The third fall here was missing something special, the double rope walk spot was recovered from decently enough but looked rough. Soberano Jr 's antics in the first two falls were entertaining, taunting Mascara Dorada and posing to the crowd at every opportunity. |
9 | 06.10.2023 | Cigarette Salesman | 8.0 | Granted, I do not watch every week, but for two falls this was my favourite match out of Mexico that I have watched in years and years. Soberano is on absolute world-class heel form, and makes everything better/mean more, and they run through them so relatively quickly that your anticipation is seriously well-built for the third fall. It turns out to just be fine. There is a big botch in there, but it's barely an issue given how they both work right through it like pros, it just doesn't live up to the expectations that the first half of the match sets. Very, very worth watching. The future should be bright at Arena Mexico. |
10 | 03.10.2023 | boymeetsworld | 8.0 | This is not a match that will be remembered for a long time (or probably will be thanks to one unfortunate botch), but to me, more than anything, this match sends a message that younger generation of CMLL wrestlers wants to change/freshen up the house-style, so it would appeal to the worldwide audiences more and more. One of the more common praises for CMLL matches that made noise this year is 'I wanna see so and so in the US/Japan/somewhere else', so in that regard it is a match that would be interesting to non-Mexican fans that put CMLL on their radars - either for the first time, or first time in a long time. Also a match like this new Mascara Dorada to transform opinion about himself from 'one-hit-wonder' to being seen as the real deal in a short period of time. Soberano Jr. is a tremendous heel imo, he does a lot of little things really well, which makes both wrestlers look better. ***3/4 |
