[8.0] "This was a great match, and so far the only match these two have had together. WCPW was only around for a few years, but they gave us a few really cool things before being forced to shut down and the Pro Wrestling World Cup World Cup pretty much tops the list. It gave us some matches that we had never seen before or haven't seen again since it happened. Jay Lethal was around a lot for the early part of WCPW's existance, even defending the ROH title on their first major show. Zack Sabre Jr was on the rise and thanks to the fact that he was from the UK, him wrestling in WCPW was easy for him to do. This was a very technical match, where they constantly countered each other's moves. Jay Lethal had a bad arm, and it wasn't long until Sabre Jr took advantage and attacked it. Lethal gave him a receipt late into the match when he got Sabre Jr in the Figure Four. But in the end, Zack Sabre Jr took advantage of an opening and put Lethal in a submission hold that he couldn't escape from. ****1/4"

[8.0] "This match was absolutely awesome, technically, ZSJ and Lethal are just two masters. I loved the submissions here, this was very impressive, ZSJ countered an Ellbow Drop with an Armbar and it was incredible. I just loved it and I even wished this match could be longer. ****1/4"

[8.0] "This is what happened when two great wrestlers met in the same ring. They kickoff the match with Lethal trying to beat Sabre in his own game. But Sabre is one of the best in the world in mat wrestling so Lethal had to change his strategy. Lethal started with his explosive offense and Sabre answered with the arm work which continued to the finish. There was schizophrenic situation when people was on the Sabre's side so when Lethal hit his comeback it was little bit weird. Selling wasn't strong part of this match. Mostly from ZSJ because that brutal Cutter or that Superkick in the end had absolutely no impact on him. Lethal wasn't better in his comebacks sequences. But positive things were in superiority. Some counters were amazing e. g. Diving Elbow Drop into Armbar. My overall rating of the match: ****."

[7.0] "Zack Sabre Jr. -vs- Jay Lethal – (Pro Wrestling World Cup – 1st Round) [*** 1/4] A lot of this was excellent. A slow creeper with the limb work taking time to sink in with both having a body part to dismember. But naturally Sabre is a natural at this game and really gave Lethal a wrestling lesson in large parts of this. Lethal was more heart, but seeing how good Sabre is at this, his heart was shining way brighter. Sabre once more proves he’s ruling the ground game in 2017."

[9.0] "Zack's work over Lethal is brutal all the way through the match. In the early stages Lethal tries to match his mat game, but then he realizes that you shouldn't try that with ZSJ, so he is in big trouble until he starts busting out those high impact comeback flurries of his. ZSJ was great as always with his work on top & Lethal was great fighting from underneath. Great stuff. ****"
