[4.0] "Dangerous Dan the Left Hand Man, one of the legitimately toughest dudes of his time but he couldn't make it translate in the ring. Jim Cornette once described him as a big guy who didn't look big, and just made the bigger guys look smaller when he was next to them. He just kinda plodded around the ring and didn't do much, like Sid Vicious but with a worse physique and far less aura and charisma. Waylon Mercy was an interesting character but it was just too late into his career. Perhaps if he had started the character earlier in his career it could've led to something special, but this of course is a paradox since the Mercy character was a one-to-one ripoff of a character from a movie made in 1991. Maybe he could've aped Robert Mitchum instead. That would've been something. Anyway... yep, Danny Spivey. He definitely was a wrestler. Wouldn't wanna fuck with him out on the street but in the ring there's just nothing else to really say."

[7.0] "Dan Spivey was a great worker. In the ring he could put on a good match but also put on some below quality matches. Waylon Mercy is one of the biggest what ifs in wrestling and can be seen as it helped inspire the original Bray Wyatt character."

[4.0] "Mediocre in the ring. Spivey was tall, but lanky and no real muscle mass and he wasn't very good in the ring. Multiple injuries ended his career shortly after he was gaining traction in a gimmick that was actually interesting, Waylon Mercy. So years of mediocrity, then in his last year he finally started getting over with people, and he had to retire because of injuries."

[5.0] "Starship Eagle; phew... rough, really tough to watch. In the WWF as "Barry Windham's replacement quickly turned enhancement talent" was okayish but he was still merely learning. Varsity Club was ill fitting. Skyscrapers? Oh HELL YES! this was his peak and I can really get behind this stuff, always could and always will. Waylon Mercy had great vignettes but only wrestled a small handful of dull and forgettable matches. 4.5 rounded up. It's all about The Skyscrapers."

[4.0] "Decent enough worker at times. Though that was very inconsistent through most of his career. The Skyscrapers were an interesting team, which helps in this department. Interesting does not always equate to a great team though. Waylon Mercy was a good character, and seemed to have found his niche with it. But it was much too late by that point. Still would have been nice to have seen a bigger feud come out of it."

[8.0] "An interesting powerhouse wrestler who started his career in his early 30s and had moderate success for about 11 years. He had some great matches in Japan (particularly against the '90s All Japan main event scene). For a big guy back then, he had quite a good move set, and he performed them effectively, from thunderfire powerbombs, sheerdrop brainbusters, DDTs and other basic but well executed moves. His run as Waylon Mercy was short, but memorable, and it could have developed into something much more. But when his injuries snowballed and caught up, it became time to go. Overall, a good wrestler."
