Muta's psychology was excellent as usual and the finish was fine to protect Sting for when he came back to Japan. Nice to see Sting getting pissed off by Muta's antics."

[8.0] "Sting and Muta have feuded now for a year and a half leading into this, though Sting has been preoccupied with Flair and The Black Scorpion mess while Muta went back to Japan. Their first match at the Great American Bash 1989 is a sentimental favorite of mine, though it didn't set the world on fire or anything. This one was pretty good. Muta is amazing as always. I never got tired of Muta from 1989-1991, but really wouldn't have even if he hadn't left the country. Brian Pillman, Tom Zenk, Tim Horner, and The Steiners are at ringside for Sting, who also carries his weight in this match. The pace slowed down after a quick start, but it never got dull."

Much of it was slow, and then you also have the screwy finish, and some of the transitions were awkward. Having said that, it was still cool to see these two future legends hooks up, and they did some good flying and high impact moves. Just a little disappointing for me."

[8.0] "One of the better early Sting matches, as he and Muta always had great chemistry. Sting is such a classic babyface, still a little green here but with so much charisma and athleticism, that when he's in there with a psychologically sharp and dynamic worker like Muta, he can really play to his strengths. Both men meshed well here, with Sting being the valiant hero, but Muta just being so much more experienced and cunning and working around his strength. He's always got his tricks, and an excellently deployed mist mid-splash is a great finish to take over."

[8.0] "Both men are extremely over. They keep a great pace for the entire match with Muta striking first, attacking Sting and hits a handspring back elbow into the corners, he lands on his feet after a missed moonsault and hits a spinning heel kick and an enziguri to Sting and hits a high cross body to the outside. Sting makes some great comebacks but Muta constantly cheats, including spitting the mist numerous times for the finish. This match was really, really good. Excellent reversals, very fast paced match up. Muta was just before his prime but he is still great here, as is Sting. ***3/4"
