529.06.2024ParkwayDriver8.0The crowd was at their peak for this match being a very pro Fatu crowd in his hometown. A violent match that had reason to be with the way it was built up with their rivalry over the last couple months. After Zilla went through a glass pane in the corner to the floor, JWM began inflicting a lot of punishment on him with the crowd getting more behind Zilla. Zilla got a comeback going following a uranage through a glass pane. Big splash through a door bridge on the floor which connected this time (after Zilla missed it in their first match together on 5/3.) Zilla did want a flaming Samoan Spike but unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps) he could not get his thumb lit on fire so a normal Samoan Spike got him the win over this years TOS winner. An improvement on their first singles match in what I would call Zillas best match to this point that was raised by a great atmosphere with his hometown crowd behind him. 7.5-8
629.06.2024thrstynmsrbl7.0I didn't love this match as much as I thought it would. From when it got announced, I was really looking forward to seeing Zilla in a deathmatch for the first time, and JWM is the perfect opponent to have a first deathmatch against. This match had a lot of Roman Reigns-esque, long periods of selling while Murdoch got heat from the Houston crowd (who, by the way, added a LOT to this match by being hyped up for Zilla from the start) - I'm sure the pacing worked a lot better in the building but watching this from home, it felt like five minutes could've been trimmed off the match. Having said that, I did appreciate how much of this match was Zilla slowly building a tolerance to deathmatch weapons, initially being taken out for minutes at a time from glass and light-tube shots but eventually hulking up after being hit with a bundle. I felt the finish suffered a little bit from how long the dive from the apron took to set up, and the slight anti-climax from the botched flaming Samoan spike, but overall this met my expectations for how violent and bloody it was going to be and a great deathmatch debut for Zilla Fatu
729.06.2024jjcharg777.0was a bit choppy but it was also Zillas 1st death match. im more forgiving on it. had some really dope moments and I think JWM was the perfect person to help lead him through. his head first dive through the glass was just insane lol im gonna chalk it up to zilla selling really good as I thought zilla was dying through out the match. there could have been moments where he needed a breather and its understandable as like I said, its his 1st death match. he hit that uranagi clean on JWM too. this also made me want to go back and watch JWMs 1st ever death match. it was against Simon Sezz. the difference between now and then is crazy. it also helps reinforce my assumption that JWM took care of Zilla in the match, well at least alot better than Sezz did him in his first match lol also shows how far JWM as come. so overall nothing to write home about but interesting for zillas adapting to the deathmatch with a legend. I also encourage anyone who thinks this match with zilla was concerning to watch JWM 1st death match with Simon Sezz, now that was fucking concerning
