[8.0] "It is rare to see a wrestler of Bob Orton Jr.'s proportions, aside from Terry Funk and Stan Hansen; a very technical texan that can pretty much take you down and give you a harsh time on the mat for a few minutes. I've seen him wrestling in AJPW, NJPW and the WWF, and in each company he showcased something good. He wrestled Jumbo Tsuruta in a stellar match in 1976, he had that WWF run with Piper and Orndorff as the Ace with the cast and the constant interferences on their matches, and later in NJPW (no I won't mention the absurd Gaspar Pirates gimmick), he was pals with Dick Murdoch and used to hit his opponents with that smooth Military Press (SOMETIMES ONE HANDED) backbreaker, one we also once saw Brock Lesnar hit Matt Hardy with. He's no Tanahashi, but he's got my 8!"

[7.0] "Bob Orton may not have been the flashiest wrestling, but he was actually very talented in the ring. His mic skills were good as well but not as Piper. Had a good luck and his forever broken arm and cast made him more memorable. Biggest controversy was not telling Undertaker about him having hepatitis before being in a bloody match with him"

[9.0] "May never get his just due. One of the smoothest ring mechanics ever & among the most underrated and underappreciated architects of the squared circle. Kept in great shape; was never overly bulky and was always well conditioned. Elevated the sport/business as a whole by way of top notch work rate. Could work magic with anyone because he was damn near limitless. Literally co-created RANDY FREAKIN ORTON. 9.25 rounded down - I still need to watch his pre 80's material. EDIT- I wrote that Aug-08-22 and I must note some additional things: Orton took the superplex to prominence, Scott Irwin brought it to the US but Orton kept the move alive. Bob Orton Jr also invented the Vader bomb (the front facing turnbuckle assisted splash), There's a wealth to appreciate if you look deeper."

[8.0] "An excellent midcard worker and Ring General who was severely underrated and mostly just remembered for being Roddy Piper's right hand man during his legendary mid 1980's Heel run, and for his forearm cast."

"Bob Orton was my hero growing up. And still is. Seen him live many times and even on his old days he can do the job and keep it interested. Very underated individual"

[8.0] "One of the best in ring technicians to ever step foot inside of the squared circle. Bob made everything he did look so smooth and so effortless, similar to Randy today. He was also a very versatile worker who done his part in getting a good match out of anyone he stepped in the ring with. I also feel like him being such an effortless in ring worker makes him underrated for his era. Because his era was mostly about larger than life gimmicks, big personalities, etc, and Bob didn't need that. He was a guy you could put with guys who could talk, who were over the top, etc, and he would still get noticed because he looked like a million dollars, could work, and do his role in the act without all that. Which is why in his WWF run, he was put with the guys he was put with -- Piper's Bodyguard, Adrian Adonis and Jimmy Hart's body guard, the technician and the tank with muraco w/ fuji in the corner, etc.. Great tag team wrestler as well, loved him and dick slater in the NWA."

[8.0] "I don't understand the low rating as i thought he was bloody brilliant, his early years he was a tremendous worker and was athletic as hell and then after he went to the E he became a awesome heel with Piper and became more of a brawler and technician and as a heel was obviously always cheating with his "broken" forearm and the never ending cast. Great character for me"

[5.0] "5 is fair... theres not a lot to complain about his technical ability to do an adequate match in his era... especially before 1982 but he was a by the book... through the motions guy. if he wasnt second generation I doubt he would have wanted to be a wrestler. it certainly came across like he was working a 9-5 accounting job I hear the oldtimers speak... no one has any fun bob orton jr stories. he took part in that deep south wrestling war where they tried to kill the Kentucky area. his cast gimmick with roddy piper actually made piper seem boring which is almost impossible. all that said... he kept getting work and was pushed as an upper mid card wherever he went because he was adequate"

[5.0] "I give him a fair rating. He was not that exciting to watch. His early years were excellent and could maneuver his opponents very well. When he went to WWF that all changed. He really only used the forearm smash to his opponents heads. Pulled off some main event matches against Bob Backlund and Hulk Hogan. Best remembered being with Roddy Piper. I am surprised that he is still wrestling at 68."

[8.0] "Don't understand the low rating people have been giving him. Orton was a terrific all-around wrestler who could pull a good match out of anybody, and served as a great manager for his son Randy. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to stand-out all that much in an era with such amazing, captivating characters and wrestlers. Bob was great, but he wasn't timeless."
