[8.0] "What a moment, and what a match to get us to that moment. Mark had to fight tooth and nail and endure significant blood loss to earn the World Title. I couldn't help but think of Jay vs Joe from "At Our Best", the very first Mania weekend ROH show where Jay bled so much it clotted. While this was long, it was so much better paced than any other match on the show, and the emotional weight helped as well. I do think the match maybe overstated its welcome by a few minutes, but am I really going to be overly nitpicky in this case? I am not. I'm still not happy Mark lost to Samoa Joe at last year's Supercard, so I'll just say I'm glad he won this match and that they didn't screw up again."

Sure the build-up could've been much better if the booker treated the weekly show as an actual weekly wrestling broadcast and not AEW Dark: Elevation 3.0 but I digress. Eddie and Mark beat each other half to death for the love of the game. It was the power and fighting spirit of Briscoe that he overcame the mighty king. With blood sweat and tears he earned the big gold baby. Long live Ring of Honor. ****1/4"

[8.0] "[4.0*] Best match of the night in my opinion in a very emotional bout. We got the old brawler Eddie Kingston instead of his recent AJPW lover version, and it was necessary. Mark was bleeding a lot and it created a very cool visual. The match had some nice spots and nearfalls, and Mark rightfully won with the Jay Driller 11 years after Jay Briscoe won the ROH World Championship against Kevin Steen. The story writes itself."

[8.0] "This was a great match. Mark Briscoe's journey to the ROH title started pretty much when Jay Briscoe tragically passed away in a car accident. It wasn't how anyone wanted that journey to start but by mid 2023, Mark was already going to wrestle for the ROH title. He was injured so he couldn't make it to his title match at Death Before Dishonor in 2023, but as fate would have it Supercard of Honor 2024 happens to the very day that Jay won the ROH championship for the first time 11 years prior. So now the story was can Mark Briscoe win the championship that his brother once held. Eddie Kingston wasn't about to let that happen, especially after losing the AEW Continental Championship to Kazuchika Okada about 2 weeks prior. Kingston had his own Cinderalla story to win the ROH world title, so it was interesting that it was him who would defend the title against Mark. This was a fight, with some chops here and there. Mark bled in the match, which really helped sell what he was going through to win the gold. For the finish, Mark hit an old move of his called the Cutthroat Driver, then finished Kingston off with the Jay Driller in honor of his brother. This was such a heartwarming moment, with the Briscoe family celebrating with Mark and Eddie Kingston giving him love and respect in the post match. ****1/4"

Mark doing his entrance to the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd was fantastic, very cool to watch. The match was about fighting spirit, they were trying the whole time to want more than the other guy, and at the end Mark Briscoe wanted more, and won the title - {***3/4}"

[9.0] "Now this is Ring of Honor. These guys respect the hell out of each other but will fight tooth and nail for the title that represents this company, and Mark was just willing to bleed more and dig deeper because this was a family affair to him. A lot of brawling, some great teases (even that count out almost got me), and some effective cutoffs. Not the most classic ROH main event you've ever seen, but I think this is why the TK era of ROH hasn't fully lost that spark that connects it to the glory days. I can't think of a better way to have Eddie go out on his back with this title than to one of the only times Mark has actually pulled off the Jay Driller since Jay's passing. Now Both Briscoe brothers have held the top title in Ring of Honor, and that's something beautiful I think. ****1/4"

[7.0] "A big moment that deserved a better performance. Don't get me wrong, Mark Briscoe was great in this match, bringing his trademark intensity and athleticism along with a nasty-looking crimson mask. Kingston was doing what he thought was best to make this a good match, and some of it was good. (In particular, he was very good in the suplex exchange and his staggering bridge from that to the next spot looked very credible.) But parodying the Strong Style just looks awful, even when Kingston is rising to a big occasion. I think he avoided the dreaded "fake" label here, but his kicks were bad and a lot of his strikes only made it to "good enough" - he limited the match but didn't ruin it. Worth it for the occasion if nothing else, and if you're really into Kingston his flaws may not bother you."

[7.0] "This match felt very similar to Cody and Roman's match at WrestleMania XL for me. The moment itself was great, but the match left more to be desired in my opinion because it was trying too hard to be "epic." Either way, the match was still good, but the moment itself of Mark Briscoe becoming RoH World Champion was much bigger."

[9.0] "This match was Amazing. Here are my favorite parts of the match. They started off with some exceptional Mat work. Mark had some really good strikes early no with his Redneck King Fu. Great spicy drop kick to Kingston and then a great Tope Cannonball. Mark getting Chokeslammed on the chair was brutal. Kingston slamming Mark's head off the announcer table several times leading to him being busted open was very brutal. The chop exchange these guys did was among the most brutal I've seen. The image of Mark doing the chop exchange with Kingston while busted open is so beast. Mark's Brainbuster on Kingston was great. The blockbuster was sick as well. Kingston and Mark trading Tbones and Uranages back and forth and then taking each other out with a Clothesline was a great sequence. Kingston hitting Mark with a Tbone off the apron to the floor was insane. Another chop off that was excellent. Kingston hitting Mark with a Dragon Suplex and then the spinning backfist for a nearfall got me. Cutthroat driver to Kingston for a nearfall was great. Briscoe won with a Jay Driller."

The crowd did not seem to care other than to get to the inevitable celebration and I can't exactly blame them either with how this went. Other than the Jay Driller this felt like the most generic tropes of epic matches used, which is something that's been plaguing a lot of Eddie Kingston matches for awhile now."

[8.0] ""He is always with you, Mark, and he's here tonight." --Ian Riccaboni As someone who has been really exhausted by the repetitive nature of Eddie Kingston's recent in-ring work, my expectations were exceeded here. Probably the best match Mark has had since Jay passed. I was a big fan of Mark's cut-throat driver so it would have been really exciting to see him bring it back in a critical moment in this match after having not used it for many years but they kind of fumbled the execution and it ended up looking more like a Samoan drop. Still, a strong finish to an exciting and emotional match."

[10.0] "ROH may be a shell of a shell at this point, but when they put on a PPV there are always some gems to find, and this Supercard of Honor was no exception. The main event was a gritty, bloody fight between Kingston and Mark Briscoe, naturally with the shadow of the dearly departed Jay watching over the match. I greatly appreciated the pure violence of this, Kingston may regard Mark as a friend but when it comes to a fight Kingston will hold nothing back, viciously bloodying Mark early in the match. Kingston's arms were so bloodslicked at one point it looked like he'd been working in a butcher shop, that's my kind of vibe for a match. Great strikes, great throws, great bumps, some really good selling from Kingston in particular as always, and always that feeling of a tough fight full of pride. My only slight critique is at 24 minutes it felt just a tad long, could have trimmed a bit, but I appreciate they want to show just how badly you have to beat down Kingston to take a title from him. Great fun here."

Great contest which felt like a classic ROH main event, especially with Briscoe pulling out some old tricks like the Cutthroat Driver. Eddie continues his downward spiral which is a thread sure to be picked up in AEW, and hell be clinging to that NJPW Strong title now. Meanwhile, Briscoe will presumably be leading the ROH brand going forward with a renewed singles focus, although he still has his on-going feud with the House of Black to contend with. Deserving of the spotlight, itll be fun to see where he goes from here."

[5.0] "A match that had to struggle to find meaning between the competitors, obviously not because of the real-life circumstances but of the booking ones. Another problem with this is so far Tony Khan has used the Ring of Honor world title to crown people who haven't held world titles before, and who he clearly doesn't want to give a real world title to. And then you look at how Mark has been used under Khan, mostly as a jobber, and this just was a complete failure of booking to make a match that should have been great just seem tepid instead. They worked hard but the crowd seemed more polite than engaged."

Being there live, Mark Briscoe really conveyed an ambient sort of urgency throughout the entirety of the match. This meant that his win felt earned and cathartic when it finally arrived."

[8.0] "One of the classic matches that pays tribute to the old school ROH. A very serious and competitive spirit of a match between two passionate wrestlers for a shot of the world title. Knowing their history and mutual respect, I thought that this match will be not a grungy and competitive. Kingston's emotions in the match ran wild the moment he slammed Briscoe's head on the announce table multiple times until the point he is starting to bleed. Both men fighting back and forth to the point they are trying to beat the piss of each other. Briscoe paying homage to Mick Foley with a Bang-bang gesture and the running elbow from the apron was very touching to see. I was starting to worry on how much blood did Briscoe lost here. Upon scoring the win against Kingston, I cannot imagine how happy I was for Briscoe on finally winning the big one. What a post-match moment for Briscoe as his peers and his family rushed into the ring to celebrate his victory. ****1/4"

Ultimately they should've found someone else for Mark to take the belt off of for this because it's hard to buy Eddie and him at odds like this given their recent stories and all that. Samoa Joe would've been ideal probably but obviously that wasn't in the cards."

[8.0] "My match of the night overall. On paper, there was no reason not to expect these two to deliver in the ring together in spite of the fact that they were served an underwhelming build up to the match. There were a number of mirrors to Jays first title win vs. Steen eleven years ago including Mark donning a pretty bloody crimson mask, something Jay would often do when challenging for the ROH title in the past. Both took some rough falls and spills. Kingston also leaned more into villainous territory, a fun parallel when thinking of when Eddie won the CHIKARA grand championship in the same city and how Quackenbush was to him. Mark has long deserved a singles title win within ROH and this was a good culmination of that finally coming to fruition. Nothing against the two talents but it is a shame that this match felt so shoehorned into the show rather than earnestly built up as this was the perfect time and place for Mark to win but a severe lack of build made it feel not as meaningful as it could have or should have been."

Prince Osborne wrote on 07.04.2024:
[10.0] "Heading into this match, I thought it would be another day for Eddie since Briscoe was robbed in his last championship duel against Joe. But the way Mark's story was tied with his late, great brother's story dating eleven years back was a nice touch. The match felt old-school, reminding me of the DVD days of Ring of Honor - gritty, uncanny, and rooted. It wasn't smooth and flashy - it was a legit fight to the top! The finishing stretch proved that, being a natural arrival to the start of something special. Eddie had an amazing run as the champion, but it was heavily due for Briscoe to clinch a piece of gold before hanging up the boots. 5 out of 5 stars!"

[9.0] "This was as good as you'd expect with two athletes of the caliber of Eddie Kingston and Mark Briscoe. It was a struggle, a fight, a wild brawl with both men holding nothing back. Briscoe got put through a chair with a chokeslam in the early goings and even got busted open but kept fighting through. The action was intense and emotional and both men had great chemistry and there were several nice exchanges and sequences. The exploder suplex of the apron was probably my favorite moment of the match. The closing stretch probably lacked of something but the pay-off of seeing Mark finally win the World title is worth it. In the same city (the city of brotherly love) where his great late brother won his first World title, Mark now finally reaches for the sky and wins the World title on his own. Eddie played a good heel and Mark is easily one of the most likeable babyfaces in wrestling right now and I can't wait to see what he does as ROH champion. 9/10 - 4.5*/5*"

[8.0] "This was pretty much about as good as I was expecting. A bloody, gritty fight between Eddie who wants to continue upholding the legacy of the title that some of his idols have held and Mark who wants to win the same title that his late brother won for the first time 11 years ago on the same day. The crowd were pretty tired here as the show had gone on for more than 4 hours by the time this match started but the action was so good and the emotion was so palpable that it didn't really matter. Mark takes some great bumps here as he's known to do and Eddie put in a great heel performance but this is all about the ending. Mark winning the ROH title for the first time 11 years after Jay did, with Jay's own move and being showered in streamers like the ROH of old. A really beautiful moment and the match that preceded it was brilliant. MOTN for sure, and one of the most feel good endings we're likely to see all year. ****1/4"

[8.0] "Eddie Kingston dared to portray the heel under these circumstances. At least in the building stages of the match. This was hard-hitting and gritty, with a real old-school indie vibe. Despite the emotional weight of Jay Briscoe's passing and Mark's fight to win the belt in his honor, they didn't overplay the emotional angle which I think kept it feeling authentic."
Soo-Play wrote on 06.04.2024:

They did good work as expected but I guess the face/face dynamic did ultimately end up hurting this one a bit, even if Eddie played heel in the match. No one wants to boo Eddie really, and they also haven't built Mark up as a legit contender at all so it's really just riding on the Jay Briscoe history and that's kind of a cynical approach for the promotion to take."

Incredibly emotional second half following a really strange but still welcome opening half with Kingston playing a dominant champion which felt very refreshing for him. Mark played the battered babyface perfectly, the crowd was all over the final stretch, and above all else, the result was the right one. Almost brings a tear to my eye the morning after."

It's a shame because it could've been huge and not simply a pat on the back type moment that it came off as here. Eddie and Mark had about as good of a match as you could have under the weird circumstances but they were letdown by the story or lack thereof."

Briscoe is such an easy guy to rally behind and Eddie leaned in to the more "heelish" side of his character perfectly to get the crowd behind Mark (though there was still plenty of support for Eddie). The chops were brutal, the strikes held so much weight, and ending with the Jay Driller was just perfect. This earned its spot as the ME, and I would highly recommend it."

The crowd seemed to be trying to be into it for most of the match without being that into it, like the long evening might have worn them down, and the finish... I dunno, I hate slow 'first move. kickout. second move. pin.' endings. They had the perfect city, they had the perfect date, and the moment didn't seem anywhere near as immense as it should have. Even with everyone coming out after the match."

It's hard to make me emotional, but I'd be lying if I said the post match celebration didn't make me tear up.
