[7.0] "I thought this was a very good match. This took place the night after the Royal Rumble, where Gunther eliminated Kofi Kingston in the Royal Rumble match. This was domination from Gunther, with Kofi playing the role of underdog who got his comebacks. He even got a nearfull with a super Boom Drop from the top turnbuckle. It came as no surprise though that Gunther did end up beating Kofi as we were already close to WrestleMania 40. If there was anything to criticize, it was the lack of crowd reactions early on. They got louder as Kofi made his comebacks. Post match, Imperium attacked Kofi as well as Xavier Woods. ***3/4"

[7.0] "GUNTHER was, per usual, a monster. Kofi Kingston was game, but got frustrated as the match went on, taking some chances and trying to rush his finishers. This did lead to an impressive looking leap off the barricade onto his opponent on the steel steps. It also led to his downfall. GUNTHER saw through everything and wore down the challenger. Solid contest between these two, if a hair below some of the other title matches during the big Austrian's reign."

Gunther physically overwhelmed him and Kofi looked out of it until he countered a powerbomb on the outside. Kofi finally made a comeback, and they had some nice near falls before Gunther ultimately won.***3/4"

[8.0] "This match was very good for a TV match. Outcome was never in doubt because even as good as Kofi is there is no way I could see him beating Gunther before Mania. Gunther and Kofi had a very good clash of styles match where Kofi looked good but Gunther still came out looking like a dominant champ."

[6.0] "Good match, but much like the opener this didn't quite ring with me that much. Having current Kofi Kingston challenge the most dominant champion today (not Roman Reigns) is not going to be an exciting match at all, so it ended up being as good as it could be. Gunther always do great even when he goes autopilot mode on and Kofi was good enough to follow the flow of the match in a fine way. I didn't like how much Gunther tried the Boston Crab during the match. He already performed the move once, do something different instead of trying to lock it four times. The match didn't had any sense of urgence, no possibility of watching the title change hands, so it basically was a waste of a Title match, but as a match itself was solid enough (*** 1/4)"

"Gunther continues his unbelievable hot streak with another fantastic match. Kofi looked great as well with the SOS being a believable near fall. Another PPV quality match on this episode."

[7.0] "Good match for the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther predictably dominated most of the time, maybe for a little too long because this took quite a while for Kofi to start his comeback. The last 5 minutes were very good and made up for how average the rest was. Kofi got a couple of nearfalls to make this interesting, but Gunther powered his way to victory with a big clothesline, dropkick and power bomb. 7/10"

Kingston had a pretty good showing here, and GUNTHER looked amazing once again. This was a pretty fun match and I would like to think this would continue to lead us into the direction of a New Day vs Imperium 6-Man Tag, but, as far as I know, Big E's in-ring future is still up in the air currently."

[7.0] "The Intercontinental title match was good. Gunther had better title matches, but this one was decent enough for a regular Monday. Kofi showed he still got it while going toe-to-toe with the champion. Gunther was his usual dominant self. They had good chemistry, which showed for the better part of this match. Having Kaiser, Vinci & Woods in a post-match brawl (alongside Kofi) promises that this feud is far from over."

Even with Kofi physically not being in his prime anymore hes still able to put on a good match and his work is still good. Commercial breaks did mess with the flow of this match unfortunately but nonetheless its solid. 3.75/5"

[7.0] "Well... I think that was a good match? I definitely liked the 4 minutes of it I saw when I wasn't forced to look at a postage stamp in the left corner of my screen. What is it with Gunther matches and getting completely screwed over by commercial breaks? Anyways, what was fully visible was pretty good, and had all the hallmarks of a Gunther match. Holds, brutal offense, extremely fast-pace with simple moves that make everything feel impressive and look strong, Gunther getting smacked by a ringpost. Another solid show in what's currently the best title reign in WWE."
Immortan Scott wrote on 30.01.2024:
[10.0] "Gunther is easily the most talented wrestler in WWE today, he can get a great match out of almost anyone (he could probably have even gotten a great match out of the Ultimate Warrior). And his opponent is Kofi Kingston, a man who's so entertaining outside of the ring that it's easy to forget that he's an absolute beast in the ring. When they clash, oh god it's magic."
Bren0 wrote on 30.01.2024:
[6.0] "[3.5*] The pace of the match was completely disrupted by the commercials, whenever the match seemed to be going well the commercials appeared. The action in the ring was dominated by Gunther when Kofi reacted and the match was really good. When the match started to get good it simply ended. Disappointing despite the good moments."

In general, a classic duel between Gunther and this type of opponent. Everything was done to a high standard, so there is nothing to complain about. Nobody really counted on a title change here."

KKeanel wrote on 30.01.2024:
[8.0] "Putting Gunther's opponents as an underdogs from in-ring psychology usually works really well, but with Kofi it is a level above everything. High pace combined with champ's typical stuff didn't missed the point. Gunther has a chemistry with literally 90% os the roster, that's rare and great."

[8.0] "An amazing match in wich Kofi gave it his all this two guys where hitting each other with everything they had. Kofi looke spectacular I loved how he just kept getting back up and kept bringing it with that agresive side that we don't see that often and got himself some very near falls. At the end Gunther got the win with his powerbomb but it was an amazing match wich one can always expect Gunther and athletes like Kofi like we have seen before with other good wrestlers/athletes like Ricochet & Chad Gable."

[8.0] "This match was also a MOTN contender alongside DIY vs Judgement Day. Kofi Kingston started the match very aggressive to take Gunther off his game but Gunther is the RING GENERAL so he obviously stops that aggression really fast and told this story of Gunther targeting Kofis back (from Boston Crabs and those Irish Whips in the corner) which sparked a Kofi comeback. There were some memorable spots such as Kofi chopping Gunther so hard his chest started bleeding which is the same thing that Penta did to Gunther, Gunther chops never fails to satisfy me its just a thing of beauty, Kofis comeback was brilliantly executed, Gunthers lariats are so fucking nasty that it even makes JBL jealous, Gunther countering the Suicide Dive by DRIVING Kofis back first which made me feel pain watching it, Springboard Splash off a barricade onto Gunther who was laying face first on the steel steps, Diving Boom Drop from the top rope, Sudden Trouble in Paradise was cool but didnt like how Gunther just rolled out like that, Gunther ending with a powerbomb was perfect because he was working Kofis back the whole time so ending with a powerbomb was a perfect finish to end the match. I give this match a 8/10, I wish this was a bit longer so they can build up that story but other than that it was a great match."
