Also the crowd was hot for it the whole way through"

What's the point of a ladder match with nothing up for grabs? I hated the spots with Kane and Braun, it literally felt like watching a match in slow motion. (*1/2)"

The visual of Kurt making a Shield entrance with a massive grin on his face was pretty cool, but once the bell rang? Yeah, it was just an average match, honestly."

Angle's return at the end of the match was satisfactory and I remember some good spots from Rollins and Ambrose. On the other hand, some parts where Team Miz dominated were really slow and I almost fell asleep. Overall it can be enjoyable, if you turn off the brain and watch this as just an ignorant brawl, but it has its flaws"

[7.0] "Another very long main event for a WWE PPV in 2017 that wasn't as long as the HIAC match between Owens and McMahon but was pretty close in terms of length, again I don't think it needed to be that long because the match would have been much more enjoyable if it had been shortened to have something more digestible to watch. Here you really have to take time and really want to see this match again to decide to watch it, I'd never seen it before so I forced myself to and frankly I quite enjoyed it. I didn't expect anything from it because of the negative feedback I've been reading about this main event for almost five years now so I had no expectations, and I have to admit that they managed to surprise me with some fun booking and solid action. Of course the team selection was strange, the three-on-five handicap match situation was strange as well and even more so when Ambrose & Rollins were left alone but that's the unique aspect I liked. It's not something you'll see every year, it was a bold decision on the company's part to book this and this was far from bad. Braun was a damn fucking star, we saw a lot of cool spots, I enjoyed the tension between Kane & Braun as well as Angle's return towards the end. There are obviously flaws like the first pin only popping up after thirty minutes as well as a couple of floating moments like that long heat on Seth & Dean in the middle of the match but overall I had a good time."

It just seems ridiculous in the beginning when 3 men can isolate one or two men while the other three or four are where? Add botched table spots to the mix and you have a potential disaster on your hands. Luckily not every big spot was botched, and some of them were fun, but it didn't make up for the ridiculousness, the peak of which was the garbage truck spot, which was the culmination of silly pettiness breaking the Miz's team apart to the point of smashing one of their own teammates in a trash compactor. SMH. WTF. This is one of those matches that makes you wonder what Meltzer was smoking when he rated it. **3/4"

Paul Allain wrote on 31.12.2018:
[3.0] "Too much is worse than not enough. From the get-go, the match was overbooked with a 5 vs 3 format that seemd very arbitrary. Then, the novelty of The Shield reuniting got taken away by Roman's medical emergency, but replaced by the return to the ring of Kurt Angle, adding another element of overbooking, however cool it was. The match was very chaotic, but added yet another element of overbooking by having Kane and Strowman alternatively cooperating and fighting, leading to his entire team inexplicably betraying him and throwing him in a trash truck, a very illogical move. The match continued to devolve into nonsense, with Kurt Angle tendencies taking precedence after he came back from an injury carry-out, yet another overbooked moment, and finished the match. This match feels so artificial in many places, throwing obviously narrative tropes galore to force a moment, but coming more desperate than anything. Nice effort from everyone for sure, but this was way too much and oversatured me."

[7.0] "This match was really bizarre and overbooked. Not only was the stipulation very unusual, but due to unforseen circumstances, the focus of the contest shifted from The Shield reunion to Kurt Angle's unpredictable return. Plus Kurt in a Shield getup has to be seen to be believed. The Shield takes control early and manages to overcome the numbers game using weapons and two very impressive ladder dives. The heels eventually regain control, by taking out Kurt and beating the shit out of Seth and Dean for a long time. Things get more complicated when a garbage truck gets added to the equation, as comebacks, infighting, returns and generally chaotic (and sometimes sloppy) wrestling ensues. After about 35 minutes we get a clean finish to this messy but ultimately entertaining match. ***1/2"

There were high spots, beatdowns that went on forever, rest times that went on for waaaay too long, 'injuries' and returning from such (something Ive noticed happens too often now), and even murder by crushing. This had a lot of great nonsense in it and I thought Kurt looked good enough (certainly better then Bret when he had his return 'match'). It did go on for a little too long. As an actual match its probably like a ** 1/2, but it entertained me enough for me to give it a *** 1/4"

[2.0] "Stipulation: It was the main event of a PPV called TLC which didn`t have any other tables, ladders or chair matches on the card. A TLC match would have been nice but instead a No DQ match was called by the (German) announcers TLC match. Storytelling:The return of the real American Hero was pushed. Everybody knew that he has to win it. He was injured early in the match in order to get the obvious return later in the match. Atmosphere: However, the time in between was just to long for my taste and the taste of the audience who demanded to have other wrestlers on screen during their chants. Psychology: The heel team were long time in control without any pin attempt. They weren`t also really interested in winning the match since their leader (The Miz) has ordered a garbage truck in order to dispose of the their opponent. If this would have been successful, the heel team wouldn`t have won. Was the plan to go to the public kip in order to make a final pin attempt? Performance: Sloppy... Outcomes: The main monster has shown weaknesses and looks less intimidating. 2 1/2 people were able to bury 5 other wrestlers. The IC champ was presented as weak which didn`t do the title any favour. The most protected guy is somebody who will only compete every now and then (Angle) Multiple wrestlers were presented as they are unable to carry a match since the match fell completely apart. 1 or 2 matches between the members of the heel times could come out of it."

Good Feel Finish inklusive. Sei’s drum. (***½)"

It was really the the type of entertainment, that reminded me a bit of the old Attitude-era multi man matches, when anything could happen during a match. Still of course the violence was very family friendly and softcore here. Angles comeback, the creative chair spot with Kane/Strowman and the garbage truck taking out Strowman were pieces of this wild storyline match. All of those put a smile on my face. Still the match had maybe too many participants in it. Ambrose and Rollins could have really showcased something new with the TLC gimmick as a team, if it wasn´t for this odd ball booking. It was really a mix of different stuff, kinda hard to rate as a match. I really expected even some high risk stuff from modern WWE instead of the dull table spots, but i dont know. Still the highlight of the night for me after quite boring undercard. With some polishing it could have been more compelling, but it worked as the big production Kurt Angles "feel good" main event."

Angle doch gewaltig an Rost angesetzt. (3 1/4*)"

Personally I spent most of it worried Kurt was gonna hurt himself because we all know he's not in the best shape in 2017 and probably shouldn't be doing even the gentlest of table spots. But in the end, it was fun wrestling nonsense, and on a personal level absurdity is what got me into this pastime in the first place. In the ring, ringside, the stage, even a garbage truck. It had spots that made me say "holy shit" spots that made me laugh, and spots that were just awesome. If you want to enjoy this match you have to pretend logic doesn't exist because this was very illogical. Why was there a garbage truck? Why did Kane attack Strowman therefore weakening his chances of winning? Why did Team Miz kill Braun Strowman by throwing him into the garbage truck? Why did WWE kill Braun Strowman like 4 times this year? Overall, if you can get passed the dumbness of some of the moments and booking, this is a really fun match, ****."

[6.0] "This was an extremely messy match, even disregarding Roman's removal. Angle was incredibly awkward. He took very bad bumps and looked lost the whole time. His individual spots were still cool from a nostalgia sense, but apart from them he looked totally out of place. My major issue was with the "injuries", which were written totally according to convenience. Some times wrestlers would spend what feels like 10 minutes away from the action selling an injury, then jump right back in when the script demanded it. This took a lot of excitement out from since it was then obvious that anything significant could easily be altered by someone rushing into the frame out of nowhere. This happened constantly throughout the match and undervalued everything since such interferences were essentially deus ex machina. This is always the case with WWE's multi-man matches, sadly. The fact that this was a multi-man match also meant there were lots of awkward brawling moments where no-one knew who to target, leading to lots of weak and confusing attacks. Finally, the match was just overbooked to hell. The dual announce table spot, Angle's injury and removal, Strowman's (cartoonish) betrayal, the garbage truck, Kane's chair pile on Strowman, Angle's return, etc. These various booked spots instead felt as if included just to fit a "big match" checklist rather than being individually important. An alright match from a 'car-crash' standpoint, but badly written with only second-rate work. ***"

[7.0] "Just a wild clusterfuck of a match. This match would've been so much better if it had just been like 10-15 minutes shorter. The match pacing relied solely on Kurt as this was his return match, and thus affected the heat once he was taken out. Then we get this nonsensical fighting between Kane and Braun which leads to an actual live murder. Rollins and Seth bumped all over the place as usual. Angle makes his triumphant return and then wrecks the place then finally pins Miz for the win. This wasn't a good match by any means, nor was it a terrible match either, it was just a crazy and overbooked roller coaster trainwreck that was nothing harmful. I imagine the match as if you took a bunch of different colored gallons of paint and then threw them all against a blank canvas. There is no clear picture, some of the paint mixtures look cool, and some don't, but it is interesting to look at if you're bored for a few minutes, ***3/4."

I love Kane getting a spotlight and I'm really excited to see a program between him and Braun, because while it's not as useful as working Taker, its good for Braun to work big men like Kane now while he's younger so he can learn. Kurt looked great here and never tried to overshadow the young guys (not that I expected him to). I thought the finish was great and put the babyfaces over while still making it feel like they were underdogs and worked for their victory. Ambrose & Rollins were on fire from start to finish - super strong performances by them, The Miz played his role to absolute perfection & the rest of the guys did their parts very well too. I liked all the twists & turns - Angle getting out of the match after getting destroyed by Braun was great & his eventual comeback with his own music was a goosebumps worthy moment - him just throwing all the bad guys around w/ his signature Suplexes & Angle Slams ruled.

Booking is terrible, Kane is terrible, Braun is terrible, Angle is terrible, Shield is terrible. The company once again showed its disregard for the fans. A disgusting match (-*****)"

[6.0] "Good lord, what WAS this? ! It was like an overbooked Attitude Era car crash recreated in WWE 2K18 with modern wrestlers. The GM of Raw being inserted into the match was one of the LEAST ridiculous things about it. The first 10 minutes or so were also easily the best part of the match because they kind of made sense and were full of fun brawling and great spots. After that, though... I have nothing but questions. Why are Rollins and Ambrose making big babyface comebacks after being beaten down 5 on 2 for 5 minutes? Why didn't Team Miz go for pinfalls or finishers at all while beating them down 5 on 2 for 5 minutes? Why was The Miz trying to put Rollins and Ambrose intoa trash truck before they won the match? Why does Kane try to murder Strowman simply because he shoved him earlier? Why did Team Miz put their own teammate into the trash truck that they were saving for their opponents? JUST... WHY? ! WHY DID ANY OF THIS HAPPEN? ! If you enjoy logical storytelling, avoid this match like your life depends on it. If you like your wrestling dumb, loud, violent, and lacking in any kind of emotional connection, watch this RIGHT NOW. This was the Citizen Kane of stupid bullshit that makes no sense. I enjoyed watching it as it happened, but I have no desire to ever watch it again."
