[4.0] "There are parts of this match I like, but it is just so overbooked. You just know HHH vs Foley (as in the previous 2 ppvs) or HHH vs Rock (as in the next one) would have been a better main event. The McMahon in every corner gimmick really takes over the match, and that's why my rating is as low as it is. I didn't give a crap about any of the McMahons in the 00s and I definitely don't care about the pseudo family drama on rewatch."
[4.0] "I forgot how long this match was. It only existed because they wanted to milk the Triple H/Rock feud for another month because they were light on heels at the time. What they did at Backlash should've happened here. Triple H pins the Rock clean in the middle of the ring. Why does he get a rematch? It should've been a triple threat with Big Show eating the pin so they could move on."
[6.0] "This is one of those matches I have mixed feelings on because it should have been so much better than it was! I just didn't like the 'McMahon in every corner' stipulation at all because whilst there was important storytelling with Vince McMahon turning heel betraying The Rock and siding with Triple H, having then all there surrounding the ring like this just puts all the focus on the McMahon's and not the actual main eventers. The quality of the match itself was good despite some of the disappointing booking with the Big Show making no impact and getting eliminated very early. Foley's appearance was underwhelming too because it just did not make sense how he was working with Triple H to take out The Rock in the triple threat portion of the match. He got a big car crash spot and then he was quickly taken out by Triple H afterwards. His Hell in a Cell retirement match would have been a much better way for him to go out than this. The final stretch between Triple H and the Rock lasts a good 20 minutes and is really the only good one on one encounter at this entire show. It set the blueprint for the classic matches to come, but it really should have been a one on one match to begin with. Triple H ended up being the first heel to leave a WrestleMania as champion."
[4.0] "I'm gonna make a habit of saying this for Triple H matches at Mania, but this did not need to be so long. There was a hot point where it was Hunter, Foley, & Rock in there and the crowd was getting into it nicely, but after Foley was eliminated, it felt like a whole other 20-minute match that only needed to be five. None of the Vince and Shane stuff needed to happen, as it added unnecessary bloat to the match. Vince posting Hunter also didn't need to happen as it directly contradicted the finish, which was Vince helping Hunter win. Most importantly, this just never felt like a Mania main event. This felt like the main event of a post-Summerslam fall PPV that needed a jazzy tagline to spice up an otherwise lame card. I mean, that's exactly what this show was, a lame card with a jazzy tagline. So maybe it was fitting. **"
[6.0] "This match is extremely fine and, controversially, worthy of a Main Event. The way people talk about it you'd swear that this was some kind of disaster. I enjoyed it."
[7.0] "It's a decent match here as all of them try their best but Show is the worst of them as he get immediately go out then it's Mick who do somewhat decent but not his best outing and then Rock gets screwed by Mr McMahon"
[5.0] "So, we all know that the real main event of Wrestlemania 16 happened one month after the event ended at Backlash, but how is the match they dragged out there to try and pretend to be the main event? Hands down the best segment of the match was when it was between Mick, Rock, and Triple H. Before and after that is dull. Big Show seemed to get in the match solely to satisfy the McMahon in each corner gimmick. Then when it was down to Rock and Triple H alone, it was really bland. It's even more frustrating how the McMahon's shoehorned themselves into a Wrestlemania main event. Vince went heel again at the end. Big deal. No one cared. Everyone knew it was a matter of time anyway. And the Vince vs. Shane brawl before that ate up WAY too much time for no reason. Without the McMahon melodrama, this would have been 6 points easily. But due to how forced, boring, and predictable their drama was, I had to knock it down a point. What could have been a decent main event turned into nothing but ego stroking."
[1.0] "So the first important thing to happen in this match is The big show is IMMEDIATELY eliminated, really making sure that they kill any hope of The Big Show ever being taken seriously again. Seriously, this was the death of him as a character and just the absolute weakest way to build a monster. Then after he gets eliminated they all just fuckin stare at each other for like 2 minutes as Triple H tries to mime out a story for us all. Triple H constantly breaks up pins despite this being an elimination match. So fucking stupid. I give everyone a lot of credit as the crowd is definitely up for this. HILARIOUS FUCKING MOMENT where Mick tries to dive off the top rope to the announce table but totally does not make it. And this is Mick basically teaming up with Triple H to beat up the Rock which makes no fucking sense, since Triple H just retired the guy. Then Triple H basically just eliminates Mick Foley, to no fuckin avail whatsoever. Just an absolutely stupid booking decision and made it all the more pointless that he was added to this match at all. He softly hits Triple H in the face with the barbed wire 2x4 and then leaves. The Rock covers Triple H but of course Triple H kicks out. They go brawl outside for a long while, there's a spot where Triple H hits the rock with a chair while the rock's holding the steel steps, then Triple H hits a piledriver on the steel steps. He rolls the rock back in the ring and the rock kicks out. The Rock reverses a pedigree by sending Triple H outside with a back body drop and Triple H takes it on his hip, big bump. More brawling outside, brawl into the crowd. Back at ringside its a bad spinebuster to Triple H. then he sends him through the announce table with a vertical suplex. Thank god we get Vince vs. Shane in the middle of this to make it all worth it. Stephanie looks on like she's brain dead and just gawks at them. Vince also doesn't sell, great theme of this match, and then he levels shane with a couple of awful looking punches. Shane gives Vince a low blow and then they crawl around on the floor in their suits before Shane gives Vince a chair shot. Please dear god let this end soon. Michael Clarke Duncan is there! Legitimately thats the most exciting thing in this entire match. Rock and Triple H punch each other for a while before The Rock hits a DDT that leads to a pin. Stephanie literally doesnt do anything but stare wide eyed its insanely annoying. there's an awful looking tilt-a-whirl and then Triple H hits the rock with a barbed wire, because somehow now this is just a no dq match despite it being an elimination match. Shane gets into the ring and the rock catapaults Triple H into him. Rock hits a rock bottom on HHH. Shane is gonna hit The Rock with a chair but Vince comes back down and has bladed and then clears out Shane, and OMG SWERVE! Vince hits the rock and lets Triple H win. None of this makes any sense, its stupid as shit. The rock kicks out though, so Vince hits him again. Then Triple H wins. The crowd is 100% dead for this, the Mcmahons just made this about them and no one really cares. Crowd wanted so badly to enjoy this and it was just lame as hell, stupid wrestling. People start throwing shit into the center of the ring because this is so bad. This is a fail of a main event and one of the worst main events I've ever seen in any wrestling event just in terms of awful awful booking."
[5.0] "It's a fine enough match between all four men, but it dragged so much and the booking surrounding it dragged it down a lot too. should've just been Rock Vs Triple H."
[6.0] "This was a decent match but kind of dragged at points and the match had the wrong result. Big Show kinda got eliminated quickly. Foley and Trips double teamed Rock at points which didnt make much sense. Vince turned on Rock and help Triple H retain."
[6.0] "Bit too long, very strange decision to have Big Show eliminated so early in the match. Ending was very overbooked, also dont get why theyd have rock kick out of the chair shot to then just lose to another chair shot a minute later"
[5.0] "Meh, it was way too long. Ironically I enjoyed it the most before Triple H and The Rock were the only ones left, because then it became just another Attitude Era brawl and of course some kind of swerve had to happen that didn't make sense. Why do WWF managers always wait so long before betraying their guy? Just hit him at the beginning, otherwise the guy you want to screw might win the match before you do that."
[6.0] "it should have been triple h vs the rock in a single macth, the fatel four way concept should of been booked on a b level ppv, probably one of the most underwhelming wrestlemania main events in mania history the only thing that sticks out is I was shocked triple h won the macth, saying that it was a decent macth given it went nearly an hour , and a McMahon in every corner kind of gave more entertainment to the macth it was the attitude era so I do get why they did this being unpredictable time in wrestling"
[5.0] "Too long, too meh. It was clear that Rock vs Triple H was the original path to follow, but this was just very mediocre, with moments that just looked dumb, and the other two members of the match not doing enough in comparation."
[6.0] "A 4 Way Elimination without DQ or Count Out for precision. A good match overall, the duration suits me. Too much overbooking in the Rock Vs HHH finale which takes us out of the match, too bad. (3*1/4)"
[4.0] "This match, outside of the story, does nothing for me, especially for the Attitude era. Very clearly the addition of some McMahons was the focus, and the match was the background feature. Unfortunately only a couple of the McMahons are entertaining, and the match was just overall lackluster."
[6.0] "As a kid I thought this was so cool. Now? An overbooked mess that's hard to follow. Clearly, Foley and especially Big Show are just an afterthought in the match, so they should have just booked Rock vs Triple H. It was kinda cool to see a heel go over in a WrestleMania for the first time, but this match, up until that point, felt like less of a Wrestlemania main event and felt more like it belonged on your average monthly PPV."
[6.0] "Know that it is terribly difficult to accurately give a rating to this match, so if you are reading this and want to see it, you are warned. That said, this was the first WrestleMania main event I've ever seen, and perhaps in retrospect I could have picked a better main event. Many have always said that this match should have been a closed deal between The Rock and Triple H (which we later saw at Backlash 2000), but to continue the experiment of only multi-man matches of Wrestlemania 2000, they opted for the "A McMahon in every corner" storyline. The match itself is quite strange, and VERY overbooked, as you would expect from an Attitude Era main event. As I said it's difficult to accurately give a rating to this match: so many things happen that someone could feel entertained and someone else could be terribly bored, and honestly I felt both sensations. In some situations I enjoyed it, in others I had the feeling that a hammer on the testicles would have been more edifying. In addition, the match is unjustifiably long. Almost 40 minutes end up tiring the viewer, despite the massive dose of overbooking. I certainly won't forget this main event easily, but I don't know if for right or wrong reasons"
[5.0] "Fine enough four way from the wrestling side, but it goes on for just way too long. Some moments really didn't make sense, why in the hell would Foley stop the Rock from hitting the people's elbow on Triple H for example. The match lost me at times with the amount of overbooking it had"
[4.0] "You had mick Foley team up with HHH to beat up THE ROCK. Terrible idea, if you just made this a triple threat without the big show and had Rock win this would be much better"
[3.0] "If this match were anything other than the main event of the biggest wrestling show of the year, it would have been lost to the rubbish bin of history. Unfortunately, this match IS the main event of the biggest wrestling show of 2000. As a match, it is very dull, featuring no memorable spots. But, what drags this match down further is the absolutely atrocious psychology on display. The most egregious display is obviously Foley teaming with HHH to try and eliminate the Rock; it was in the months prior to this match that Foley had been involved in a blood feud against HHH that concluded with Foley being forced to retire (which this match totally ruined). Yet, in this match, he and HHH are able to coexist to try and eliminate the Rock who, it must be stated, is a long-time ally of Foley as one-half of the Rock 'n' Sock Connection. It's just nonsensical to watch. The Big Show is barely in this match as he is eliminated very quickly, so nothing to talk about there. After Foley is eliminated, the Rock and HHH proceed to have a very dull brawl before McMahon melodrama consumes the match; it leads to Vince turning heel by attacking the Rock (who could've seen that one comin'; eh? ) and forming the McMahon-Helmsley Regime. Oh, and the match itself drags on for over 35 minutes. Ugh. Overall, I recommend avoiding this match unless you really want to watch every 'Mania main event; otherwise, this is a total waste of time. *3/4"
[8.0] "Long, but entertaining. Foley had his moments, Triple H was at the beginning of his Reign of Terror era, Rock closed the show with the beatdown, but Show was eliminated a little too early. Great match overall."
[3.0] "I'm all for the idea of a 4-way main but maaan this was booked awfully. The Mcmahon in every corner is just so self-indulgent it takes me out of wanting any guy to win. Big Show being there was just to remedy the Rumble stuff, Foley being there a month after retiring made no sense and his retirement here was a small piece in a 40 minute match and the Rock and HHH's stuff had good action but a poor finish. Vince turned heel with a chair shot for a 2 count and then another ends it...and then they all reunite kinda and the Rock stands tall and this is 40 minutes long oh god WHY - *1/2"
[5.0] "Settle in ladies and gents, the spectre of Triple H's reign of terror is starting to hang over us. This was way too long and I was thankful when it ended."
[0.0] "The biggest poop stain on what was otherwise probably the most consistent year in WWE's history, this main event that was supposed to be the rock vs. triple h is completely ruined and made almost unwatchable to me due to the horrible McMahon in every corner bullshit, the big show being added solely because he was in a noticeable botch at the rumble and doing nothing of note, Mick foley coming back 1 month after he kayfabe retired to tag team with the shithole heel who retired him, this match being dragged over half an hour because of all this and then the wrong guy won in the end. Absolute poop."
[6.0] "This match should have just been Triple H vs The Rock. Mick Foley is back one month after his emotional retirement. Big Show is a complete afterthought. They only did it to have a McMahon in every corner. With that said, the match itself felt a bit too long, but still featured some good double team and triple team action, which is refreshing from the main problem I have with the Triple Threats and Fatal 4-Ways where it's just a one-on-one match, and the other guy(s) rest on the outside. With that said, it didn't need to last 38 minutes, and didn't need the McMahons to take the spotlight."
[6.0] "I think this might be my earliest memory of the internet fake outraging and quitting the product over HHH winning. HHH being the first heel to close out Mania with a win felt like an obnoxious self service to many people, but despite that and the McMahon's making it mostly about them, the match was decent. Big Show got eliminated early then things picked up. Mick Foley being brought back for "One Final Match" was bittersweet and the crowd was royally pissed when he got eliminated. Match ends with Vince McMahon turning on Rock and helping HHH retain. I didn't hate it as much as other people. Better get used to it WWFE fans, you are going to be seeing the HHH circle jerk for the next 6 or 8 years."
[6.0] "The idea of an elimination match rather than a one-fall match is good, but they didn't make as much of it as they could here with Big Show going out early and the retiring Foley clearly not going to win. The match was ultimately far too long and slow with HHH and the Rock being gassed by the end of it, and there being too many repeated spots. The family drama nonsense took away from it as well. All that said, there was a lot of good stuff here, and the mix of styles of the four men was interesting, but not quite enough to be great."
[8.0] "I went into this expecting it to not like this much but it's actually pretty good, doesn't drag at all up until the end with the stupid McMahon family drama. Big Show had some dominance early on until everyone went against him and eventually the big man got eliminated. Match noticeably improves when it's down to just Foley, HHH and Rock, we got some double teaming up and good brawling up until Foley's elimination. Rock and Triple H had a good one-on-one match but I'd say the match drop starts when we have to watch a Shane and Vince brawl as Rock and HHH sat in the ring and did nothing. Ending with Vince turned on The Rock and it took two chair shots to the head to put him down, we got a near fall that still gave you hope he was gonna win. It was like Russo came back for one night to book the main event down the stretch. Good match that had a hot crowd with a bad finish.***3/4"
[4.0] "Even though 2000 was one of WWE's best-ever years, the Wrestlemania main event was a sure misfire. Foley is back one month after his retirement and his heart is not in this at all and his entire appearance feels like such an afterthought. Show is eliminated quickly after a triple team attack, signaling the end for his main event run. Clocking in at over 36 minutes and with a Mcmahon in the corner for each wrestler, this was way too long and the overabundance of Mcmahon involvement hindered what could have been a great match between Rock and Triple H."
[0.0] "The Rock vs. Triple H, das wäre ein würdiger Wrestlemania16 Main Event gewesen. Durch Backstage Politik dann eine Fatal 4 Way mit dem Schwiegersohn Triple HHH als Sieger. Schade. Das Ende des Matches hat für mich auch zu viel "McMahon" drin. :>"
[2.0] "What should have just been Rock vs. Triple H is diluted with the additions of Big Show and (less egregiously) Mick Foley, but then the McMahon family drama drags this down to the pits. The match isn't bad when all that mess is ignored and it's just action, but the ending makes it impossible for me to consider this anything other than inadequate."
[8.0] "I thought this match was paced almost perfectly for being nearly 40 minutes long. It has alot of great moments and builds in a slow, but dramatic way. The crowd was pretty underwhelming for most of it, but I personally enjoy this match alot more than most people seem to."
[7.0] "I had heard a lot of hate for this match before first seeing it, but honestly, it impressed me and was one of the better WrestleMania main events to this point. This match could have been a classic in my opinion if it wasn't for the pointless and uninteresting drama with the McMahons. The in ring action was absolutely great and the story throughout between the competitors in the ring was actually pretty strong, everybody who was actually competing in the match came across looking good. This match was on track to be a classic in my opinion until Vince interfered and Shane came back to the ring. Overall, a great match that was largely held back by pointless involvement by the McMahons forced by their own egos, which is symbolic of a lot of WWE/F matches. ***3/4"
[8.0] "I might actually be more high on this match than most. I thought the match for most of it was really well paced. The match had some logic to it with everyone teaming with each other when the benefits are clear. There is some exciting action throughout. The crowd are into it. Now when it comes down to the final stretch, the match does become a bit of a slog, mostly because it becomes a 1999 Main event within a match as well as the over complicated McMahon bollocks. Overall this was a very, very good main event. ***3/4"
[6.0] "I wanted to really like this match just like I wanted to really like this Wrestlemania. For both instances I can say, eh, it's slightly above average overall. I liked Big Show's early run of dominance in the match and Foley/Rock/HHH teaming up to get rid of him, typical giant story but it made sense. Foley teaming up with Rock for a bit was cool as well as the uneasy alliance between Foley/HHH which led to the table spot with Mick which I'm not sure was a botch or not, also leads to a few awkward spots with HHH trying to break the table but failing. Rock/HHH's stretch of the match was decent but it mainly revolved around the Attitude Era crowd brawl style that I've gotten tired of at this point. The spot with the steel steps was good as well as the suplex through the table but that led to the weird as f**k point where Shane and Vince brawl on the outside for 3 minutes while Rock/HHH do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in-ring. I finally get why people can't stand the McMahon in Every Corner nonsense, that overbooking was just pointless considering what happens in the ending. Speaking of which, Vince turns on Rock with two chair shots to the head (one that leads to a pretty cool near-fall) and HHH retains in a first ever heel ending for Mania. Loved the crowd throwing drinks and stuff into the ring, gave me a One Night Only 1997 vibe, but thank god for the Rock's post match beatdown because that ending to Mania would've been a little too cheap. I did like a good number of the spots in this match (forgot to mention Mick turning on the Rock which was a nice bit) but this match was way too long for its own good. Could've easily cut 10 minutes off of it. Also, the McMahon nonsense gets really annoying by the end of this match, if Linda turned heel I would've blown a gasket. Why the everlasting f**k did Vince and Shane beat on each other if they were in cahoots the whole time? This ending was almost Vince Russo levels of annoying swerve. Ends the match on a sour note ***1/4"
[6.0] "What lets this main event down is that the crowd is more interested in the saga between the four McMahons than any of the actual competitors so the match just falls flat, even with all the destruction the crowd barely livens up at all until there are McMahons involved. In theory it was a good match, but in practicality not much of the match made any sense particularly the random teaming up of Foley and HHH given their history."
[5.0] "Well, this was an overbooked mess. Some of the work was quite good, but the finish was an unnecessary overbooked swerve that completely detracted from the previous half-hour of the match. The psychology of Foley in the match didn't make much sense and wasn't sufficiently explained by the announcers or the competitors. A flat finish was partially made up for by the post-match, but not enough to make this an enjoyable segment that was overlong and underdelivered."
[6.0] "It's not a great main event, it's different from every main event before at Wrestlemania, but that does not mean it's better. The only part I really like it's the final one on one between Triple H and The Rock, that is great. Too much oriented on the McMahons and less on the four wrestlers. Anyway it's not a bad match but it could have been better. ***"
[6.0] "very surprised to see this added, nothing really special happened and for the most part was average. Quite funny as it was added to the match guide not long after I watched it."
[7.0] "It is about time they added this match. I know alot of people say this match was bad or disappointing, but I thought it was good. Elimination multi man matches are my favorite type of matches because usually the booking is pretty good and I liked the booking for this match with the McMahon's with each wrestler."
