3 | 18.02.2025 | FelipeTalksGraps | 9.0 | [4.5*] Awesome match. This was way different than the other CMLL matches I saw recently. This was more methodical and slow paced with most defined characters and a clear home country hero + a heel cocky foreigner. For lucha libre I kinda prefer the more fast paced bouts but I get 100% why they went this route and it accomplished every goal possible with keeping the match really good to watch, so I guess it is a W/W situation. This was the biggest Mascara match of his career at this point and Rocky was treating him like a non-experienced baby and kept control in the first few minutes, but then with the help of the flaming crowd Mascara is able to connect his big moves and win it all. A storytelling match, that is for sure, and it delivered pretty damn fucking well. |

10 | 05.09.2024 | danzitorock | 9.0 | Fantastic finale for the Leyenda de Plata tournament, no foreigner has ever won it, and Rocky was trying to be the first one, acting extremely disrespectful and doing a phenomenal heel work. He was portrayed as the cocky gringo, and Mascara is the young prodigy, trying to keep the tradition and carry the legacy of the legendary El Santo. You cannot bring more storytelling to a match than this, it's literally perfect. This is my favorite match in CMLL history by far, amazing dynamic, I simply love this kind of dynamics, specially involving a whole nation. I can imagine mexicans screaming on the window after the match ended, fantastic stuff, really good - {****1/2} |

14 | 05.04.2024 | arrancar | 6.0 | Quite good but certainly nothing that special. It was again another modern lucha match where the work in-between their big spots didn't have much thought behind it. They did have a very half-hearted attempted at a story as Rocky intermittently targeted Dorada's ribs, but neither felt at all significant because they never got consistent enough focus. Rocky initially did really well targeting the ribs, doing so with good aggression and a good variety of cool moves. Dorada's real-time and short-term selling were always pretty good, even if a few times he did get a bit overly animated and goofy, but then he'd always completely drop that selling whenever Rocky stopped his targeting for longer than 30 seconds, at which point Dorada would begin flying and bumping all over the place without seemingly any pain at all, which sadly made Rocky's targeting feel pretty insignificant. Even excusing those periods in the first half with Rocky's good beatdown work and ribs-targeting, both guys were still throwing in big spots pretty consistently, and even more so in the 2nd half, and it always felt jarring because they almost never sold these big moves for the length equivalent to how damaging they looked. Even if Dorada's no-selling of his ribs was really disappointing, at least all his stunts always looked very athletically spectacular. Rocky also had some pretty cool big moves that were executed with good technique, but it was still often the case that none of those moves felt appropriately significant because they weren't sold for too long, plus the set-ups for their biggest spots often involved too much cooperation to look convincing. Dorada of course *only* returned to selling his ribs once Rocky returned to targeting them again, and once again that selling of his was only incredibly brief before he returned to hitting all sorts of moves ribs-first despite not showing any signs of pain there. They also of course brought out quite a lot of near falls at this point, given those are basically inseparable from such big-move trades. Their rapid pin trades and strike trades towards the end were pretty fun because of how speedy and cleanly they hit, though it definitely felt rather mindless with them simply continuing to take turns as they'd already been doing. I will at least say that the near fall on Rocky's slick Camel Clutch counter was genuinely very good, and it was indeed really dramatic watching Dorada desperately fight to reach the ropes. Just for Rocky's brief but good rib-targeting and Dorada's mindless but undeniably impressive stunts, this was at least quite good at the very least. ***1/4 |

24 | 14.01.2024 | deeco97 | 7.0 | Really, my biggest problem here is the middle portion. The start and end are fast and fluid, with both trading high-intensity moves, but towards the middle, when Rocky comfortably gets in charge, the pace slows to a lot of flash-pins, submissions, and back-and-forth striking. Rocky plays the old-school veteran heel increibly well here, very animated and constantly taunting between moves. Dorada plays the newbie face well, getting in athletic hope spots, although I did notice the crowd was cheering Rocky for big portions here. The hot crowd partnered with intense commentators and refuted this extensively. |

Romero played the rudo role very well and while I love Dorada I think he needs a bit more work in the main event singles scene before he really nails it but there's a tonne of promise. ****1/2 |

41 | 24.10.2023 | BH62 | 9.0 | Romero is having the run of his life, established himself as the grand vilain of CMLL and put over youngsters like Mascara Dorada. We've the same age and damn, he's already that great. Another luchador that gravity has forgotten because the dude jumped all fucking around. And from there, Romero took a big pleasure to break the momentum with great submissions and sneaky tactics. It was clearly a masterpiece of heelwork. Despite being now 40, Azucar put on some very enjoying lucha spots as well; like an insane dive where he could have injured himself pretty bad. The Arena Mexico definitely bought the story and that added a lot. The charm of lucha libre. For those who weren't convinced, that bout definitely put Dorada on the map. Even though he's a bit clumsy sometimes, he puts on crazy moves sequences and moves for such a young wrestler... and gives a second youth to another. |

He is the perfect heel here, just an utter prick and cutting off Masara Dorada at exactly the right moment every single time just when the crowd are ready to go crazy for the big spots and making them wait that little bit longer. Rocky damn near murders the Mexican on a dive to the outside. This match might just have the best camel clutch spot I have ever seen, the whole crowd were on their feet urging Mascara Dorada to the ropes. MOTYC ****3/4 |

Dorada 2.0 has a ton of flashy moves in his arsenal & the fans are desperate to see them, so Romero keeps cutting him off & denying them their fun. Until he doesn't & of course the place comes unglued for an epic series of potential finishes. Can't go the full five on this because Dorada is kinda awkward & clumsy in his roll ****1/2 |

71 | 12.08.2023 | Mizzle Assault Ant | 10.0 | It's been a minute since I was able to check out some real lucha libre, and this did not disappoint. On one side you have the 21 year old Dorado, who has quickly become a fast rising star in lucha and rightfully so in my view. On the other side, Rocky Romero. I've never been a huge fan of Romero through his appearances in New Japan, ROH, and AEW, he's certainly not bad but seems to lack something to really hook me in. I think he found that hook here though, as he was playing a masterful heel and probably doing his career best performance in this match. Snide, condescending, perfectly playing the crowd and even me at home, he definitely elevated this match, and also hit a crazy sick dive that was almost Darby Allin-esque in its intensity. The match had cool moves for sure, but what set it apart is that despite having almost no context coming in, I was able to easily key in to the story of the match, the role of both guys, and really get invested in Dorado getting the win. That's one of the hallmarks of great wrestling right there, when it works it crosses all language and style barriers and produces something extremely fun. |

Romero did a tremendous job throwing obstacles in his path, but Mascara Dorada 2.0 overcame them in impressive ways which only made me wanted to see him win more and more. ****1/4 |
