As a concept, I thought it was original, risky, and opened up possibilities. Wrestling, in Bray Wyatt's eyes, was always the excuse for entertainment and to capture your attention. This, whatever it is, captured my attention. So, thumbs up."

I agree with the gimmick, but the ring work was passable at best. It still does suck knowing this was Bray's very last match on live TV."

Such a shame we never got to see the rest of Bray's vision for this. The Entrace was mesmerising the post match attack with Howdy was cool. I also think the Glow in the Dark looked pretty cool definitely not that bad of a visual like a lot make it out to be"

[6.0] "I think the reputation of this match is baffling. I remember watching it on the day and loving it for a number of reasons: it showed some new tech for Bray that looked great (the black light tattoos, the Uncle Howdy elbow post match) and it (and the feud it was attached to) helped elevate LA Knight directly to the main event scene. It was also easy, simple fun. That's all it clearly was supposed to be, especially once Mt. Dew rudely interjected itself into what was, at one point in time, one of the hottest rivalries WWE had going on. It's clear to me that WWE audience is typically allergic to anything that goes outside the boundaries of the traditional structure they're conditioned to. It's hardly a perfect match: the commentators constantly no-selling the action and in general being really annoying certainly don't help any, and the action itself is, while never bad, largely upstaged by the post-match beatdown. Not that it's all bad, either: Bray's over-the-top choke slam in the beginning was great. I think where most people get lost is when it becomes a walk and brawl with supernatural gimmickry shortly thereafter, which honestly surprises me since there's a huge and well executed table spot in the midst of it from LA Knight. LA Knight isn't completely outmatched by the gimmicks, either, brandishing a glow n the dark kendo stick at one point, which made me laugh pretty hard. I don't think you can rate this match without the entire post-match section, as they are clearly one and the same spectacle."

Bray looked fantastic with the black light facepaint (obviously slightly ruined but the mountain dew pitch black stuff) and LA Knight wasn't necessarily "squashed", although it was fairly one sided. Neon in general ruined it a bit but overall as a last broadcasted match for Bray Wyatt I think this deserves a better remembrance in hindsight"

It doesn't stand out, other than the lighting, which only distracted, it was another case of creative not knowing what to do with Bray, but not nearly as bad of a match as the ratings indicate."

But then he also has to accept the fact that I now only associate this match with rubbishy humbug. A black-light illuminated piece of trash of a match that pisses all the mysticism it aspires to against the wall by having it presented by Mountain Dew. It sounds like 'McDonald's Silence of the Lambs'. I just feel sorry for LA Knight that he has to go along with this nonsense. The match must feel a bit like tripping over the curb on an acid trip."

Of course, as many before me have said, the fact that this is a sponsorship match with a gimmick suited for kids and drunk college kids hurts a lot. It's very hard to take either of them or this feud seriously when it's just them fighting under a blacklight. But if you're able to put that all aside, this is a fine 5 minute match. Given the time, you can't expect more than that, but they deliver a serviceable encounter for what they were tasked with doing. Is this a suitable match to be called Bray's last? Not at all. But life was cruel to us in that way. However, I can't call it horrible either. Farewell to Bray, and thank you for the memories."

The debut of the piglike mask that was gonna be the new Fiend, Uncle Howdy jumping off the balcony and the puppets peering over the edge afterwards which was an awesome visual. This may have been just a marketing match but both men did what they needed to and Bray at least looked decent before he passed months later."

Their feud was bad, took ages to get to their blowoff match and it turned out to be a whole bunch of glow in the dark, Mountain Dew sponsorship nonsense squash match. Sacrificing a storyline for a few million from a sponsorship is not worth it, this is why product placement can ruin a match so badly."

That our last memory of him will not be the legendary characters and moments, it'll be a truly rubbish glow-in-the-dark corporately sponsored brawl where basically nothing happened, went five minutes after ten of build-up, and then they botched the finishing spooky-nonsense spot completely. Ugh. It's extraordinarily rare that a match can make me just despair like this, and yet this has achieved it. Bray, in his last appearance, jobbed to a logo."

I've heard a lot of negative things about this match, but I really enjoyed it. The lighting, the presentation, it was as unique as Wyatt himself which is really fitting. The action was nothing special, but that was okay. Bray Wyatt was one of my favorites, and it's very bittersweet that I was able to witness his final televised match live. I'm probably never going to watch this match again, partly out of fear that if I do, I'll ruin the good memories that I have associated to this match. I want to remember Bray's last work as good, and for now, that's how it is. I don't think it deserves the hate it gets at all, and I felt this way about the match even before Bray's passing."
SalvatoreVitale wrote on 22.07.2024:
[1.0] "This match is not good, and it's made worse by the silly stipulation that felt forced and ridiculous. The excessive advertisement and product placement for Mountain Dew overshadows the in-ring action, which is subpar at best and mostly takes place outside the ring. Fortunately, the match is short. It seemed like both competitors were uninterested, lacking any passion or emotion and it just came across as a blatant commercial disguised as something that fairly resembles pro wrestling. It's unfortunate that this turned out to be Bray Wyatt's last match before his passing, adding a sad note to an already baffling experience. This type of match is exactly what alienates potential new fans from the product and gives pro wrestling a bad reputation in the general public."

LA Knight was a bad choice for him to begin with, that's just not a good foil. But this match... it meant nothing, never mind the visuals which was interesting (but very hard to see), the fact this was barely 5 minutes probably because they couldn't see crap and it was just as stupid idea to start. Is Vince Russo in the back shouting out new match types?"

At its WORST this match was a mediocre brawl with a glow in the dark gimmick and some more of the late, great Bray Wyatts trademark spooky shenanigans. There are significantly worse and more insulting matches out there, ones that also drag for much longer than a measly 6 minutes. Between the sheer amount of talent between Bray and Knight, they indeed couldve had a better quality of match. But for what we ended up getting, this match is far from the dogshit that many seem to think it is. RIP Wyndham Rotunda."

There was some solid stuff here, but not much. While I very much enjoy both of these guys when it comes to promos and character work, I do also think that, when it comes to competing in the ring, they both strongly benefit from having an opponent that's a better pure wrestler than them. [0.0] "To call this the worst wrestling match I've ever seen, though it would be accurate, feels like an incomplete summation. The Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match was always going to be subject to ridicule given its nature as a sponsored gimmick match, no matter what action actually took place, and the match didn't do itself any favors. Paraphrasing Twitter user BackupHangman, this match was a proof of concept on Bray Wyatt's return to WWE. It didn't just need to serve the purpose of advancing a wrestling story, it needed to justify and reward months of teases, a hot return, and then months of vague nonsense and narrative stagnation. It needed to stay putting the pieces together of what exactly Bray Wyatt was bringing to the table for his second chance in WWE and get the wheels turning on... Whatever he had planned for Uncle Howdy. Instead, what transpired was five minutes of blacklight-drenched bewilderment. Like I said up top, I hesitate to evaluate or even describe it like I would a wrestling match. I was rooting for Bray Wyatt. I don't think he's a "creative genius" or any such thing, but I think he has unique sensibilities and pays unique attention to detail. That's what made The Fiend interesting to me, at least on paper. I understand that other people aren't interested in what he's offering, they want their wrestling shows to be about wrestling, and while I generally agree with that sentiment, Bray piques my curiosity pretty regularly, even though the follow-through will likely be bad. I was rooting for him to make a triumphant comeback and create something unique, the kind of take on wrestling only he could bring. But after an unforgettable return at the close of Extreme Rules 2022, he stagnated for months, never wrestling and barely enlightening the viewer to any more details surrounding his newest monstrous invention, Uncle Howdy. But it was all building to his first match back at the Rumble, we just had to be patient. I won't bother describing beat-for-beat the events of the match. If you're reading this, you're at least familiar with it. You know about the deep-sea fish face paint and the glow-in-the-dark confetti and the missed elbow drop. It lived up to the punchline folks were treating it as before it happened, and then some. Nothing was learned about the character or what he'd be doing or what themes would be explored in this story. It was a massive waste of time for every fan in attendance, every member of production staff who had a hand in bringing this to life, every performer involved in Wyatt's spooky puppet family, and, perhaps most damagingly, a waste of the time of LA Knight, who had been steadily getting over under Triple H's regime. I feared this build and match would damage him indelibly the same way Seth Rollins broke entirely after his terrible match with The Fiend, but he seems to have come out the other side still miraculously over. So at least it's not all literally the worst-case scenario. Just most of it."

Although strange, the lighting wasn't bad at all (way better than the red light) and Bray's look was cool and terrifying. I know this isn't for everybody but if it doesn't bury other wrestlers, I can cope with having a spot for this at some shows. I didn't get the sparks though."

Wyatt is a great performer and entertainer, but hes bang average in the ring, and his spooky character feels exposed whenever he steps into the ring and actually wrestles, which is you know, kind of important for a wrestler. Bray really needs to figure out how to effectively wrestle while maintaining his character, because this did him no favours."

I was pleased with the unique setting it had which almost satisfies the stipulation of being in a pitch-black atmosphere despite the annoying Mountain Dew commercials. Wyatt was dominant as hell bell-to-bell which is sensible whereas Knight served as a good foil in this story of Wyatt's supernatural return. The post-match angle was crazy on paper, but the execution went a bit wrong. However, my eyes didn't flinch from the interest I have on the aftermath. This could be polarizing but being a fan of Wyatt, I enjoyed it! 3 out of 5 stars!"

Bray Lore will continue on."

The stipulation was dumb and distracting but at least visually kind of cool to look at, and if you could somehow ignore it enough to focus on the actual wrestling I think the in-ring aspect was better than most of Bray's matches. Maybe it's just because Bray's other matches have lowered the bar so much for me, but I thought this was at least tolerable."

Although quite short, the bout featured good street fight action and a good post-match segment. The black-light visual was definitely the highlight, as WWE production delivers once again. I just can't get over that, of all the good talkers that they could have fed to Wyatt, they chose LA Knight. He had a good gig with MMM and id didn't really worth it at the end."

A neon nightmare, I'm sure this created backwards when the facepaint under the odd lighting was found and wanted to use it for a Bray thing. I mean it has to be the worst PPV match in a long time. First of all the match was called ''Pitch Black'' but it was just different lighting. Even Sin Cara's matches used to be darker than this. Also nothing happened in the match. Plus Uncle Howdy's appearance didn't made any sense. He just jumped on the dude that was already out. And he also missed it. I wasn't expecting anything about wrestling for this match but I wasn't entertained at all. Sorry but I don't even have one good thing to say about this match."
