midcarder with good attention to detail in his matches. Really puts lots of effort into his moves. One of my favourite attires and gimmicks across the board also."

[7.0] "I've changed my mind about O-Khan since he first debuted. Originally gave him a 5/10, but now it's a solid 7.25/10. Used to dread seeing on my screen but now it's a usually a bright spot. Still has his shortcomings but he's improved dramatically."

[8.0] "A good power wrestler and grappler with a weird ass gimmick he somehow makes work. Always knew Oka was a big ass dork but man him incorporating it into his matches at times is great lol. Bringing vtuber shit into wrestling should not be entertaining but here we are. I do think he has a chance to do more outside of whatever the United Empire is though. Still great regardless"

"Strange outfit, very strange techniques. It's an atypical wrestler but it's cool in NJPW. Not my prefered member of united empire."

He still has to improve his arsenal a little bit, but he's already too enjoyable to watch. Didn't like him at first, but now he's one of my favourites in NJPW. Bow down to the Great O-Khan."

[6.0] "The guy is a very good character worker but his in ring ability isn't quite as good. His body movement, the way he carries himself, all speaks top star but he can't deliver a good match without being carried by a far better wrestler. Hope he improves because I am a fan of United Empire."

[8.0] "A really good wrestler who went from a young lion to a decent mid-card level star with an original jiangshi gimmick/member of Ospreay's United Empire."

[7.0] "When I first watched NJPW during G1 Climax 30 and saw this man becoming a guy who wrestle Okada that was in the G1 I started to strongly dislike him because he was very far of a good wrestler in the promotion. But he is a guy that I watch a lot in all the show produced by New Japan and then when he was in the New Japan cup I saw with my eyes that he was becoming better than he was few months ago. I hope that he will continue to improve because in my opinion the guy is far from his best right now and he looks like a work a lot on this. From 2/10 to 7/10 in about a year"

[7.0] "Hasn't really wowed me thus far and I'm not the biggest fan of his gimmick, but I think that Oka is talented enough that he won't be hindered too badly by it, and I can see him becoming an important factor in New Japan for years to come, mostly around the NEVER title scene."

[7.0] "I've been genuinely impressed with Great-O-Khan, especially since the beginning of this year. I just hope that his gimmick doesn't create an unfair ceiling for him moving forward."

[8.0] "Despite both Ospreay and Cobb being more impressive in the ring, O-Khan is the heart and soul of the (United) Empire. He's the group's mouthpiece, so good at talking and screaming that he doesn't even need a microphone to cut his promo's. His gimmick and ring gear are unique and O-Khan plays his creepy Mongolian zombie/mad warlord role incredibly well, making his delightfully disturbing entrance one of the best in New Japan at the moment. In terms of in-ring prowess, while he is still a bit slow and lumbering, he strikes with impact and authority. O-Khan is a future great."

[4.0] "Oka's cast in the same mold as Kawato, a highly impressive Young Lion to which he added an excellent pedigree in full-contact sports. I had very high hopes for him. Then just like Kawato he was sent abroad for way too long, seemingly forgotten and ruined. The Great O-Kharn? Somebody at NJPW must have found the idea incredibly funny but the poor guy has been basically a joke since donning that stupid gimmick. Edit: ah, dropping the R did all the difference! Well, actually he's exactly the same old Great O-Kharn and despite being aligned with Will Ospreay's brand new stable he sticks out in the same way as Master Wato. Has NJPW hired some WWE Creative rejects by any chance?"

[5.0] "Didn't really impress as a Young Lion, didn't look great the two times I checked on him during his excursion, and now he's back and still pretty mediocre."
