310.09.2025Yee I watch wrestlin9.0One of my absolute favorite g1 matches of all time. Both guys are at the top of there game during this time period and this is one of the best 50/50 matches you can possibly watch. Loved tana using the styles clash. What a dang match. (****3/4)

631.08.2025CoRdel10.0Absolutely tremendous, really. That match was brilliant, it's what wrestling is supposed to be. Damn smart match from both of them. The beginning was truly excellent, in terms of limb work and early offences. Then the match reached that special point of being phenomenal. Not many nearfalls and not many moves for an AJ Styles match, but it was still very dense and deep in terms of psychology, without being boring not a single second. AJ Styles stood tall against the Ace, they worked perfectly together. My favorite moment of the match was the sick kick out of Styles after being hit by his own finisher, Styles Clash performed by Tanahashi.

914.08.2025JapanStrongStyle24610.0Probably one of my favorite matches of all time. Both competitors showed up and showed out. Cant ask for much more than that! This is prime Styles.

1212.08.2025troman2210.0(9.75) I could see this being a 10 with another watch and better context as I move forward. Overall, I think that Tanahashi's face performance is excellent, him taking AJ's disrespect and constantly trying to throw it back to him, and AJ always seeming like he should have the upperhand, managing to underestimate Tanahashi just enough. Phenomenal match.
1309.08.2025HBKY2J10.0AJ Styles was just a win away from reaching his first G1 Climax Final. He was dominant in 2014 G1 Climax Tournament as well but that loss to Okada made the difference and he came up short. With 12 points and another chance to reach the final, he squares off against the Ace of NJPW, Hiroshi Tanahashi who also had 12 points. Now talking about the match you could feel the animosity and emotion from the get go. Tanahashi does excellent limbwork and Styles sells it perfectly and vice versa. Both successfully steal each others finishers even though Styles used to have that Frog Splash as a finisher back in TNA. The reversals and counters were intelligent especially from Tanahashi. Styles doing his best heelwork he could against the biggest face in NJPW made this even more exciting. The crowd was hot throughout but the last 10 minutes was another level. In the end, AJ's dream remained as such as he was on the receiving end of 2 High Fly Flows which were enough to send Tanahashi in the G1 Final. Great Story and a Great Match.

1530.07.2025HaShW7mpp10.0Absolutely amazing, wow this match is great. Tanahashi and Styles make a perfect match in the g1 . I love this game so much {*****}.
1621.07.2025Heartbreakkid200310.0I found god watching this match.... What an experience watching this for the first time ever. Two gods of wrestling working at their peak levels. An awe inspiring match this was fucking awesome. Certainly in the conversation for best singles match all time for either guy. This to me is pro wrestling at its very best. 4.75/5

2310.06.2025ApolloCarroway10.0One of my favorite Tanahashi and AJ matches. They have so many great ones but something about this one is amazing! The storytelling and psychology of both these guys is something that will be unlikely to be reached by 99% of wrestlers in the world and both showing why they have both earned places in the greatest of all time conversation. Neither of these guys held back and had an insane match. I have loved New Japan for years and each time I watch a Tanahashi match I am reminded why I love it each time.
2409.06.2025FelipeTalksGraps9.0[4.5*] One of the most intelligent and high-quality matches I have ever seen. If someone asked me what's the difference between selling & bumping and a good example of well executed selling, I'd show them this match. Both guys sold their knees phenomenally, wow. But not only was the selling good, the limb-work was fantastic too. Overall, this is a match for people with taste. It isn't the most thrilling match ever, it doesn't have the fastest pacing and the most nearfalls, but it's smart and has extraordinary fundamentals. I'm doing this AJ Styles watch with my friends so of course this wasn't the "most over" match on the call, specially if you compare it with Ibushi vs Nakamura for example which is the stiffest fireworks match ever so I'll still rewatch it alone later, but I already loved it this way.

4201.03.2025ReiEscobar10.0It will sound strange, maybe it's gonna be, but this might be one of the greatest matches of all time. Maybe not the best, the most spetacular, and for sure it's not the best when it comes to storytelling or ring skill, but this for sure figure out in the top, I don't have a single doubt about it. Twelve points each one, fighting for a place in the finals. The ace of TNA, leader of Bullet Club (thank god they didn't interfere here) and highly praised one of the best wrestlers of all time, facing the ace of NJPW, greatest babyface ever and highly praised one of the best wrestlers of all time. And this might sound even more strengh, but they NOT have good chemistry. They showed it in the previous facings, and it's completely understandable, the style of ring between both wrestlers is quite different. So, they fight in a way to NOT involve their chemistry, this match don't have a lot of reversals, don't have a lot of moves and sequences and spots, no. It's a match that perfectly happen time to time, everything in the correct way. And the end..the right one, of course. This is a five stars match for me, and one of the best matches ever. Everything was so perfectly executed here...
4324.02.2025epaff9.0The ace of New Japan vs the ace of TNA for many years. These two put on a barnburner and had tremendous chemistry. The type of match you're just happy exists. Where two of the best the world had to offer met each other in a match with stakes and a clean finish. 4.5 stars.

4831.01.2025mj260910.0Just saw this today. What an incredible match my god! The ending sequence of tanahashi catching the pele kick and transitioning it into a dragon-screw and then into a high fly flow was incredible.
4929.01.2025Geo939.0An excellent match between two of the best in the world, Hiroshi Tanahashi and AJ Styles. I loved the selling of the leg by Styles. These two had great chemistry together, with some hard-hitting and high flying action, with great reversals and back and forth. They didn't necessarily do anything new, but what they did all came together really well. Awesome.

6005.12.2024jesuissasha8.0There was almost no history between the two, only once they had faced off before the year before when Tana took the Heavyweight Championship belt off of AJ. When Styles came to WWE, few people realized what he was in for. Most had at best previously seen him in TNA and assumed that it was simply Vince deciding to pick up a career-ending veteran for the sake of popularity. However, Styles was extremely hot at that point. The match is recommended viewing for those who condescendingly chuckle at the phrase AJ had his move-set cut.

6405.11.2024JoeyBingBong10.0Beautiful, breathtaking match, possibly the finest of Styles' entire career and certainly, this pairing's strongest effort together. Their comfort with one another is obvious here, operating in effortless, silky smooth fashion. That slick work is never at the expense of the match's drama or intensity though, both of which are overwhelming at times. In that sense, it's a product of two all-time wrestling minds, placing each and every hit to utter perfection. The signature spots build seamlessly, each standing atop the last. Sumo Hall is electric at the first bell but by the final ten minutes, their response is intoxicating. There are bigger ideas beyond that broader feel, with duelling limb work being chief among those. Their familiarity is a theme also, halting familiar tunes and even playing a cover or two along the way. The result is a truly magical match, Styles' NJPW masterpiece. *****

6926.09.2024Chefi9.0I thought this was a great match to round off block A. Both men looked like they would die if they didn't win, and had great chemistry with Tanahashi even leaving his comfort zone to hit a low blow after AJ hit him with one. Great story telling by both guys.

7817.07.2024PNKRawk8.0I was recommended this match and it definitely did not disappoint. At first I was wondering why it was going so slow but in the second half the pace picked up and it started getting better and better. This is one of my first Tanahashi matches and I quite new to the way he wrestles. It was a slow but impactful & spontaneous style of a match I was left confused on what would happen next. A solid, unpredictable, but fun and exciting match. I loved the spot where AJ did the apron springboard moonsault reverse DDT. Watching a more agile and dynamic AJ is always a blast and I genuinely enjoy almost every match of his I watch. With all the high praise, I did go into this match with super high expectations but nonetheless, a great match and I would 100% recommend. [****.25]

8005.07.2024Kyle from TheMatchGuide8.0AJ Styles and Tanahashi may have just been New Japan's two best workers at the time, and they put on a classic G1 bout here, free of the bullet club interference that hurt some of AJ's matches during his NJPW run. The wrestling is smooth, and the low-blow shenanigans and finisher theft just add to the fun. 4.25 Stars.
8104.07.2024EyeSocketCrunch8.0Wasn't crazy about the whole thing but the chaotic, aggressive vibe it picks up about halfway through is really fun to watch and I love seeing Tanahashi hit Styles with a low blow and a Styles Clash.

9118.03.2024ISimon19128.0I can't find the gold that everyone sees in this match, personally I think it's too slow for a G1 Climax "semifinal", the first part of the match comes down to AJ and Tana exploiting their opponent's injuries and knees and then comes the ref bump , the most memorable thing is the Styles Clash applied by Ace (****1/4)
