[9.0] "This was just a pure chaos tag team wrestling match between two great teams. Both teams just destroyed each other. Ngl, I liked their Wrestledream tag match a year later a bit more, but this was still amazing to watch."
[8.0] "[****] A really great tag-team match that had me hooked from the opening exchange. I always think that tag wrestling is such an undervalued art form and this was a shining example of it. FTR did what they do best in building a believable base that helps their opponents look like all timers. Mark Davis is a personal favourite of mine and seeing him look like a beast here really made me happy. Kyle Fletcher showcased some of the qualities that see him rising to the spot where he is now. When he slapped Davis to fire him up and stop him from tapping had me feeling amped."
[10.0] "The greatest match I have ever seen live, this match made me a fan of Aussie open and FTR for life. A match that doesn't overstay it welcome, it's a true example of how tag team wrestling can be one of the greatest forms of wrestling out there. Throughout the match, there are many close falls which had me at the edge of my seat and by the final 10 minutes the entire audience was standing in anticipation of who would get the decisive blow to end the match. This truly is a hidden gem and I would recommend this match without question and try to watch it as soon as possible!"
[10.0] "After everyone else, I've finally managed to watch this gem. The melodrama side of FTR functioned pretty well with the madness of Aussie Open. For sure, it was a love letter to tag-team wrestling, but what I have clearly enjoying throughout the contest is all the combinations they've displayed, but also all the pinfall saves, some rather ingenious. Old school against new school. I had reminiscences of old south rasslin through the combinations of Harwood and Wheeler and the selling and reactions of Davis and Fletcher. The dudes were ruthless as hell, were almost cheating at some moments, but they surely had respect for their opponents despite everything. A detail in this bout changed everything in its course. The blur between the face and heel works was also something I found interesting. All four men could have done anything to gain the victory. At this (high) stake, the notions of good and bad meant certainly nothing. It was labelled as a dream match, and they've surely showed why it was a dream match indeed. Every pairing worked, and I've enjoyed a lot David and Harwood beating the living hell out of each other, while Fletcher and Wheeler were great will-o'-the-wisps. The psychology, the selling, the atmosphere... everything worked, and it's rare for me these days to feel this embarked in a wrestling bout. The last ten minutes were completely, littered with superb nearfalls, mirror spots, and just the drama overall. Aussie Open worked well to isolate their opponents from each other, as this was occasion for them to showcase their great fire. In the last moments of the match, Aussie Open also displayed some great fighting spirit. Both teams' strategies were also things of beauty, like this was clearly a pro-wrestling war, not simply a bout for the IWGP Tag Team titles. Your honour, your body, your soul are also on the line. The bout's realism also added a lot into this contest, as it's FTR's trademark, but AO embraced that feeling with ease. The crowd's standing ovation during the bout -- I think at the half of it -- told everything : the fans were witnessing something majestic, something you're witnessing once in a lifetime : the pure beauty of pro-wrestling and its magic. What a fantastic fight. It's difficult to express everything I liked about this contest, you have to experience it yourself. It's tag-team wrestling at its finest, but also an ode to how built a perfect (and emotional) pro-wrestling bout. Pro-wrestling can be that cool, yeah."
[7.0] "Looking back, wrestling fans as a whole really took tag team wrestling for granted. 2022 is littered with fantastic tag team matches and this is one of the better ones. In hindsight you could always say that there was something special about Fletcher but this match really highlighted it. Kyle was relentless throughout the match and unlike most of the other tag matches Aussie Open was having during this run, they were actually trying to win here which really amplified their best qualities as a tag team. While I don't quite think this is one the level of the very best wrestling 2022 had to offer, I don't echo the concerns of those who had rated this lower than the average either. Nowhere did I feel like the match was dragging. Production and commentary problems, sure, it comes with the territory but the match was paced extremely well. Messy at times but it only added to the feeling."
[9.0] "[4.75 Stars] A superb match between the 2 best teams of the year 2022, the match was too good but I sincerely still think they're capable of doing better. The match at Wrestledream was cool but not as good as this one. (****, 75)"
[9.0] "The best match on the card, and the match I was most excited for, I was not disappointed, it was more of an FTR match than a Aussie Open match, and unfortunately they did not get to do their style as much, but it still was amazing. ****3/4"
[10.0] "Amazing tag team wrestling. FTR and Aussie Open had good chemistry. The phycology was great. The in-ring storytelling was very good. Both teams using very good tactics to get the crowd very invested in the match. Dax and Davis chopping each other and start bleeding on the chest early on in the match. Very good pacing in the match. The kickouts made the match dramatic in a good way. The crowd was hot and the standing ovation very good."
[10.0] "One of my favourite tag matches I've ever watched. Hard-hitting, amazing psychology and a great crowd. Doesn't rely heavily on insane spots or over the top selling but more so on the psychology with both teams being ruthless and smart, with the match being so well done that some of it is the closest to 'real' wrestling seen in years in term of psychology and selling of hits along. Legit match, 10/10 and man, I miss Aussie Open."
[10.0] "one of my favorite tag matches of all time. Its so beautiful done by both teams. The finish is my favorite part it was incredible. Such a silky smooth match bell to bell. 5 stars"
[6.0] "This match boasts quite a reputation, particularly as a tag classic, and while it's solid, I'm not sure said reputation is deserved. FTR looks kinda sloppy in this match, but Aussie Open is at its best here. The production leaves a bit to be desired, but the trade-off is; that this match is really made by the UK crowd. Also, it's much too long. Lots of good stuff littered in here, but this one is overrated. 3.25 Stars."
[10.0] "A pure pro wrestling match. This had everything a tag team match should have. For me, this was better than FTR's previous matches with The Briscoes. Best tag team match of 2022. *****"
[9.0] "Huge match with some good ideas in the last 10 minutes. The match took a little while to really get me into it but after that I was into it. (4*3/4)"
[10.0] "This match was awesome. Today 'll se the chapter II but I don't think it 'll reach this level. Just a classic tag team match with everything you could axpect from lots of kickouts to good spots to incredible drama. The 30 minutes never felt too much and it wasn't generic at all. Awesome. *****"
[8.0] "Given this match's reputation I was expecting something more than what we got, but this was still a great tag match. Fletcher & Davis playing as cocky heels compared to FTR's clean characters gave this a fun dynamic. Aussie Open preventing Cash from tagging in Dax for a long time was my favorite part from the whole match. This makes Dax's hot tag feel earned when he finally made it and I loved the fact that Cash was still fighting to tag Dax in. Their big bomb exchanges toward the end was but wasn't really anything groundbreaking for me other than seeing some color. Also as expected the UK crowd was great here.****"
[9.0] "Another banger by FTR, not quite on the level of their encounters against the Briscoes but still really really well done. Loved the blood in the match, something fairly unique about this bout it is not common seing cuts in a tag team match. The chemistry between the two teams was outstanding, and the final 15 minutes were really amazing. ****1/2"
[8.0] "Great match. Shitty presentation, a lot of shaky camera work at ringside. Hot crowd! The spot where Fletcher slaps Davis over & over so he won't tap out was amazing."
[8.0] "Excellent tag match. Aussie Open play perfect foils to FTR here. Crowd really gets into this the longer it goes. On par with the second FTR-Briscoes match but not quite as good as the first. A must see match."
[9.0] "This was an excellent match and easily Aussie Open's best match ever. These two great teams showed great chemistry and the match was filled with plenty of dramatic moments. The action was excellent, the pacing was great, structure of the match was well laid out and executed well. There were a few rough moments but overall, it didn't really do much to sour my experience. ****3/4"
[9.0] "This has been a dream match for many ever since the Forbidden Door concept was initiated. The path was set simple for these two to compete & they did the right thing as expected. The layering of this bout was as usual as NJPW's main events - longer duration with great essence of action & storytelling. Both teams created the spark, burnt the house down & took nothing but respect with some grudge inside for a rematch down the road. There were moments that felt the prolonged nature of the match, but the positives outweighed the negatives easily. Harwood & Davis were buffed up with showcases of strength during their interactions which felt so authentic. Aussie Open's avoidance of Harwood for a brief period was a beautiful display of intelligence and if they haven't stood out as one of the must-see teams for some, this is where it happened for those. As much as I would love to see them go at it once again, the hype must be as hectic as it had here. That'll serve the purpose right for Round Two. 4.5 out of 5 stars!"
[10.0] "I was almost checked out of the show looking at my phone at this point, but these four men drew me back in. What an amazing match, every spot was placed perfectly to build peaks and valleys of momentum, even the times where they got busted open were well placed. One of the greatest matches I've ever seen, with lots of great teamwork spots. I highly recommend this match."
[9.0] "Fantastic match with an interesting structure and lots of twists and turns. I really loved how FTR (Dax in particular) made Mark Davis look like a threat in this match, and the organic rivalry that built between him and Dax over the course of the contest. There were a lot of moments where they took tropes and tweaked them a bit to make them work, even just with things like how the exhausted strike trading between Dax and Davis on their knees felt earned instead of forced. If I'm nitpicking there are a few things that didn't quite work for me. The double pin spot where the ref had to randomly restart one of his counts was weird, and the double forearm trading spot near the end was a bit too corny for me. I also thought that Aussie Open could have done more to cement themselves as heels - there were some great moments where Davis seemed like a real bully, and I think more like that would have been great - but overall this was a great match and definitely one of my favourite bouts of 2022."
[10.0] "This is one of the best tag matches ever. Can? t get enough. Rewatched multiple times. FTR are good, Aussie Open are great and this is going to be 6 * in the dome."
[9.0] "I saw a positive review of this match on twitter and so I decided to watch it despite the fact I don? t usually watch much Njpw, I? m glad I decided to watch it because I genuinely think that this was better than FTR vs The Briscoes in Roh. This match also made me realise how good Aussie open are as a tag team because up until I watched this I had only seen them in trios with Ospreay"
[9.0] "This is an emotional bomb. Not trivial and just a professional match for a generation. FTR continues to strengthen the legacy this year and such content contributes to this. Tough combinations, beautiful sequences, ambitious tactics and a love of realism and scenario perfectionistic constructions in history. The match was very interesting in terms of sports and entertainment. There was everything for which we gather in the halls and support the wrestlers. A lot of people will like the match and in 30 minutes the fight has not lost its vibe and relevance at all, they went for a break and the screams of the fans inspired new exploits. Watch such matches in large companies of friends and pizza."
"Good fucking tag team wrestlin', FTR delivered a great match from start to finish and Aussie Open matched them at every step along the way. Great spots all around and overall just a wonder to watch, had i been sitting im sure i would have been at the edge of my seat the hole way through. ****1/2"
[8.0] "This was very good but there was a little bit too much fat on it to make me really love it. I am never a huge fan of stereo moves but I did really enjoy Fletcher slapping Davies while they were in a joint Sharpshooter. It is great to finally see Aussie Open having their coming out party having been watching them on the British indie scene since they first came over. A word for how great the commentary was from Kevin Kelly and Chris Charlton, they added so much to it and still remain the best team around."
"This was an incredible match from the best two tag teams of 2022. I had been anticipating this one since the two teams were part of a trios match when NJPW came to Nashville, and it totally delivered. The double sharpshooter spot put this match over the top for me, and I ended up going the full five stars. The scary part is, they may have an even better match in them. (*****)"
[8.0] "This was an excellent match, though I didn't think it was as good as others seem to. FTR is definitely super hot right now and Aussie Open did well. The blood spots were cool with me. Some spots seemed cheesy to me, like Fletcher slapping Davis to make him... not tap out? But sure, why not."
[6.0] "A pleasant main event, with a classical heel against face dynamic, but weird building, and I was not invested in this epic tag team thing. 3, 25*"
[8.0] "Satisfyingly hard hitting with plenty of fun tandem offense from both sides. Points docked due to some mistimed moves, especially some crucial ones. Crowd was on fire the entire time but it felt like I was watching a different match at certain points. Very entertaining, but short of a classic."
[10.0] "Nothing can be said that hasn't. This was all of heavyweight trash team wrestling and the kitchen sink with solid pacing that was rarely dull over 32 minutes but felt like a war of attrition. The only real negative I can say is that Unno was not in a good position for like half the match. I don't think I would put this on par with the FTR/Briscoes matches but the bloody strike exchange into the Sharpshooter spot onwards really puts it close. Still worth a 10 and ****1/2 to ****3/4"
[9.0] "Great match I just have to agree with many that when you put it up against the briscoe vs ftr matches and if those are 10s then this has to be a bit lower. One other thing is damn were those lights in the corner bright. They distracted me a lot. Idk."
[5.0] "Definition of fine. They want through the checklist of ? epic tag team matches? but this never got going. AO worked heel, but never got any heat on them. The double pin botch was so atrocious I? m taking off a point for it."
[6.0] "Cool match, not as high on it as others but it was definitely fun with a lot of unique spots. The blood felt a bit forced and it probably didn't need to go 30+ minutes - ***1/4"
[6.0] "A classic heel vs face dynamic. AO being ruthless with dangerous offense, even cheating and FTR trying their best to keep up in the NJPW style, the blood helped that role"
"Without a doubt the best match I? ve ever seen live and now with Royal Quest uploaded to NJPW I can say it holds up on a review. FTR continues to prove why they are the best tag team in the world right now and the growth not only in Mark Davis but Kyle Fletcher is incredible to see. It? s a fast paced, hard hitting match that goes the typical NJPW length distance. It? s not picture perfect but the crowd more than make up for it giving it as much energy as they can."
[9.0] "What a match, two of the best teams in the world right now, the crowd was an important part of it as well, UK always have the best crowd. Good chemistry and awesome team work that always had a purpose in the match, that's what I enjoyed the most."
[10.0] "Absolute masterpiece. When someone asks me to show them true tag team wrestling, this is what I would recommend to them. Absolutely incredible storytelling, pacing, and move quality. Match of the Year candidate for sure. 10/10"
[9.0] "****½ - FTR has banger after banger usually, and this is just that, a banger. I'm very high on aussie Open and ftr is the best Tag Team in the world, and it delivered"
[9.0] "Great match. Definitely lived up to the hype. I would not put this above the matches with the Briscoes this year, but we are splitting hairs. FTR have be without a doubt the best tag team of 2022. This was also a career defining match for Aussie Open. Kyle Fletcher to me was the stand out in this match. I would love to see Aussie Open win the Tag League and NJPW run FTR vs Aussie Open at the Tokyo Dome."
[10.0] "Lived up to the epic hype, but far from perfect. Longer stretch of heat on Cash in the middle, and the sequences had some hiccups. Loved the brutal showdowns though, especially with Dax and Davis. Felt like a brutal road warrior title defence."
[8.0] "I feel like Aussie Open still needs some seasoning after watching this one, but a really good match nonetheless. The finishing sequence in the last minute was fantastic"
[7.0] "I finally get to see this immensely praised, supposed 'classic'. The verdict? It was really good. That's it. I obviously enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near being one of the best NJPW tag matches ever, let alone one of the greatest tag matches ever. It was totally designed to be a forced 'epic', which definitely left me with a sour taste at points because so much of what both teams were doing didn't feel truly necessary or earned, more just like they were showing off the various "cool" and "deep storytelling" things they could do just for the sake of it. Aussie Open had a strong contingent of fans in the building, but FTR were far more heavily over, allowing Fletcher and Davis to play the arrogant heels while Dax and Cash played the badass babyfaces. FTR had their enjoyable old-school and methodical brawling approach, with everything looking snug, physical, and aggressive. Aussie Open were likewise very aggressive and physical, though they were far more arrogant with their work to play up their heel side. I liked the general story of the first half as Aussie Open were cheap but intelligent as they constantly interfered to save each other and to keep Dax and Cash isolated from each other. This extended heel-heat segment was good, but they got way too cute too many times with teasing the "will they, won't they" of whether Cash could break away from his beatdown and tag out to Dax, and the segment itself also just lasted too long without varying things up enough to remain fully engaging. I have to give props to what great impact and technique everyone had with their strikes and power moves, especially FTR, who lay in all their attacks with immense nastiness. Unfortunately, when it came to their faster-paced exchanges the teams would occasionally look a bit awkward because they'd either get caught up in each other's bodies while trying to move into position for whatever spot/exchange was up next, or they'd stupidly stand around doing nothing, just waiting to be hit in the next spot (Davis and Fletcher were usually the culprits of these 2 issues). Dax's eventual hot tag was fun, though I've never been *that* big on FTR's hot tags because of how generic they always are, even if that's intentional because they're "old-school" and all that. The match started becoming overkill and a bit goofy with how much "epic" stuff they shoved in, like the dorky and unrealistic mirror spots between and within the teams, the half-accidental belt shot to Cash, Cash surviving one of Aussie Open's tag finishers, Fletcher melodramatically holding Davis back from tapping and slapping him to 'fire' him up while both were in Sharpshooters, Aussie Open stealing the Big Rig for a near fall, and just all their last-second pin break-ups. It just felt too try-hard and turned me off quite a bit. Still a consistently really good match, though it never had any peaks of true greatness. ***1/2"
[7.0] "An overall Good Match that had it's brilliance in it at a couple points especially those last 3 minutes. However the extended heat in the first half really took me out of it, I thought that was a bold choice & it did not work for me. Looking at the whole match in parts it seems great but the transitions into different points were disjointed and somewhat sloppy. The overall length wasn't a problem for me like it is for some it just did not flow as well as it could have. In the end this was not as good as the internet hyped it up to be imo."
