Rip Morgan vs. Ron Simmons

[5.0] "This was an okay TV match, though hardly exciting. Simmions and Morgan worked the match fine, with both men doing a good job as a babyface and heel."

[5.0] "A decent opening match and the most competitive of the night. I was surprised with how competent Ron Simmons was here, considering he's in his earlier days in the business. Probably the most enjoyable Rip Morgan match I've seen."

[6.0] "A very decent TV match, probably the best you could possibly hope to get out of Rip Morgan. Simmons absolutely carried the match and did a very fine job, he was ready for a bigger push. If it were me, I would have put him in the Horsemen at this time."

[5.0] "Let's just say it was a passable match. It wasn't horrible to watch either, but I didn't think there was much of note in the game, apart from Simmons' Spinebuster at the end. [**1/2]"

[4.0] "Perfectly fine TV match for the era. JR and Tony do a very good job as always putting over the action. Great comment by JR talking about the damage to Simmons leg and why hes doing more ground work than usual. Morgan is quite boring in this match and hes a bit too big for a green Simmons do do much of anything interesting with. Mostly power moves (kicks, punches, forearms). The match has aged okay mostly due to the fact that Simmons lives up to what the commentary is saying about him. Without commentary a 3 but with a 4"

[5.0] "A fine first match for the NWA/WCW Ted Turner union. Ron Simmons shows his potential in the ring, but isn't quite there yet. Rip Morgan's offense was pretty boring to me, but he hit a decent clothesline. Match was not as long as posted time, assuming due to the TV edit."

[5.0] "This was the first official show under Ted Turner's ownership and this was the opening match. Simmons starts out fast and furious before Morgan gets the advantage for a bit. Then they wrestle around on the mat for a short time before Simmons makes a comeback. This match was pretty a pretty average studio match. Nothing more."
