I hate their chemistry, basically their ring style and psycologh doesn't fit in ring, even more for a mid card belt. However, I can't deny how good the crowd was for them and the great atmosphere we had. Not a single move here looked bad, I just looked at that match and felt like I was disappointed when it was over."
[10.0] "Drew McIntyre and Gunther are two great European wrestlers, and this was billed as a dream match before they even had their match, and the expectations were really high because they are such great wrestlers They had a triple threat match at Wrestlemania 39 before that, which included Sheamus, and that match really stole the show, so the singles match between them was highly anticipated, and it was very good, but if the match had been a little longer, it would have been a match of the year candidate"
[7.0] "With the magic these two (alongside Sheamus) produced at WrestleMania, having them wrestle one-on-one at SummerSlam had me (and I guess all of us) hyped up. Yet, somehow, this fell kinda flat... The crowd was not into it, and it pretty much killed the match. The action is solid, Gunther does a good job at making Drew look like a legit threat, but the atmosphere crucially lacked and did not help. It simply did not click for some reason. It's still pretty good, just not as good as expected and therefore, disappointing. [ 74 ] *** 1/2"

If they received 20/25 minutes the match would have gotten to 4.5+ levels of greatness, but with the time they had, they did very well. Gunther may be the best wrestler in the whole world right now and he sure as hell is the best champion. Long live to the Ring General."

The tension was so dense that it could be cut with a knife and it was kept that high until the end, but the major issue is that the length was too short for these two men to tear the house down and I accept that without a doubt. Had it been a bit longer (like, around 20 minutes at least), this match would've easily been on the list of the greatest matches from GUNTHER's miraculous reign. It's still there but came up a bit short. 4 out of 5 stars!"

Just the chop battle fulfilled that, but the match was a complete disappointment from both men, who didn't push forward as they should. Too average even if this was made on a weekly show. I don't know what happened here, but they seemed so off. So disappointed (***)"
[8.0] "A good match but that couldn't lift up to the level of their WM match probably due to the lack of time. The crowd seems kinda dead for most of this which doesn't help either. The poor build up is also a reason as it seems pretty clear before the match that Gunther was not going to lose and that McIntyre's return has not been exciting as it should've been. 8/10."
[6.0] "I was a little disappointed by it. Normally I watch Gunther's matches on the edge of my sit, but I just kinda zoned out here. It wasn't bad or anything, but even after returning Drew feels stale and I couldn't get into this partly because of him. They worked hard, but it wasn't on the level of IC match from Clash at the Castle or the WrestleMania Triple Threat Match."
[8.0] "It was disappointing, as I expected a barn burner on par with the matches that include Sheamus. It was still enjoyable, don't get me wrong. Two meaty men slapping meat is something that is hard to miss and these two are talented enough to make it work. But, on top of the crowd still recovering from the soul draining MMA match that happened before, the match just never kicked into a higher gear like we all wanted them to. But still, a good match overall."

[7.0] "7.5/10 Good match but honestly was too short for my liking and the crowd was mostly dead through the match likely because of the mma rules match. The match wouldve definitely benefited from being 18-20 minutes long instead of just the 13 they were given. Good action as always from these 2 just werent helped by the crowd and length of the match."
[7.0] "Not sure if it was due to my high expectations but this didn't quite hit the heights I think it should. It was fine, wrestled well, hard-hitting, and a good ending sequence, but it didn't feel half as epic as either competitor's matches with Sheamus. Perhaps they were holding back for a bigger match, or maybe their chemistry is a little off, but this wasn't the show stealer expected. Was still pretty good though, and I'd like to see a rematch to see if it was just an off-night."

My biggest criticism is that if they're gonna force these guys (and Sheamus) to have the same style match again and again at least mix it up or further some storyline or something, otherwise you're making them into a gimmick act."
[7.0] "Substantial meat slappage on display here with powerful maneuvers from bell to bell. Wish this had more time though because they did shift gears pretty quickly. Gunther laying in the moves at the end was a highlight of the night, and something I wish was just a bit more common in wrestling."
[8.0] "Just what you expect from a Gunther match. Hard hitting, no nonsense in your face action , raw physical, just flesh on flesh action. Nothing fancy here. You cannot go wrong in a Gunther match and that is especially true when Gunther has a dancing partner like McIntyre. This was just so much fun. Loved the commentary as well. ****1/4"
[8.0] "This didn't reach the heights of their Triple Threat at WrestleMania 39 with Sheamus, or even the amount of hype surrounding it, but it was still a pretty good match and a hard-hitting one at that. WWE really had me worried that Drew might win the title before GUNTHER became the longest reigning champion, but I'm super happy they decided to keep the belt on GUNTHER. He's one of the best wrestlers in the world at the moment and he absolutely deserves to break that record. As for Drew, I'm interested to see where he goes from here. An idea/rumor I've seen floating around is a heel turn and a feud with Cody Rhodes, which I would absolutely be down for. Overall, this was a pretty good match and I'm looking forward to seeing what both men do next."

It was nowhere near their wrestlemania three way classic, they were kicking out of finisher very early in the match I was like wtf am I watching Brock Lesnar ? I probably would have rated this 8 if the three way didn't exist"
[8.0] "Not as heavy-hitting as the Mania triple threat, but Drew and Gunther put on a quality match here. The only real issues with the match are the lack of super gnarly attacks, and the fact that there was a time constraint trying to overload the SummerSlam card. A few more minutes of these two beating the piss out of each other would have been greatly appreciated."
[7.0] "These two should have had a longer match.The match was already really good but a few more minutes would really do Gunther and Drew more justice as, just like most Gunther matches recently, it ended out of nowhere. In general it was a great match and is good to see Gunther having a victory against a big name like Mcintyre."

[7.0] "A very good match between Gunther and Mcintyre, but it wasn't the best possible level between these two wrestlers. Already, it was tough to come right after Rousey and Bazler's bad match. The audience was cold. Otherwise, there wasn't enough time to raise the hype of the match. The structure lacked a bit of length. There was no time to captivate the crowd. A better placement on the card would have helped much better. In terms of the performance of the wrestlers, it was very good. They are excellent wrestlers and their techniques are incredible. I have nothing to say on that. In conclusion, it was a good match, but badly placed and lacked a bit of time and a stronger structure."

Gunther not pinning Drew immediately after the Splash because Drew had kicked out of it early, and then afterward hitting a chop plus powerbomb to put him away was a good ending to this.****"

I wish it had gone on a bit longer, it took a while to get good, and this it was over just like that. Oh well, I'm glad Walter/Gunther won though hopefully he'll actually beat that dumb Honky Tonk IC title record, but he's made it this far so one would assume yes. 7/10"

In general, the match left quite pleasant impressions, but personal expectations were too high and previous matches on the show had already greatly spoiled the impressions of the show. Therefore, it was not possible to get a lot of pleasure from watching the match. Gunther is still good and strong, I am waiting for a record and a worthy transfer of the title to a new owner"
[8.0] "This was a nice pick-me-up that delivered what you expected of it. Two big guys with existing heat and a decent storyline build from Money in the Bank came together to knock each other senseless, with the babyface throwing everything at it only to come up short and lose clean. There were the expected hard hitting spots, as well as some that showcased the incredible agility and versatility of two big dudes. It was a highlight on an otherwise fairly lacklustre night."
[5.0] "A miss from Gunther and Drew here. Thought they both worked hard, but I don't think this reached the highs of other Gunther matches. They both kicked out of each others finishers, then Gunther hit his combination, and they went home. Haven't been super impressed with Gunther's PPV matches since Mania and this match continued that trend."
[7.0] "A match that felt longer than it was, yet never felt like it drug on too long. This was hard-hitting, but ended up feeling just a step below their Wrestlemania encounter. I think if you gave these guys 10 more minutes they 100% steal the show. It feels a little too much like their only having Gunther keep the belt until he passes the Honky Tonk man's record, which slightly took away from the unpredictability of this match. Still, these guys are never going to have a bad match together."
[8.0] "This fulfilled my expectations, it was very physical, tough and very entertaining. Both of them made a great perfomance. Maybe it was short, but they ajusted on a great way to the time given. Gunther deserves to break Honky Tonk Man's record of days with the Intercontinental Championship, and i hope that Drew win the title when Gunther break the record of days."
[8.0] "When I go into watching a Gunther match, I am expecting brilliance and stiff wrestling. With Drew, whom I think is a fantastic wrestler, I expect a bit of the same sans the level of brilliance Gunther has. Put simply, the expectation I carried into this bout clouds my feeling toward it. It was great wrestling, sure, but it never kicked into the next gear, very much like Okada v Danielson a little over a month ago."

Perfectly fine but nothing that blew me away like I expected from these two. I also do not buy the big splash as a believable move from skinny Walter, specially on a guy bigger than him in McIntyre."
[9.0] "The best Intercontinental title match since Wrestlemania. A bit disapointed that Drew didn't win, but still a great match, I can decide between this one and Balor/Rollins for match of the night. The question right now is, Who the heck will be able to beat Gunther?"
[8.0] "Not on the level of the Intercontinental Title Match from Wrestlemania this year. Gunther matches remain the best parts of WWE in 2023. Drew McIntyre unfortunately did not fully bring it here and despite me going into the match convinced Drew would win as it progressed his performance converted me to believing Gunther was retaining."
