[9.0] "This was the second best match of the show IMO. Tanahashi and Devitt (Balor) had awesome chemistry here. To me this is one of Devitt's best performances of his career, and yes there was a bunch of Bullet Club interference, but it all made sense and worked in the end and added to the story and the match. Devitt came off a total star in this match and the crowd were into him and his entrance. Tanahashi is just always great and knows when to hit his spots and his timing is always great. This was probably one of the hottest matches on the show as the crowd were just alive from everything, starting with the entrances. Awesome stuff. 4.25 stars"

[7.0] "This was a classic heel/face dynamic. Tanahashi's the best babyface in all of Japanese wrestling and Devitt was the biggest heel in New Japan at the time. Devitt's heel work is enjoyable and it's very compelling to watch Tanahashi overcome to odds and BC antics. Devitt's offense looked great and so did Tana's comebacks. The finish was full of interference but it kind of worked as Devitt went over Tana for the second time in a row. So an effective way of getting Devitt heat and hooked the viewer into wanting to see Tana finally beat Devitt in their Destruction match. ***3/4"

It sucked then, it sucks now, and it will always suck, and it will never be accepted by people no matter how hard Gedo tries to push it."

[10.0] "This match was extremely fun and I enjoyed it a ton. not part of the match, But I quite enjoyed the entrances of the two. I especially liked how Tanahashi came out with his own ride to the ring in Captain New Japan like Devitt with Fale. Devitt started the match off by attacking Tanahashi with the guitar he carried down to the ring and then beating him up and stealing his coat and posing on the turnbuckle which was very heelish and cool. Fale interfered and pulled down Tanahashi. What I thought was great was when Captain New Japan did the same thing to Devitt when he went off the ropes and balanced the playing field in a way. A moment I thought was really nice as well and looked rough was when Devitt got Tanahashi on some chairs over the guard rail and hit a double foot stomp off the guard rail. Devitt did a cool taunt by mimicking Tanahashi by strumming him like a guitar while he had him in an abdominal stretch. Tanahashi later on into the match hit a High Fly Flow onto both Devitt and Fale to the outside and it was really nice. Devitt hit the ref then Fale came in and hit Tanahashi with a chair and layed him out with a Samoan drop. Devitt beat him down with the chair and then a double foot stomp onto the chair which was on top of Tanahashi but it was only a two. That whole sequence was great. I really liked and thought it was funny when Red shoes stomped on Devitt to get payback. Tanahashi hit a really clean straight jacket suplex but it was only a two. Tanahashi went up top for a high fly flow and was stopped by Fale but Captain New Japan came over to make the save and the whole interaction there was really fun. Tanahashi went off the top but Devitt got the knees up and then Bullet Club just became too much for Tanahashi and Karl Anderson came and hit him with a Gun Stun and then Devitt finished him off with a Bloody Sunday."

This was such a fun match from the way they mocked one another, how Tanahashi had to fight his way out of every situation Devitt put him through, etc. This was just a classic babyface vs heel match dynamic, that usually doesn't work with the Japanese audience, but it sure as hell worked here. A little heavy on the interferences and cheating, but it told the story it wanted to tell. ***3/4"

Be that as it may, Hiroshi Tanahashi has an incomparable way of elevating anyone and just about anything. Without watching the rest of the card, this match is weak, however as part of this outstanding show, I find a great appreciation for the work of both men. ***3/4"

Devitt’s heel work here was outstanding and the counters and near falls in the final few minutes were so exciting. I loved this match."
