There's a decent story here, with Martin getting the better of the early exchanges and seemingly having an answer to all of Cassidy's signature moves, which frustrates the champion. The back and forth suplex spot was pretty cool, and it played into the story. The work is fine and there a couple of good spots, but the match feels a bit disjointed and a bit too much 'guys taking turns doing the moves they practiced' for my liking. Martin's offense is impressive but he's very green and that really shows here. There's also 0 heat to this, the result is a forgone conclusion, which doesn't help. And, of course, OC's comedy bits are still painfully unfunny, but at least they're kept to a minimum here

At one point in the match, Dante and Cassidy get into a suplex back-and-forth battle which the crowd pops loud for. And for my favorite part of the match, Martin stole Cassidy's well know "slothfense". AEW begins 2024 with a banger.

I just wish the Orange Punch that Cassidy hit on him to get the win looked better. As for what happened after the match, I'm happy to see Private Party back together, though I do have a feeling that they're going to get lost in the shuffle.

There's really nobody he can't work well with, and I love to see Dante back in singles action, the way he moves around the ring really is pretty special. Had a real good time with this.
