[8.0] "This trios match was great fun. These 6 man killed it here. I will say some things looked really choreographed, like the double hurricanrana, yeah, that looked and was extremely stupid. The chops to Ospreay were freaking loud and stiff as shit. Also, there were moments where it started picking up, but they slowed down the momentum, which is hate in matches."
[10.0] "Awesome trios tag team match from United Empire and Death Triangle. There was amazing sequences and spots in this match. All 6 guys got to shine in this match. Very good tag team wrestling from both sides as well. Excellent performances from each wrestler in this match."
[4.0] "This is a very good example of how highlights doesn't reflect at all on what was the match... if you only watch the beginning sequence, a little sequence there between Ospreay and PAC, and the Ospreay landing after the top rope hurricanrana by Fenix, this goes down as a great match, because those specific moments are very good, but it definitely wasn't a great match. I didn't remembered this was so long, it's truly a painful watch, I don't know how a match can be so fast and with so many moves, and at the same time look like absolutely nothing happened and have several boring moments. This was messy as hell, and even Ospreay seems to think this one wasn't that good, as he said on the CVV podcast. That ending with Kip Sabian and PAC was really bad, and even though the referee was looking at Fenix, it sounded pretty dumb. Not the worst thing ever but definitely don't have a lot of value... I'm giving those points because of some great isolated spots and the fine chemistry between Ospreay and PAC - {*3/4}"
[8.0] "[4.25*] I miss the trios tournament but especially United Empire's participation in it, Ospreay did the best spots of the match while Fletcher and Davis did the old school tag work, wonderfully. United Empire's matchup with Death Triangle is very interesting. I expected something more from this match, it was good of course but it took a long time to have more frenetic action, as expected from a match involving Ospreay against two of the best luchadores in the world. The final sequence is very good."
[8.0] "It's not a 5 star match or even close, but it was still a highly entertaining and very athletic contest, it could have been at that 4.75 level if they got rid of the deadwood and tightened up the spots. I don't want to see people standing there for 20 secs waiting to be dived on or the referee being a spineless coward not enforcing rules when wrestlers illegally enter the ring and stay there for a minute attacking their opponent. I am conflicted because there were many times I was amazed by some of the sequences and the crowd were excited especially for Ospreay v Pac but it is frustrating that AEW can't tighten up their multi man tag matches."
[9.0] "Amazing match: both teams delivered awesome perfomances and the action was breathtaking and exciting with lots of crazy spots and sequences. Fenix and Ospreay's exchanges were all incredible as well as Aussie Open and Lucha Bros exchanges. The double poison 'rana wasn't super clean but Ospreay and Pac looking at each other face to face was very cool. The only thing that stops from giving five stars was the pacing: the match it's 25 minutes long and there were 3 commercial breaks where the wrestlers basically did nothing and that ruined the action. I even liked the ending, unlike a lot of people, because I'm a fan of Kip Sabian and it didn't bother me. 9/10 - 4.75*/5*"
[9.0] "Well, it looks like that lots of people seen the highlights and thought: Oh God, this is 5*/DUD. Well, instead of talking about the Flippy Shit and all the choreographed spots (that I love, it's surely my cup of tea) can we realize that this encounter also featured some slow moments that really shouldn't exist in a pure spotfest? Anyway sometimes the action was just great and I could have given this match the 5* despite some little flaws but hey, overbooked ending from out of nowhere to fucking up this Dream Match! This match isn't such crazy as someone says, for example the last Death Triangle vs Elite match is the series of gymnasticks this match should have been (and it's five stars in my book). ****1/2"
[7.0] "This was a good match. Fenix is the standout of death Triangle and him and Ospreay have great chemistry. This match is good but certainly not 5 stars. Pretty good action though. Finish was bit weird and that whole Kip Sabian felt out of place and really didn't need to happen. And the actual finish felt pretty rushed. Some great near falls and cool acrobatics though. It slowed down in the middle which did hurt the match a lot."
[2.0] "This is more similar to gymnastics in Olympics to wrestling in Olympics and that is a bad thing. Wrestling is about technical, not about who jump higher."
[7.0] "This is one of those matches where you could easily justify a low rating. It's a big spotfest with zero rules, very little psychology, questionable selling, and contrived moves. I think there was enough athleticism and creativity for me personally to be far more positive than negative though. To say that there was absolutely no selling at all would be inaccurate, as these guys did sell but there were a lot of choreographed sequences and long-term selling was nonexistent. I have to give major props to Rey Fenix, a talented wrestler who I soured on recently due to bad matches alongside Penta, but here he was game. He reminded me why I liked him so much in 2019. His offense looked great. Will Ospreay was undoubtedly the best wrestler here, as all of his strikes and big spots were tremendously well-executed. I'll go over a few things I took note of. Ospreay and Fenix started with a choreographed routine that was easily the worst thing either guy did in the match. Death Triangle's heat segment on Ospreay was surprisingly very good. United Empire took control with some great looking moves but had a so-so control segment. Aussie Open should ditch the forearm spot because that looked horrible. Fenix tightrope running into a kick on Ospreay while PAC had him in the German position looked so good. The double poisonrana spot looked incredibly stupid on the other hand. This was the point in the match where each great move/sequence had a silly/contrived one. PAC's avalanche brainbuster was incredible, but why is Fletcher giving one to Fenix on the floor during the ad break. Fenix's spin kick and cutter to Ospreay was cool, but it happened while PAC was obviously waiting for his spot like he was made out of stone for like 25 seconds. He did that again a minute later as he took 28 seconds to do a blind moonsault. This was right before a truly awful finish involving Kip and the flattest 3-count you could've done. ***1/2"
[9.0] "What can I say. All a dream trios match between these two teams. Moves, storylines, and a pretty great performance. Thank you Ospreay and Aussie. [****1/2]"
[7.0] "Good match but it felt like it was missing something. More of a spot fest than a match but at least the spots in this one did look good and clean. All six men are good in the ring with exciting movesets. Finish with Sabian attacking Pac was a little much that the ref did not see anything."
[4.0] "It's not always necessary to have great selling, psychology or storytelling in order to have a good to great match. However, there are times that the lack of it is just too much, and this felt like one of those times for me. Everyone involved performed well, yet the match felt empty for the most of it. They just did moves: a lot of repetivite moves that one will easily forget as soon as the match is over."
[10.0] "This was beautiful match. These three guys just giving us one of the greatest mach of the year. I watched this match multiple times and every time it's beautiful."
[6.0] "An Overrated Match. This Type of SpotFest Wrestling is very ridiculous. We wasn't watch Hit And Any Type of that. Just Flying and Made A Sequence - Without Any Sign of Drama-"
[7.0] "This was mostly pretty fun but the stalling did get a bit much towards the end, especially with them having to slow down the set-ups for spots to allow for ad breaks to finish. The Sabian stuff was a waste of time, and by that I mean the entire boxhead thing. I was sure going back to the start of this whole thing that it would be someone else under the box when it was revealed, but I was expecting a debut. Instead Sabian just pissed away any relevence he may have had by keeping his face off of TV and the commentators didn't even acknowledge it was him until recently. I thought he'd maybe want to get back at Miro too, seeing as he's the guy who is meant to have put him on the shelf for so long. One of the dumbest angles in a while which in some small way dragged this match down. Other than that, an entertaining fast-paced match."
[10.0] "There aren't other words to say it, I absolutely loved this match. I understand why someone could hate this match, as it was a Classic "flippy shit" match, but I consider it one of the best AEW matches of 2022. This match was almost at the level of the amazing trios match at Battle of Los Angeles 2016"
[5.0] "Athletically impressive without a whole lot of substance. Couldn't really get invested into a match that achieved so little while doing so much. The stalling for some of the spots bordered on ridiculous. I think if a move is going to be both meaningless and require an egregious amount of set-up, it probably doesn't belong. Somewhere in this spot-fest were some nice sequences and maneuvers. Not a big fan of Kip but I also think his return was handled nicely. The referee somehow not seeing any of the interference though was astoundingly dumb. Ultimately, I'd wish this had gone much shorter."
[3.0] "Everyone enters the ring at-will, and the referee loses all sense of control. Not only does this make the wrestlers involved look bad for being unable, or in this case, perhaps unwilling to structure a match properly, it also makes the officiating pointless. Why should someone let go of a hold at five if the referee can't be bothered to make them follow the rules in a tag match? Without proper authority guiding the ship, contests become formless, functionally no different than scrambles. There is no pretense of the rules mattering whatsoever. It's all empty and soulless, no matter how flashy the action is."
[9.0] "There were a few spots in here where the wrestlers were standing around too long while waiting to catch a dive, which is a pet-peeve of mine. The Kip Sabian interference felt pretty lame, as he is nowhere near the caliber of any of the workers in this match and had no business taking away from it. But aside from those things, this was at the level of the best matches in the history of the company. Fenix and PAC were ridiculously athletic. Aussie Open are having their best year. Pentagon was great as always. But Ospreay was clearly the star who made this special, as he, knowing his audience, harked back to his days as a junior heavyweight. He is obviously the best in the world, and it's not close. By the way, nice shoutout to Threedom with the launched dropkick, United Empire. ****1/2"
[7.0] "I disagree that this is anywhere near 5 stars, but I far more heavily disagree with anyone rating this less than a 6/10. For as athletic and creative as the work here was, I can't call it anything less than 'really good'. Yes, there were definitely a few periods of mindless no-selling, but it's a flat-out lie to claim that there was outright "0 selling", or were my eyes lying to me all those times I saw the various wrestlers down on the mat/ground outside, motionless, gasping for air, and with their eyes glazed over? There were also definitely periods where the wrestlers slowed down and took a more technical and/or brawl-and-beatdown approach, which while less traditionally 'action-packed' were still really engaging and well-executed. Those 2 things were actually what allowed all the more spectacular spotfest periods to feel more unique and exciting as a result, since I definitely would have been a lot lower on this if it was *literally* just a 100% spotfest and nothing else as some people are claiming. Yeah, there were definitely periods that were a bit too overly choreographed (especially those consecutive mirror spots AEW LOVES to do but which I find really cheesy and far too convenient), but the level of athleticism, chemistry, and creativity on display during those spots and sequences allowed them to still be far more positive than negative. The crazy spots just kept coming in the final 1/4th, but they still mostly managed to take enough time to slow down in-between them to ensure that they never felt *too* overkill. I have to give special props to Fenix, who for whatever reason felt a lot more 'fresh' here than in his other recent performances. Maybe that was because he was paired with equally 'fresh' opponents here in Ospreay and Aussie Open, but for whatever reason I felt like he was executing his usual spots with a bit of extra 'flash' and with slicker technique than usual. Regardless of the exact reasons, he did an exceptional job when it came to hitting all his big individual spots. The same of course went for Ospreay, who delivered every single spot whether it was a flip, power move, or strike with 100% effort and flawless technique. His 3-man spots with Aussie Open were also really exciting and quite creative. I still wish Aussie Open got more time to show off their abilities, but I get that they're basically just Ospreay's pin-eater shields for now. The reveal/interference of Sabian at the end was really stupid (why didn't the decoy just... walk away? ? ? His legs weren't tied up, after all? ...), and I'm not remotely excited at the idea of him feuding with Pac. Regardless of that lame and contrived finish, the rest of the match was really good, though it probably would have benefitted from being shortened by like 5-8 minutes. ***1/2"
"Absolutely incredible, so glad Aussie open are getting to show the world how good they are. They're a big deal in my home promotion (attack) and really do deserve all of the praise they're getting. Absolute 5 star match"
[9.0] "They went into quite of a spotfest, which I'm not the biggest fan, but here, that was clearly the only way to do this one. All six men are accustomed to this. To be honest, I didn't see the 25-minute mark went by, 'cause this was a completely stunning action. Not always fond of Ospreay's spotfest shit, but here, he was like a fish in water. This felt like a good old PWG-ish non-sense funny spotfest. Even if the intervention of Kip Sabian was a bit strange in its building, that felt fresh. Everybody shined, especially Aussie Open. That was the purpose."
[7.0] "Decent enough main event. Not a 5 star match in my opinion. If I'm being honest this didn't hold my attention all that well, and the most exciting part was hearing Kenny Omega's music hit after the in ring action ended. But certainly not a bad match. Also since when is a gymnastics routine an insult? Gymnasts do all sorts of badass tricks, and are a completely legitimate and awesome sport. You'd think wrestling fans wouldn't insult other people's interests considering how much people make fun of our hobby. Absolutely weird mean nerd behavior. Back on topic though, this match was fast paced and full of talent. I just didn't like it as much as some of y'all did, and not nearly as much as Dave Meltzer did. You probably shouldn't skip this match though."
[8.0] "8.35/10: Amazing wrestling. I hate to be one of those guys, but 0 selling does get to me. It just feels like a grand disservice to the amazing maneuvers these guys put themselves through to not be sold for even 15 seconds. I also wish Ospreay's reactions/selling were a little less cartoonish. I know it's a Japanese style but it doesn't work for him (nor does it for Omega who also has only this one blemish on his otherwise-flawless in-ring performance). Regardless, insanely talented group of guys delivering an entertaining showing."
[10.0] "AEW always excels in multi-person tags and this was probably the best they've ever put on. Ospreay, PAC, and Fenix pulled off some incredible displays of athleticism as to be expected and Aussie Open did some solid tag moves. Also, I was so glad to finally get the payoff to the Sabian sitting in the crowd storyline."
[9.0] "Either a 9 or a 10 for me. While it lacked a build, it was fine without one because of the nature of a first round tournament match. I liked the deviation from contracted talent defeating non-contracted talent. Will Ospreay taking the majority of the attack was great, subverting the normal formula of the star of the team only being active in the climax, and it really shows his stamina. Something looked off about Penta vs. Fletcher. Some may say it was overbooked, but the angle at the end and presence of Best Friends added to the ambience and provided incentive to keep watching."
[8.0] "Awesome spot fest, but other than that there wasn't much to this match. Aussie Open were definitely disappointing here; they got barely any in-ring time, and when they were on there they were certainly not operating at their usual level. Maybe they were nervous? Who knows."
[10.0] "Six of the very best wrestlers out there at the moment giving it their all in an action packed match. Ospreay managed to stand out above the others, showing again why he may well be wrestler of the year. The trios tournament has been the best thing in AEW recently, and this was no exception."
[8.0] "I don't mind spotfest so this was a great match outside of the first couple of minutes, when they were just flipping out of moves, it looked cool but didn't really do much for me. They went all out in this match, the athletic ability put on display was impressive and they even did crazy spots during the commercial. Kip Sabian getting involved was incredibly lame, I just do not care for him at all.****1/4"
[7.0] "An absolutely tremendous spectacle, marred by the Kip shenanigans. When PAC and Ospreay were in there together, it was magic. The rest of the match was oooh? s and ahhh? s but there? s a lot of that on this program"
[0.0] "I wasn't going to rate this but seeing All Elite Dave rate this gymnastics routine 5 stars is ridiculous to me. 25 minutes of ridiculous, overly contrived spots that nobody sold just so they could get to the next spot. Psychology, selling, and story are the three most important parts of a wrestling match in my eyes, and this match had none of those things. At one point the two jabronis riding Will Ospreay's coattails sat outside the ring for a good 35 seconds before Pac finally decided to jump on them. And of course we can't have an AEW main event spotfest without some sort of interference, and this match had it in the form of a "returning" Kip Sabian! Thrilling! I'm already having nightmares about the main event we are getting next week. This was absolutely awful. Will Ospreay I thought was starting to move past matches like this but I guess not. What a dork. [DUD]"
[9.0] "Insanely impressive match as expected from Death Triangle and Ospreay in particular. Hell; Ospreay was the legal man 90% of the match lol. The slow stuff in PIP probably stopped this from being a 10 for me; shame it was not a PPV match. Are we really going to get Omega/Ospreay...?"
[7.0] "Really, REALLY excessive. Like, REALLY. The best segments of this match (which I watched through FITE) were when they went to picture in picture because they did more traditional style work. Some really eye-popping spots, I'll admit. But it's a bit excessive, especially towards the end. Those counters looked great but by the end I was just hoping they'd have a simpler finishing stretch. Good, even great at points, but a bit much. ***3/4"
[9.0] "Great match. There wasn't a lot of technical or superb limbwork, they just threw one move after another but it kind of worked. The pacing was done really well, there was almost no downtime, the action was superb but chaotic. Very athletically impressive but not a whole lot of storytelling. Little disappointed the way it ended; personally, I would have loved to see Death Triangle advance and actually win the whole thing but I kind of expected United Empire to win because it would mean Kenny and Ospreay in the same ring; But the way it ended was a bit of letdown and felt like a cheap finish to a rather fun match. ****1/2"
[9.0] "This was an absolutely outstanding match, with all 6 wrestlers tearing the house down. Will Ospreay continued to put on an incredible display of athleticism, and got the much deserved win with Aussie Open. Death Triangle was also amazing, and I'm glad that AEW finally pulled the trigger on Kip Sabian as he attacked PAC late in the match. Easily match of the night, and probably match of the week. 9/10"
[0.0] "I'll just first off that I understand why folks like this match, but it was just absolutely not for me, pretty much the opposite of everything I want to see in wrestling. Ospreay seems to me the epitome of a great athlete with little else to offer, and don't get me wrong, he's an amazing athlete, but almost everything else he does annoys the living hell out of me. When he "powered up" after that big PAC move I groaned, just cringey level stuff to me. Also thought it was pathetically telegraphed who would win, what with Don Callis all but screaming "LET'S BOOK OMEGA VS. OSPREAY" on commentary (also god, my ears, why do they let him do commentary at all? he's awful). Last and probably worst of all, the match is ultimately decided by the underwhelming return of Kip Sabian, a near jobber who spent the last year plus standing around with a box on his head which everyone rightfully ignored. No end to the cringe when PAC confronted him for no reason and found it was a... hostage, I guess? ! ? I didn't remotely understand what was meant to be going on there, but somehow it meant this nobody got the better of PAC. Sigh. I'll finish by saying Fenix is awesome and deserves better than to be forever jobbing out to these folks."
[6.0] "Matches like this feel like too much to me. When there is a commercial break on a turnbuckle brainbuster and a commercial break with the same wrestler who took the move back on the top rope it just felt nonexistent with selling or the moment with PAC doing the moonsault to the floor while waiting for about 20 seconds. It was certainly an athletic match and there were some incredible sequences. The match ended extremely flat for me following the Kip interference. A match that would have benefited for me by being more condensed and with a better ending."
[3.0] "I was not a fan of this, I do like Lucha Bros but the more I see them the moree I get tired of their style, especially Rey Fénix. There was a spot where Pac took almost a minute long to jump off the top rope, why were the other guys just standing there waiting? Its silly."
[7.0] "More of an athletic showcase than a match, but that's okay because it was tremendous and a pleasure to watch these guys do incredible things. And while I enjoyed this immensely, I can't in good conscience give it more than a 7, because it was just dudes going 100+mph for 30 minutes doing moves with no actual meaning or logic. And I hope I never see another avalanche brainbuster ever again - especially on a guy with a history of neck problems like Ospreay"
[9.0] "An excellent long-winded spotfest. Still nobody cares about Kip Sabian, and I would love to see Kenny Omega show up on a NJPW show before the end of the year and attack Will Ospreay, thereby challenging him to an IWGP US Title match without rules (No DQ) at Wrestle Kingdom. Ironically, this is the same thing that Chris Jericho did with Kenny in 2018. That would be epic."
[9.0] "One of the craziest spotfests I've ever seen. Will Ospreay participated 90% in the match without sparing himself, and every second of him in the ring conveys all the masterpiece of his image. PAC just got excited and gave almost his main performance, along the way finding his new enemy. United Empire is hunting for all the gold in the world and these titles are hotter than ever. 25 minutes of a big show and celebration where a huge amount of acrobatics and strike wrestling was really shown. Brainbuster with 3 ropes was generally performed like the last time. I got wildly high from the match and got an adrenaline rush for 24 hours. It's hard to praise the fact that it's better to see for yourself and feel the coolness of such wrestling. The fighters seem to have got into a video game and are holding matches there."
[9.0] "What a freaking match! Will Ospreay, PAC, and Rey Fenix are otherworldly talents in the ring. I need more singles matches between them in any way I can get them. It certainly does not hurt that Aussie Open is one of the best tag teams in the world and that Penta El Zero Miedo is among the most compelling all-around performers in the game. And long has been. As for the match itself, this was everything great about the wild Trios environment. Ospreay and PAC pulled off two of the craziest dives I have ever seen in a wrestling match. Fenix continued to display impeccable timing and an underrated ability to both strike and take things to the mat when aerial assaults are not an option. Penta delivered some of the best Superkicks I have seen, even in an era in which they are omnipresent. And Aussie Open packed quite a punch to add a power element to this explosive encounter. The entire match was exhilarating, including the red-hot start to the match that showed why Fenix and Ospreay are truly incomparable talents. The final five to 10 minutes of this one, however, are what take it from good to great. The visuals, the counters, the high-impact offense, and the finish had me on my feet and screaming at my television. Without hyperbole, one of the best matches in Dynamite history. Rematch ASAP, please. 4.5 stars, 9 out of 10. What a damn match!"
[9.0] "A fascinating spot rally that was executed near perfect for the plenty time they had. That time length felt a little longer for me as the match had its parts of slowing the tone down in a methodical way but lightly developing the yearn for speeding up. After the speed up, it was bonkers as hell! Both trios had wonderful chemistry especially the interaction between Fenix & Ospreay as well as the long due face-off between PAC & Ospreay. The tag teams worked greatly as Aussie Open raises their stock every time I watch them. I wasn't fully into a side to support as both are my fav teams & had equal chances but Kip Sabian's return gave the win to United Empire sealing the long awaited clash between Omega & Ospreay through this tourney. Kip returning was done wisely as the All Atlantic Title might've found its first homegrown rivalry. 4.25 out of 5 stars!"
[7.0] "PWGesque matches are always fun to watch, and even though this one is no exception, it got a bit boring towards the end. It felt too long, and sometimes the timing between the six of them was all over the place, and that bullshit with Kip Sabian was super idiotic and unnecessary. Still, a good and fun match, but didn't live the expectations and let me down a bit. ***3/4"
