[6.0] "The big first part of the match is really average and not so interesting but it gets a bit better at the end with this little striking segment. Monsoon retaliated and the crowd was behind him but Patera knocked him out with a foreign object. Like most of Patera's matches, the best thing here is the storytelling. I like the fact that he is already involved in two big controversies. First, he won the Intercontinental title by pinning Patterson with his foot on the rope, and now he sent Gorilla Monsoon into retirement by using a weapon. Perfect for his character."

[5.0] "Gorilla Monsoon put his career on the line for a shot at Patera's Intercontinental Championship. This began with an enjoyable Gorilla opening shine, where Patera was more than happy to bump and beg for the aging old-timer. Gorilla's shine was cut off by a good ol' nut shot that somehow didn't warrant a DQ! This put Patera in the driver's seat, thus beginning a quality control segment that saw Patera going to town on Monsoon's neck before busting him up using the ring post. Monsoon used his last surge of energy to mount a comeback, locking in the bear hug, only for Patera to break it by jamming the cut. The ref injected himself to check on Gorilla, allowing Patera to prep a foreign object and hit Monsoon with it to end his career. No wonder Monsoon was so critical of WWF referees during his announcer run. They're literally the reason why his wrestling career came to an end! This was basic stuff, but it told a strong story and put Patera over huge. [**1/2]"
