Emi Sakura vs. Mei Suruga

The 2nd half of this match in particular was absolutely next level in terms of intensity and urgency (the absolute speeeeeed of the final sequences was unbelievable given how crisp everything was! ), but I also loved how the 1st half set up the student / master dynamic perfectly and showcased how these two knew each other so well. They weaved in the history of Emi's mentorship of Mei masterfully! It beautifully ramped up to an intense and personal fight, while still keeping some of the lighthearted and silly nature that makes Gatoh Move + Choco Pro unique. An awesome match, with a hot crowd, and a statement booking choice - For the Future indeed! One of my favourite matches of the year! Let's fucking go Mei!"

[7.0] "Some decent moves and strikes throughout but still nothing too incredible for nowadays' Joshi quality average. Length wasn't big also so I don't think they are to blame at all, it's just anice main-event that didn't overstay its welcome at all. ***1/2"

[8.0] "Took a wee while to get into this match as it was a bit slow and focused more on character work but when it picked up it didn't look back. Both women knocked lumps out of each other and had so much urgency and intensity between them. Also as the commentator stated I had never seen a double stomp on the turnbuckle itself before and it looked equally as devastating as it did sketchy. Came for Emi Sakura, she's definitely one of the most underutilized women on AEW's roster and stayed for Mei Suruga who I'm looking forward to seeing more of"

[8.0] "This was a really good, enjoyable match. Mei has never failed to impress whenever I've seen her and Emi, even in the twilight of her career, is still a very good worker. The action was back and forth and the crowd were in to everything. Mei go the win and fulfilled her dream in a heartwarming moment. I also enjoyed Akki on commentary, he was very enthusiastic and I especially his line about Emi "not being able to bend for the last 15 years" while Mei was twisting her leg. ***3/4"

[8.0] "This had silly fun, awesome moves, and pseudo mother-daughter drama. Emi doing those rolling surfboard stretches and mimicking Mei and getting the whole crowd doing the "she will chop you" chant shows how underutilized she is in AEW and what you can do when you let her loose. And who better to be let loose with than Japan's greatest goblin and Emi's prize student? Mei looked amazing here, and getting this singles title was a nice and well-deserved moment. Not an all-timer or anything, but very very good in almost every respect, from character to comedy to story."

[8.0] "A special and wonderful moment for Mei. The ongoing story between Mei and Emi with all the layers involved is wonderful and to see this happen on their Korakuen Hall show is just perfect. A worthy main event to a wonderfully fun show."

[8.0] "Great to see Mei finally crowned as the top of Chocopro. I think it was good Emi decided to do this now because she seemed a little slow in this match. Still one of the all time greats though."
