Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

[8.0] "These two always worked so well together and this is no different. They begin with a handshake. Jeff is hesistant at first until HHH slaps him which fires him up and he eventually returns the favour. So we get more of a fight which is great storytelling. They have some good nearfalls at the end, don't overuse any finishers or anything, no finisher was hit in fact. Just a simple, great babyface vs babyface match with a shock ending with Jeff winning."

[5.0] "It takes a long time for the match to finally make sense psychologically, because for some reason Hardy isn't ambitious or aggressive enough and has to be challenged to a fight by Triple H first. While there's an ulterior motive behind this, it still doesn't make it entirely plausible, given that a shot at the big title is at stake. Technically, both wrestlers perform with professionalism, but fall short of their potential. The finish also comes out of nowhere and, despite the missed title opportunity, leaves Helmsley smiling, which doesn't fit at all with his otherwise fierce character. At times a solid match and even entertaining, but overall far too disjointed to be truly convincing."

[9.0] "This was a fun match. The intent was to push Jeff towards main event status and HHH helped accomplish that. Great finish"

[8.0] "First of all I love the beginning of this. Hardy is a little soft with Triple H as they're friends, but once Hunter delivers a slap that was probably heard outside of the building the whole dynamic changes. Jeff becomes more aggressive, he even gives HHH a slap of his own and Triple H starts to wrestle more like a heel. Hardy does a fantastic job here as an underdog, using his quick, impressively looking offense to get some advantage and its accompanied by the big reactions from the crowd and the finish is built up perfectly with not many people expecting it. A great job, I was invested in this from start to finish."

[6.0] "While this was a good match with a GREAT finish, I don't think it accomplished what it set out to do. Clearly, this match was supposed to establish Jeff as a main event contender, but I don't think it quite got there. The beginning of the match built the story nicely. Jeff hesitant to fight a friend, with Triple H essentially telling him "you can't be nice if you're gonna make it to the top, " which fires Jeff up. But after that, they seem to just drop this. The middle of the match drags quite a bit, and it's just both of them kind of doing their staple stuff you'd expect. Jeff wasn't being portrayed as if he was overly resilient and kicking and clawing his way to beat Triple H, but Triple H wasn't playing his normal ruthless brutal heel persona here either. So it didn't feel like Jeff was overcoming a massive challenge, either. The finish was fantastic, but it would have had more impact if Jeff had been beaten down more and felt like he was at the end of his rope. For sure, this was still a good match, but I just think it missed the mark on what it set out to do. I don't think Jeff came out of this match looking much better than he did going into it."

[5.0] "I mean I guess it was alright. It's nice to see a Triple H match that's not a total slugfest and he played the grizzled veteran heel very well but the match never seemed to get past second gear. It didn't have the intensity and aggression of a good Triple H match and neither the excitement and entertainment of a good Jeff Hardy match. It was on this weird half-baked wavelength. Seemed more like a Raw match than a big PPV match."

[9.0] "I really enjoyed this match and thought it was the best encounter these guys had. Triple H was a babyface but acted like the heel with good offence and Hardy's fightbacks were great with the surprise ending showing Hardy had brains now."

[7.0] "Jeff Hardy vs Triple H in one of the biggest match in Jeff's career. This isn't a classic but it's a relevant match to give Hardy a main event status in the end of 2007. HHH is the stronger wrestler, but Hardy proves he can beat him and get a WWE title shot. Also the match is enjoyable. ***1/2"
