Cody vs. Jay Lethal

[8.0] "This was oldschool. Punches. Blood. Slams. Knees. It had it all and it was great. Rhodes and a Bullrope match. Can't go wrong. ****"

[6.0] "this match is alright. I didn't enjoy it this time around like i have in the past. I just don't enjoy the idea of cody loosing a match that is legit his family's match. The end of the match i respect what they had planned and wanted to do it just didn't come off entirely how it would have it it was a big sloppy. I enjoy the match but im not over the moon crazy about it. 3.50 stars"

[7.0] "Pretty good old-fashioned brawl, both were alright in their roles and they used bullrope gimmick well."

[9.0] "Hard hitting and bloody, this was a lot of fun and feels underrated to me. Further evidence that Cody is still a very good performer, despite some fans turning on him these days. The table bump was perfectly put together and they did a great job using the stipulation to good effect. Great match all in all, not perfect but lots of fun."

[10.0] "Cody's best match post-WWE? Absolutely. Everything from the entrances to the match itself had an old school, battle it out, fight for supremacy and hope you don't die in the process Memphis feel, combined with the athleticism one might expect fro a modern-day classic. There were several grueling looking spots, to the point where both competitors had massive welts and bruises by the end, but it was also well-complimented with some uniquely put together signature spots. Add on top of that the adherence and love to the history of the match and the real, heated intensity, and you've got one of my favorite stipulation matches this year."

[4.0] "The thing upon which this match fell for me was, of course, Cody. (And in-ring he is just a thing. ) So he's bum-rushed into a post of which he obviously, and rightfully, puts his hands up. He crawls underneath, and to any discerning fan, we know he's gone underneath to blade. He emerges w/ a pussy's prick and does a stumbling about, his equilibrium all amok, basically begging the 'stupid idiots' to go 'oooohhh... , ' and thus turning himself face when, in this storyline, he's a heel. I mean, can a heel just be a heel and not go for pops. And, again, it wasn't much of a cut, and as such it quickly dried-up. Cody's Dad would have shaken his head in disappointment verging on disgust. Lethal saved this hokeyness from a much lower score by bumping about for Legacy. 4. 25"

[9.0] "I don’t think I’ve watched a good one of these, so I was curious how it would be. I haven’t watched any of Cody Rhodes since WWE, but he seems to just have such a better aura of confidence about him now, and that’s great to see. This has just an old school feel to it and the two of them are working really well with the stipulation. It was no high flying or big moves till much later, just one dude in Lethal beating the hell out of another in Cody. Loved Lethal wiping Cody’s blood on his white shirt, really good storytelling there. Also loved Cody being such a cocky prick too, he’s really great, and how he was playing possum multiple times during the match too. Loved the vibe of this match, it was pretty damn good. ****1/4"

[9.0] "Now this was great. Certainly MOTN on a very nice show. The old-school stipulation, the old-school attire, the old-school brawling, everything about the aesthetic and atmosphere of this match felt 30 or more years back in time, and I loved it. The match was still very much Cody vs Lethal, however, as opposed to just working this generic old-school match; the combination of their modern offense with the old style was what made this work. I'm a sucker for matches where two guys are strapped together, and this match did enough with that for my fancy; Lethal dragging Cody into moves or out of the ring, especially pulling the Beautiful Disaster into a fucking nasty cutter, as well as Cody yanking Lethal onto his neck mid-Injection springboard. Cody blading was the icing on the cake here, with his blood being the perfect way to show that this was Lethal's vengeance. The elbow-to-the-cowbell spot was confusing until commentary explained, but otherwise this was a great blood feud blowoff and possibly the most in-his-element I've seen Cody since leaving WWE. **** but dammit here's a 9/10 for their fucking attire (those cowboy boots, those fucking 80s printed tees, Cody's motorcycle, the hats, everything; so good)."

[7.0] "Great build up to this match from a story stand point, some great moments and everything overall was solid. Worth watching."

[8.0] "This was heading towards the ****+ GREAT territory, but in the last third of the match or so the match started to overstay it's welcome - it was still good, but the intensity dropped quite a bit. I loved seeing Jay Lethal just kick Cody's ass all over the place - it was phenomenal, Cody sold it well & Lethal looked awesome working over him. Both guys have some really good looking punches, which are important in matches like this. Cody did a good job cutting off Lethal - only for Lethal to start kicking his ass again. Classic babyface getting the revenge story. This ruled. Also DAT TERRY FUNK TRIBUTE SHIRT. LETHAL SUCKS EGGS. ***3/4"
