[8.0] "Sami and KO are just soulmates of wrestling. Whether teaming up or fighting one another like they did here, the two men never fail to have great matches with each other, and this was no exception, getting the crowd back. Kevin's clean win and postmatch promo were a plus too."

[7.0] "A really good but totally transitional match here between Owens and Zayn, it's clearly incomplete and make it clear we'll have more chapters in the future, so yeah, could've easily being done on a weekly show for example, but even so, it was very cool, their chemistry together is wonderful, and that was not a disappointing WWE main roster debut for this rivalry. It's a different style from what they're used to, it's slower and softer, but they definitely fit well into the WWE system, and I'm sure the next matches with more storytelling and drama will be a blast. That was a reduced showcase, but they've managed to show how talented they are and the crowd was definitely loving it - {***1/4}"

[8.0] "Very entertaining enjoyable match but i mean name a match that has these 2 guys together in some way that isnt entertaining. I really enjoyed this stuff back when it first aired and always love going back to rewatch this match here. Started out a tad basic and a lil WWE style but about halfway through this match they were really giving us all they got and it was a hell of a match. 4.25 stars"

[9.0] "Whilst the best would still be yet to come, the first match of this feud was still incredibly enjoyable and showcased exactly why Triple H put stock in these two men, and why we should care."

[7.0] "A very good match but it's not the best clash between the 2 former best friends turned enemies. (3*3/4)"

[8.0] "It wasn't at the level of their best work, but it was still a great match. It was everything you'd expect from Owens and Zayn- intense, fast paced, and action packed. It's actually slightly jarring going back and watching this, because both are so much faster than they are in their more recent WWE matches - which is no surprise, of course, it just stood out a lot now that I am used to their current work. At any rate, this is a really fun and energetic match, and probably one of their better WWE matches against each other."

[6.0] "Somewhat good. Nothing wrong with the action, it just wasn't memorable. At least the crowd liked it."

[8.0] "The pre-match video before the match does a good job of describing the history between the two and why they started having such a personal rivalry. Ko controls the match for a decent amount of time, his trash-talking in the process was good. then Sami makes his comeback and his offense has a lot of energy behind it. They go back and forth more towards the end, the sequences during this were much better. Superkick into a pop-up powerbomb after avoiding the helluva kick gets Kevin the win.****"

[9.0] "Phenomenal match between Owens and Zayn that once again proves the extent of their incredible chemistry as this is their first match in the main roster and perhaps one of the few rivalries that was produced much better in the main roster than in NXT, where both of their matches were way below their usual standards to be honest. But here they prove that no matter what context they're put in, they still manage to deliver because they're the kind of wrestlers that have THAT special connection. They can go from a long thirty-minute main event in PWG or ROH with stipulations to a singles match very early in the card of a random WWE PPV like this one, all without it looking out of place. This was quite simply a terrific wrestling match here as expected and the first time they were able to face each other on a big stage, creating a next step in their legendary rivalry that has lasted for so many years now. The intensity in their moves perfectly conveyed how much they hate each other, especially in the beginning with a vengeful Zayn already giving you a crazy dive only thirty seconds after the bell rings. Everything was well done with some big moves and believable nearfalls, I loved it so much and the ironic thing is that this is far from being their best encounter."

[8.0] "Match of the night! Kevin and Sami are always great together, and I think this is one of their best main roster matches that they've had."

[9.0] "Wow sehr gutes Match mit einem unglaublichen Tempo und Intensität. Sehr viele Moves und coole Spots mit non selling Sequenzen. Abgesehen von diesen Sequenzen war das selling jedoch hervorragend **** 1/4."

[8.0] "Die beiden liefern sich wieder ein gutes Match. Einige gute Sequenzen oder Aktionen wie dem No Sell Moment oder eben den angesprochenen Konter des DDTs in den Backbreaker. Das Ende ist doch etwas zu deutlich. Hätte hier Zayn den Payback nach der ganzen NXT Geschichte gegönnt. (4*)"

[8.0] "Obwohl ihr zweites Match bei Battleground besser war, finde ich, dass Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens von Payback ein klasse Match war. Gute Story und Schöne Spots. Zudem ein super Finish. Ich gebe **** Sterne für das Match."

[8.0] "Leider von der Card-Positionierung an der wohl schlecht gewähltesten Stelle überhaupt und trotzdem Schaffen Zayn und Owens hier ein durch und durch sehr starkes Match auf die Beine zu stellen. Wie gewohnt bieten die beiden sehr gekonnte Sequenzen, mithilfe einer famosen Chemie, + sogar ein No-Sell-Spot-Abtausch wie man ihn aus Japan gewohnt ist. Leider ist die ganze Geschichte ein wenig knapp und am Finish vielleicht ein wenig deutlich und das hält das Match ab mehr zu sein als es wirklich ist. Tolles Match (****)."

[8.0] "Not the best I have seen of the two together, but still a nice match. Crowd was really hot for both men especially when the nearfalls and sequences started. There is not much to say about this match besides that it was pretty simple in moves between both men, but still a very fun atmosphere. KO had control of the match for the first half then Sami made his comeback, kind of an abrupt ending though. Thankfully the after match antics showed this rivalry was far from over, ****1/4."

[7.0] "This was pretty good. I often find Zayn to be an obnoxious babyface. His fire up spots and comebacks always feel very forced because he comes off as arrogant and unlikeable, at least to me. Being that I find his general wrestling skill to be average that meant that Zayn didn’t do much for me here, so none of Zayn’s spots really hooked me. Owens is a very entertaining and compelling heel though. His constant trash talk and mockery of Zayn feels very genuine and fits in with his anxious and angry character. These two seemed very robotic at the start, slowly moving from spot to spot, but as the match went on they started putting together some more fluid and impactful sequences. It’s weird, because I did wish they actually gave more focus to the supposed massive rivalry between the two of them, but when they tried doing that like with the constant forearm strike trading sequences I just rolled my eyes because it felt like such a stereotypical ‘rival’ spot, plus both mens’ expressions made it look forced. I wanted more here but I’m not sure I’d even enjoy what ‘more’ they would offer, sadly. The finish was surprisingly and rather uncomfortably anti-climactic with Zayn unloading a lot of offence onto Owens only for Owens to hit a single super kick to set up the Pop-up Powerbomb for the victory, seemingly making Zayn’s previous offence almost immediately pointless. Overall this ended up having good flow and decent pacing. ***1/2"

[8.0] "So treffen sich also die früheren Partner Kevin Steen und El Generico das erste mal im Universum auf der großen Bühne. Die jetzigen Kevin Owens und Sami Zayn können mutmaßlich kein schlechtes Match gegeneinander zeigen und so ist auch dieses Aufeinandertreffen ein Großes. Dabei wird nicht der Platz auf der Card vergessen, sodass in der Tat auch noch Luft nach oben für mögliche Matches in der Zukunft bleibt."

[7.0] "A really fun match this. These guys tied in all of their previous matches really well and built to a pretty damn awesome finishing stretch. Despite them doing a TON of moves, this was great (***1/2)."

[8.0] "Meiner Meinung nach ein ein sehr starkes Match und vielleicht auf MotN. Kevin Owens und Sami Zayn haben gewohnt eine sehr gute In-Ring-Chemie miteinander und hier war es auch nicht anders. Man hat regelrecht mitgefiebert und die Emotionen auch regelrecht gefühlt. Es waren sehr schöne Spots dabei, die das Match aufrunden. Ich vergebe dem Match ****"

[8.0] "Eines der besten PPV-Matches in diesem Jahr und das erwartet starke Match zwischen diesen beiden. Owens vs. Zayn ist einer der besten Fehden in 2016 und die 2 sind nicht nur technisch herausragende Wrestler, sondern wissen auch noch, wie man eine Geschichte gut im Ring umsetzt. Der Sieg von Owens war für mich relativ überraschend, aber es war natürlich die vollkommen richtige Entscheidung, um die Fehde weiterhin heiß zu halten. Das Ende hätte man meiner Meinung nach aber anders gestalten müssen, da der Sieg für Owens meiner Meinung nach zu deutlich war und so Sami etwas zu geschwächt aus dem Match gegangen ist. Alles in allem aber das Match of the Night. ****"

[9.0] "Das war einfach nur wieder ein sehr gutes Singles Match zwischen den beiden. Kevin holte sich eine blutige Nase aber das störte ihm nicht. Nicht das letzte Mal zwischen den beiden die Saga wird weitergehen. Toller Opener (****). Nach dem Sieg von Kevin sah man auch wieder sehr gut wie unterhaltsam er am Mikro ist."

[8.0] "Schönes Match, das gut auf die Vergangenheit aufbaut und dabei nicht vergisst, die Card-Position einzuhalten und demnach auch im WWE Universum noch Platz nach oben zu lassen, womöglich für ein großes Stipulation Match beim SummerSlam. Diese Finish-Phase lässt einen einfach nur mitfiebern! Am Ende ist es eine kleine Aktion, die den Unteschied macht, 8 Punkte."

[8.0] "This match was intense as hell, you could feel the hatred throughout the match. Better than the clashes they had in NXT, although nothing compared to the matches they had in PWG & ROH, but hey, their WWE rivalry is still young. I'm looking forward to seeing more matches between the two, hopefully with more violent stipulations, people who haven't seen their indy feuds need to see how far they will go to destroy each other in a hardcore type match. ****"

[6.0] "Good, but far below their NXT performances! Watch their NXT Takeover match. I guess they still have to "connect" with the WWE PPV feel."

[8.0] "A great match though I think everyone knows they've still got more to show us. Had a great story and these obviously have great chemistry, I can't wait to see these go at it more. My rating ****"

[8.0] "Match of the Night. Really picked up pace at the end. Great feud and made it seem like both these guys wanted to beat the hell out of each other."

[8.0] "Das konnte gar nicht schief gehen, die beiden kennen sich zu gut. Ich habe es sehr genossen die beiden hier auf großer Bühne gegeneinander zu sehen, sie haben es sich verdient. Stark fand ich Szenen, als Owens den Tornado DDT von Zayn in den Backbreaker kontert und auch der DDT durch das Turnbuckle sah klasse aus, da Owens mal eben 1-2 Meter weiter rutscht. Ich freue mich auf ihr nächstes Match!"

[8.0] "Ein gutes Match und auch MotN. Für mich war das Match besser wie die beiden Matches, die sie bei NXT hatten. Die beiden haben zusammen einfach eine großartige Chemie und sie treten immer mit großer Leidenschaft gegeneinander an. Ein gutes Match mit der richtigen Länge und mit einem gutem Tempo."

[8.0] "Was soll denn die 1. Punk Wertung? Jeder ist stolz auf dich, dass du auch alle Indymatches der 2 gesehen hast und weißt, dass die alle vieeel besser waren. Sehr unterhaltsames Match des Abends."

[9.0] "This by itself was a fantastic match which at times felt like a real feud full of hatred between both guys, and I was happy to see that they treated this feud as such. Also, I love all the little things both men do, like all the expressions of hatred Owens gives Zayn, or the suplex onto the ropes spot where Zayn made it seem like it was the worst pain imaginable when he flipped high into the air, and nearly back into the center of the ring. Both men ruled in this match, it makes sense for Owens to win first because Zayn as a long term underdog is best. Fantastic match ****1/4"

[8.0] "While I have seen better matches from these two, and this was not a match of the year contender everyone wants from these guys, this is still a super fun match. The last 7 minutes was on par with the best wrestling WWE has put forward this year. That arm-drag DDT into the backbreaker reversal spot was amazing, and one of my favourite moments on the whole show. Easily recommended."

[8.0] "Das ist das erwartete gute Match zwischen Owens und Zayn. Zwar kommt es nicht ganz an die NXT Partien heran - kann aber dennoch sehr überzeugen. Für die 15 Minuten ist das wirklich gut. Das Match ist geprägt von vielen Kontern, sehr schönen Moves, netten Spots und guter Schlussphase. Die beiden hatten es nicht leicht nach der Verletzung im Opener - konnten jedoch das Publikum sofort wieder mitnehmen und stellen ein gutes Match auf die Beine. Das wird definitiv noch bis Extreme Rules gehen - darauf kann man sich freuen. Insgesamt ist das Match 8 Punkte wert."

[7.0] "Really good. Kind of got better at then end. These two are capable of much more. This was a good start of course."

[9.0] "Wirkte auf mich gezwungen persönlich dargestellt, obwohl der Großteil der Fans die NXT-Zeit nur aus Erzählungen kennt. Die beiden machen aber das Menschenmögliche, um den Fight schließlich auch im Ring die nötige Würze zu geben. Und tatsächlich springt auch bei mir irgendwann der Funke über: Das letzte Drittel war mal wieder eine Meisterleistung; der schon dutzende Male gesehene DDT am Pfosten vorbei wirkte besonders smooth, das Finale flüssig und glaubwürdig. Es war ein Träumchen."

[9.0] "So lange die WWE zwei solche Rohdiamanten hat, die trotz der Vorfälle im Opener die Hütte abreissen, muss man keine Angst um die Company haben. Nach einem guten Einführungsvideo nimmt man den beiden jederzeit die Rivalität. Es gibt schöne Action, harte Bumps, coole Konter und eine Menge Nearfalls. Auch das Publikum ist schnell in dem Match und startet den ein oder anderen Chant. Ganz starkes Match mit vielen innovativen Moves die man so von keinen anderen Workern bei der WWE sieht, dass mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat."

[8.0] "Schnörkellos, mit Intesität und Geschichte. Das Match macht Spaß kommt aber nicht ganz konsequent an die Drehzahlen der Paarungen bei NXT heran. Nach den Matches im Entwicklungs-Bereich und deren positiven Eindrücke, ist das hier aber eine totsichere Sache und ist äusserst kurzweilig. Man könnte fast davon ausgehen, dass Owens hier tatsächlich seine Nemesis abschüttelt, aber da die beiden auch im folgenden Titelmatch eine Rolle spielen, läuft das auf eine Fortsetzung mindestens bis Extreme Rules hinaus. Aber damit kann man leben."

[8.0] "Ihr ertses Singles Match aufeinander treffen im Main Roster und es war einfach der Wahnsinn. Krasse Nearfalls und geile Spots. Auch eine gute Storyline von ihrer Jugend bis Heute. Man hätte ihnen auch ruhig mehr zeit geben können aber die haben wir dann bei ihrem nächsten aufeinander treffen. (****)"

[9.0] "How many awesome matches are they doing? This seems a conclusion for their feud, with a clear ending and a huge impact made by those two. I can't compare it with the others, I can tell this match is spectacular and the crowd loved every second. ****1/4"

[9.0] "Das erste große Aufeinandertreffen im Main Roster der WWE für die beiden Ausnahmetalente aus Kanada. Sicher ist da noch weit mehr drin, aber was Intensität, Technik und Matchfluß angeht war das schon stark. ****1/2"

[8.0] "Klar kennt man die ewige Rivalität zwischen Owens/Steen und Zayn/Generico, aber da wurde mir das Match zu schwach gestaltet um es als riesen Rivalitäts Match zu sehen. Es war wie die 2 Takeover Matches einfach ein teil ihrer WWE zeit. Ich hoffe das bald mal ein episches Match zwischen beiden kommen wird welchem auch der größe der Rivalität gerecht wird und etwas mehr Story aufweist als "beide hassen sich einfach nur". Match ansich natürlich sehr stark, aber ohne riesen Storyline. Sie wirkte einfach nicht wie ein episches Rivalitätsmatch sondern wie ein übergangs Match für den IC Titel. ****"

[8.0] "Not their best match together, but their best in WWE/NXT so far. Didn't have the awesome finish of the NXT Rival match, but the bell-to-bell was better overall. Both guys are just fantastic at what they do, especially with each other to bounce off of. Made even better by their brawling during the following match. ****"

[8.0] "Also für 14+ min war das ein richtig gutes Match, aber mit dem falschen Sieger da Zayn eigentlich Payback an Owens ausüben sollte."

[10.0] "Loved this, thought it was fantastic. The intensity between them felt authentic and translated extremely well, and the story of Sami trying every trick in his playbook to take out Owens was really well told. Owens being able to take his best shots and continue barreling through, fueled by pettiness and hate, was a great framing device, and the action itself was superb. Sami may be the best worker in the world right now and as always he has great chemistry with Owens, this rivalry has been a great one for years and years and will continue to be!"

[9.0] "These guys practically stole the freaking show, amazing hard-fought match with emotion. This feud is the best feud in WWE right now and will always be hard to top."

[9.0] "Another masterpiece between those guys. Even if they have not had a feud, I would have admired this match. Everything was high quality, beautiful, intense and easily looked. People are hoping for a potential Five Star - do not think so flat. This is only the beginning, showing all the luxuries at once - for further matches will simply not interesting to watch. So wait, and remember - it is necessary to start small."

[8.0] "This was really good but not that great really. Some sequences were great especially the ending but Owens talking trash lasted a bit long and got boring for me and Zayn's intensity didn't come off well tbh. Good but not as great as one would think concerning the history between these two. (***1/2)"

[1.0] "I have seen most of the matches these 2 have had against each other in PWG, ROH & NXT, and as of now, this is by far the worst bout I have seen them have against each other. It was lacking intensity, there was no sense of urgency, no real storytelling, Owens working on top was just flat out boring... Yeah, this was bad. *"

[10.0] "Match des Abends. Das Match an sich kommt zwar nicht an Zayn vs Nakamura oder einige Indie-Matches der beiden ran (Ladder War bei RoH, Ladder bei PWG oder das "I hate your fckn guts! -Match"), aber mein Gott war ich gehyped und es haben sich all meine Erwartungen erfüllt. Wie weit die beiden zusammen gekommen sind ist irre. Props auch an die Videocutter der WWE. Das Match hatte viele unerwartete Spots und die Psychologie hätte kaum überzeugender sein können. Der gespielte Hass kommt so gut rüber wie seit HHH vs HBK nicht mehr. Einfach irre. ****1/2"

[9.0] "Incredible match with great back and forth action. Both guys looked like a million bucks. I wish Owens was booked to look like this every match because he was the star here. Zayn was also his usual phenomenal self. This was a great addition to their match collection and arguably better than their Takeover Rival match. Just really entertaining ****1/4"
