The feud going into the match between Edge and John Cena was one of the best that year, although I feel there could've been more intensity considering this was the blow-off. There were a lot of cool spots, not all of them were successful or hit the mark, but it doesn't hurt things too much in the grand scheme of things because there was a lot of cool and kind of silly spots in there too; the STFU using the ladder, the Five Knuckle Shuffle off the Ladder, etc.. I enjoyed the last five minutes or so of this match especially, basically the Lita interference and everything that happens afterwards until the finish which is so awesome. A great ending to this chapter of their rivalry. |

One of the best one on one TLC matches ever, loads of action and spots, fantastic psychology, insanely hot and hostile crowd, John Cena getting back Edge for beating him in his hometown at SummerSlam the month before and this was a fantastic way for John Cena to start his 380 day reign as WWE World Champion. Phenomenal match and the best in such a phenomenal rivalry. |

What was Edge trying to achieve there? He wanted to break the table himself? Why? Didn't make sense and a lot of the match was similar with both guys barely selling anything, because they had a lot of spots planned and had to get them all in. The only thing that I appreciated was Cena rebuilding the structure and covering for it nicely by going after Edge at first, but then remembering that getting the title was more important. |

The crowd is fully behind Edge who is playing at home. The final spot is awesome. The only downside are the tables used for the final spot, they remained for more than 10 minutes stacked on top of each other in the middle of the ring. A little before the end, the one on top fell and Cena put it back on as if nothing had happened. (4*1/2) |

Extra credit goes to Cena, who was both a master of in-ring expression and a terrific improviser when things went a bit awry. The best example of this is near the end of the match, where one of the tables set up falls over right before Cena is supposed to climb the ladder. The final spot calls for Edge to go through that table, so Cena has no choice but to set it up again for no reason before climbing the ladder. Except he covers for this masterfully by teasing that he wants to deal more punishment to Edge before thinking better of it and going for the title. Anyone who thinks Cena isn't an in-ring genius does not fully understand wrestling. ****1/2 |
