They were just angry, nasty big men on the show. They worked very stiffly, and sold in very creative ways. They were a legit threat. I loved the fake cast or arm brace (whatever) that he wore for most of his career that I recall, that he alleged was an injury. It was the longest injury in the history of man. But he sold hiding an object in it in a comedic and devious way. You watched his matches hoping he would lose and wondering when the fake cast was going to come into play. lol. Duke was a staple on the show, and always performed his job at a very high level. I see the previous comment from his daughter below, and would say that Ma'am, your Dad was a fantastic entertainer. I also met Duke, with my grand dad who knew a lot of the wrestlers back stage as about a 9 year old, some time in the early 80s and he was kind, soft spoken, personable, and a great guy. He lived in an era where the heels were not allowed to just stop being heels when not working, and although he played the role to perfection, my general feeling is he was a wonderful, and very hard working guy."
"I would like to clarify a few items in the description of Duke Myers. First he was NOT born in Canada. He was born in Lake Oswego Oregon. Second his cause of death was not natürlicher Tod , it was internal bleeding. His marital partners name was not Duchess Myers, although he had not remarried her he was living with his first wife whose name is Jane Myers. His weight was not 277 lbs. He weighed over 350 at the time of his death. I know these facts because I am his daughter, I want my father to be remembered for his work but not with lies..."
