Bailey could get pretty boring to watch on the indies with a lot of copy-and-paste performances, but in a New Japan setting his matches feel structured A LOT better and his opponents make for top quality matches. 2626.05.2023arrancar7.0Bailey was good here, but TJP was *very* good, and in my opinion it was his equal efforts on both offence and defence that made the match as good as it was. It essentially followed a grappling-vs-striking structure, with both guys hitting lots of creative, speedy, and expertly timed counters and evasions back and forth, with both also still managing to show off their impressive stand-alone sequences and spots as well. There were still a few annoying Bailey-isms, like some really contrived set-ups for some of his bigger individual spots which, realistically, you'd have to imagine his opponent (in this case TJP) would've more easily avoided, but at least TJP always sold and bumped well for everything (at least as well as he could, given the somewhat unrealistic ways Bailey set up those particular big spots). Despite that, the majority of their interactions were still exciting enough to make this a really good match overall. ***1/2

Still falls victim to something I often notice with TJP matches where the match and moves are so nice, but the intensity never ramps up to the next level. Like, there's never a good finishing run in most singles TJP matches. It's really frustrating too, because he's so good, I wanna see more.
