[5.0] "Dull, boring, lame. Plagued by obvious booking, inept villains and Michael Cole. Why wouldn't Vince and the League of Nations just throw Roman back in the ring and eliminate him, instead of walking away maniacally laughing like a bond Villain. The actual wrestling is the match is above average for a rumble (which is a pretty low bar)"

[5.0] "It was a very dull rumble for majority of this match. It got a lot more fun in the final 7 or so, but the rest was pretty damn boring. The only things people will remember will be AJ's debut, title being on the line and Triple H final title win in WWE."

[7.0] "The best parts of the rumble are Brock vs the entire roster then the Wyatt family, and the debut of AJ Styles. When I mean the debut, that's all I mean, he had a pretty poor showing and should have a least made it to the final six, since there must have been a few who had never seen him perform before. Everything with Roman Reigns was obnoxious and desparate on the part of vince to make people like him but they still roared when he was eliminated. I am in agreeance that Ambrose should have won the rumble and for it not to be for the title. I suspect people loving this rumble certainly has something to do with the last two being disappointing. I watched neither of those live or this one either so it ends up feeling more dated."

[8.0] "Maybe it's just because the last two rumbles were so poor, but this was great! Super awesome line-up, with AJ Styles' debut, the Wyatts dominating, and Brock Lesnar on a hell of a run. Not to mention Triple H's shocking entrance. For me, there wasn't a dull part of this rumble (and there have been boring parts in previous years). This was kind of a banger Royal Rumble."

[7.0] "What a fun rumble match, this match will be remembered for the debut of AJ Styles and the world title being on the line. Sadly, this rumble suffers from having a bad winner. Dean Ambrose should've 100% won this match and not Triple H."
brooksavage2004 wrote on 16.10.2024:
[9.0] "Despite everything involving the Roman Vs Authority feud and another uninspiring winner in Triple H, this was one of the better royal rumble matches that has been in years at that time with the stakes being high with both the WWE World Title and WrestleMania main event spot being on the line at the same time, most of the wrestlers involved gave great performances with whatever storylines they all had and it had the fantastic WWE debut of AJ Styles. Really amazing royal rumble match."
thedr7q wrote on 12.09.2024:

Leth99 wrote on 10.09.2024:
[2.0] "AJ's debut is the only memorable GOOD thing about this match. The Roman-Authority stuff made me check out from anything else that was going on. I think only comedy guys should be out of the ring and not serious guys. Plus, as always was the case back then, this match was another way to screw Dean. New edit: rewatched recently and got completely confused at my rating. This match is BORING. The worst of WWE. The better their roster got, the worse their shows got. This was basically a recreation of the 1999 Rumble. the only difference is that Steve Austin is way better as a babyface than Roman and Vince is a way better heel than Hunter (but not a better wrestler). So, this match has to be under the 1999 rating. 2015 is actually more entertaining than this one"

"I don't know why this Rumble will always hold a special place in my heart. It's not perfect, and it only serves to continue the horrible storyline of Roman going against the Authority. However, despite its extreme stupidity, the arrival of Triple H and his victory are a great moment. The clash between the Wyatt Family and Brock Lesnar is very impactful, even if it led to nothing. And then there's the debut of AJ Styles, a small taste of the feud between Owens and Zayn and a great performance by Dean (snubbed again, but you know, Vinces booking). It has its flaws, but I will always like it. **** (Guys I am italian and I will do my best to update my rating as soon as I can)."

[5.0] "Let's see how much I remember from this match: abhorrent camera work, AJ Styles's debut where he looked like a star out of the gate, the extremely dumb spot with Roman getting beaten up by the League of Nations after being pulled *under* the ropes so that he could go away for half an hour, Kevin Owens underselling getting killed earlier in the night, a stupid Lesnar/Wyatt angle, Braun Strowman no-selling Lesnar's offense and getting shoot beaten up, Triple H crotch-chopping and yelling "motherf***er" at Roman which was honestly the best part of this entire match, the crowd getting super hot for Dean in the final 2 which forced WWE's hand to have those two do a match later on, and WWE desperately trying to get the Orlando crowd to hate Triple H even though it was in the same city where he'd been a huge babyface producing very good NXT shows. Yeah, 5/10 sounds about right."

[7.0] "theres just to much stuff that happens in this match honestly. The whole roman thing doesnt make sense at all. The point is to have him go up against 29 other men but in reality he has to go through like 12 because hes gone for half the match. Also we all know the rumble is where alot of mania matches/feud start and this year legit NONE of them that feel like it may have sparked something actually happens. Just looking at this and some of the eliminations and the way the eliminations acure it feels like we could have aj styles vs KO or KO vs Sami zayn. Neither of those happen. Why not just have jericho eliminate styles? Also it feels so so obvious that lesnar and bray is going to happen and that doesnt. Also feels like ambrose and jericho should happen. This rumble is literally just all over the place. But i still enjoy it every time i watch it for some reason. 4.25 stars mainly for how good it is from when triple h comes out till the end."

However, this Royal Rumble match is very good and shows a splendid fitness for Triple H. (7, 5/10)"

In a desperate effort to get the fans to care about Roman Reigns, they concocted this ridiculous storyline of him defending his title in this match. The surprise arrival of A.J. Styles was welcome here. But this match lost steam when Styles was eliminated. I could have done without Triple H winning at this stage in his career."

This had a strong roster, no real wasted spots, and it had a buzzworthy moment with AJ Styles making his surprise debut. It was cool to see guys like Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn also make their rumble debuts. I was legit surprised at Triple H winning at this stage of his career -- not sure how I feel about that but at least the crowd didn't bury it. Fun match overall. ***1/2"
Jacklist95 wrote on 18.01.2024:
[5.0] "Don't know exactly how this match is rated that high as it seems to encapsulate everything that was wrong on the booking of the rumbles between 2011 and 2017 : obsession on super-babyface (Cena and then Reigns), factions created just to be fed to your stars (League of Nations for Roman, Wyatt family to Lesnar and co - even if Lesnar gets kind of a come-uppance here) and heavy-reliance on old glories (Papa H coming back at 47 years to win, when you had Ambrose or Wyatt just there ... then to lose back to Roman at WM). Even the debut of AJ Styles is kind of anecdotic in this match, while the Sami/KO moment is cool but very very short. 5/10."

[2.0] "This match explain perfectly what went wrong with wwe in the late 2010"s. A souless match that did nothing beside shoving down to our throats even more that annoying and pretty cringe storyline between Roman Reigns and the Autority storyline who don't even make any sense. All the moment with Reigns getting destroyed just to gain sympathy with the fans never worked and doing this in the middle of the match was a reason why babyface big dog Roman never worked. And choosing a semi retired wrestler to win one of the biggest match of the year just to get the worst WM main event is another reason why I only gave a 3. (+2 for AJ Styles)"

This had a lot of cool stuff like AJs debut but felt a little too formulaic to have any truly wild moments."
nothingleftinside wrote on 25.12.2022:
[8.0] "Not my favorite rumble, but one of the better ones. The problems with this one are the almost comical over-focus on Roman Reigns (which ends up paying off), and the other set pieces taking a lot of time and everyone just freezing when someone comes out. This is most obvious when Lesnar comes out. Other than those gripes it's quite good. This is during the peak anti-Roman period, and the booking and coverage of him on screen is overwhelming. It's fun that WWE kinda flipped this around with the *other* guy they booked way too strongly and everyone hated, The final sequence is great and the payoff is huge, pushing this up to an 8 for me. Very full of recognizable stars, maybe the most unknown guy was Neville who comes out of this looking great. And this is AJ Style's WWE debut!"

[8.0] "After the bad reactions for the 2014 and the 2015 Royal Rumble, we needed a Rumble like this. After a weak Rumble in 2014 and a terrible Rumble in 2015, this one was really good. AJ Styles' debut in WWE, Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt (a storyline which never had an ending), Triple H's participation, everything works very well"

Reigns being taken out of the majority of the match was dumb but I did really like the run he went on after coming back out."
Prince Osborne wrote on 25.01.2022:
[8.0] "First of all, Reigns vs The Authority was a good story that had potential to become great but the push of Reigns during that period severely affected the plans with huge backlash. And, after the previous year's landslide, this was a very good rumble. AJ Styles as a "no-brainer" surprise lived up to the statement and his time spent here cemented more than enough to break through WWE on his own. Jericho, Owens, Ambrose & Ziggler (even though short) were my MVP picks of this match while HHH entering made sense by the story and the crowd was really ready for anything but Reigns that led to Hunter getting a huge pop. Kudos-uh! Jokes apart, the final two was a seat-edge thriller for sure with the storied veteran overcoming the fan-favorite and standing tall. 4.25 out of 5 stars!"

[7.0] "The most annoying thing about the match, and for which I can understand if many did not like it, are the different booking choices that involved too many, and, unnecessary interference. However, the match offers too many really exciting moments, the debut of AJ Styles, the final confrontation between the last 3 survivors, and the incredible performance of Brock Lesnar. An excellent match in terms of entertainment, an excellent order of entrances, and a high star-power."

I'm still contrived with that decision. With hindsight, I'm not sure if him winning was the best move, as I think him versus Ambrose would've made for a more interesting storyline, but they were dead set on trying to get Roman over. (***1/4)"

It goes on for an hour like these rumble matches usually do and the debut of AJ Styles is definitely the highlight in this. The other sorta memorable thing was Lesnar facing the Wyatts. The Reigns and HHH stuff feels flat, as Reigns even takes a break during the match."

R-Truth? s spot seemed kinda pointless. Overall, I thought Ambrose should have won, because I feel like Ambrose vs Reigns would have been a better match than HHH vs Roman. But either way, it? s still a great rumble. Recommended. ****1/2"

jcb9 wrote on 31.01.2018:
[5.0] "The obvious highlight is the debut of AJ Styles. Beyond that? Meh. Meh to Triple H winning, to yet another contrived Kofi Kingston Rumble spot (they were fun... before they did one every year for a million years in a row), and most of all, meh to the R-Truth ladder spot. A number of commentators have referred to that as a fun comedy spot, but... really? Where's the comedy? "LOLZ R TRUTH IS DUMB"? It accomplished nothing but to further bury R-Truth and it made no sense."
Betaxomega wrote on 22.07.2017:

Also, Triple H winning eliminating both Ambrose and Reigns just about showed that he by getting rid of Reigns and getting the title of him was far superior than rest of the roster none in the roster was able to do so, even when ganing up 4 on 1. Also, no throwback guys or surprise entrants bar AJ which made the match a real bummer."

This was one of the best surprise debuts in a Rumble match and probably in WWE. 2: R-Truth brings ladder to ring. This is pretty self explainatory. 3: Wyatts eliminate Brock. This would have been a great feud but WWE dropped the ball on it. 4: Triple H winning. This was good but hopefully he doesnt lose to Roman at 'Mania."

There was the odd lull period but as the be expected in such a long match, the final 10 or so minutes was very enjoyable and I have absolute no problem with HHH winning the title. My rating ***3/4"

[7.0] "Good rumble. The AJ/Owens/Zayn sequence was incredible. Funny comedy spot with R-Truth (the best part is that there was only one comedy spot this year). Kane and Big Show passed the torch of suck to Strowman. Not really interested in seeing Lesnar vs. Wyatt but that sequence was fine. What brought it down some was Reigns booking, I mean COME ON, if he was healthy enough to walk to the back then he was healthy enough to go back in the ring. The most scary thing is that Reigns is still getting booed, I think Ambrose being runner-up instead of Reigns was an audible so the crowd didn't shit on the finish."

[7.0] "It was a soild Rumble, that's about it. I was happy with the way it ended and still unhappy with a couple of things. First of all, the booking. Don't get me wrong, they got rid of all the past mistakes, but why not get Reigns back into the ring, so he can get eliminated? Why not attack all the others in the ring if you succesfully beat down Brock Lesnar? There were some more minor flaws, but whatever. AJ's debut turned kinda awkward after a while, but it's still amazing that he's with WWE now. But you know what really sucked: the lack of returning veterans or just alumni wrestlers and the lack of unusual action in the ring. However, the match had lots of entertaining and interesting moments, such as League Of Nations interference, Kofi and Miz slackering at ringside, R-Truth's gag, Sami and Kevin beating the crap out of each other, Brock's domination, Triple H's return. All in all, the Royal Rumble match was actually decent and definitely not a huge disappointment like the previous ones."

[4.0] "I have very mixed feelings on this match. There were a lot of things I liked, like AJ & Zayn showing up, the Wyatts working together, Lesnar doing his thing, Miz being hilarious, but there were also some things I really didn't like, and I'm not just talking about the winner. Triple H winning wasn't my first choice, but I understand it makes sense for the story they are trying to tell. What I really hated was the way they booked Roman throughout, first that LONG beatdown on the outside which basically told the fans that nothing in the ring mattered at all, because the only real story was Roman, and then the baffling decision by LON not to finish the job and eliminated Roman. Also totally bizarre was Roman popping on and off the stretcher multiple times while walking to the back, um Roman, if you can walk, get your ass back in the ring! Again, this sucked a ton of attention away from the actual match happening. I thought Roman's return was pretty poor too, a lot of superman punches which mostly missed by a mile and not a lot of substance, plus the fans didn't seem happy to see him anyway. And, while I don't necessarily hate Triple H as the winner, I did think he looked pretty bad physique-wise, and to see him engage in LOOOOOONG staredowns with Roman, trying to force an "epic" feeling, and spend time handing regular roster members their asses (though they did get a little shine back later in the match). So yeah, a lot of good but a lot of bad as well, the Roman narrative was really badly done in my opinion and dragged down the rest. Also kind of sad to see that AJ Styles and Sami Zayn were by FAR the most over people in the match, despite the fact that neither one was an actual roster member before the night began."

AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho were the showstealers, really a nice debut for The Phenomenal One. I don't like too much the winner's choice, a bit of a disappointment after a long fight. Minus one for the non-sense of R-Truth and the ladder. It made no sense at all."
