This is not the best era of Tommy Rich but he had something to offer in this match at least, I thought this overachieved and ended up being a great Clash match on both sides. If you can't appreciate how good Luger looked here, I don't know what to tell you, this dude was on an awesome run. |

04.08.2025 | Erdrick | 8.0 | Tommy Rich somehow managed to do the impossible, wrestling around Lex Luger to carry the uncoordinated muscleman to a really good match.

17.02.2025 | JacquesRougeauCanHaveMyWife | 8.0 | Easily Tommy's best match since his return, and a stark contrast to some of his heatless bouts later on. Here, he was absolutely phenomenal as an underdog babyface, making it effortless to root for him. Luger, meanwhile, was continuing his incredible US title reign, further proving how underrated he is - especially during his NWA heel run. His character work is perfect, constantly reacting to everything and exuding arrogance through his trash talk and body language. His heat segment is great, the hope spots are well-timed, and Rich's comeback is full of energy. There's one botch where Lex gets dropped on his head, but luckily, nothing came of it, and they still delivered a great match.
29.10.2024 | benh2 | 8.0 | Ricky Steamboat left the company because Herd lowballed him on a new deal, so they parachuted Tommy Rich into the same spot which isn't a great start to this feud. Actually I'm being a little unfair to Rich because he works really hard here and Luger sells a lot to make him look a credible threat, while Rich does really well to hide Luger's limitations and portray him as a beast. The commentators put this over really hard and the story told in the ring is good as we got one of wrestling's greatest surprise gems. I never thought I'd be saying I wanted an extra few minutes from a Luger-Rich match, but here we are.

25.09.2024 | LincolnAntoine4482 | 7.0 | Damn Luger was giving a lot to Rich in the early stages of the match. He was bumping all over the place. I really like how hard Luger throws his lariats. Looks great when his opening evades them. Luger finally turned the tide with power moves and continually attacked Richs Lowe back. Cornette and Ross called the match extremely well. There was a king of botch when Rich suplexed Luger into the ring and it looked like Lex fell on the top of his head. He countered it into several powerslams to work the back. How can you watch this and then say Lex wasnt a worker. Insane. The hangman finish was little out of nowhere, would have liked to see Lex win it with the rack but oh well.

12.02.2024 | KingsCrossing | 7.0 | This was a very well told underdog story of Tommy Rich as the everyman against Lex Luger as the arrogant, genetically gifted athlete who has had everything handed to him. They way they both wrestle is perfect for that story and really gets you hoping Rich will pull off the upset. There was a scary moment where it looked like Luger got dropped on his head, but even that was presented as part of the story (Rich failing at a power move before getting promptly dropped by Luger). Special mention has to go to JR and Cornette on commentary, who did an excellent job putting over the story of the match.

31.07.2023 | Rjepic1 | 8.0 | This one fits the description of a hidden gem. Tommy Rich's WCW run peaks here as he gets a great match out of Luger. This was match of the night. A really fun match. The dynamics of this was good. This is the best showcase of heel Luger until his yet to come matches with Brian Pillman.

16.07.2023 | CMFunk007 | 8.0 | I've never been huge on Tommy Rich. His look is terrible, but I guess he's got some ring skill, Luger has the look, but his ring skills are lacking, though not terrible. He recently turned heel on Ricky Steamboat at the last Clash, I believe. This may be Rich's best singles match in WCW.

This match was much better than I expected, with some strong psychology over Rich's back, who did a great job at playing the "never say die" role having to fight from underneath. Also, the false finish that Rich got on Luger with the Thesz Press was incredible. Another great one from Luger, who was just on fire at this point in his career. Spectacular bout. [****] |
08.06.2021 | TigerDiver | 8.0 | This was on the verge of being GREAT. Wish it could've been about five mins longer at least. Terrific psychology and selling from both men, with some hot energy from the crowd. Great finish too. [***3/4]

19.09.2018 | RatingsMachine | 5.0 | This was an average match, one that comes off better than it really is because Luger is made to look smoother than he really is. Tommy Rich wasn't that great at this stage in his career, but there's something to be said for a guy who knows when to be in the right place at all times.

09.05.2016 | jackleone | 8.0 | Fresh of his heel turn, Luger had a long match with Tommy Rich, that it seems a believable contender. I like how intense that fight could be. The ending is not perfect but it was fine. ***3/4
07.02.2016 | The Doc | 8.0 | While others may say the main event was better this was the match of the night for me, a great showing between these two.
