[5.0] "One day, AEW will create its own Performance Center, where Dante Martin, Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero Miedo and other guys will be sent to learn wrestling (although there is no one to teach) and there will be no such squalor as here. But it is worth praising Dante for the Canadian Destroyer, which they even managed to logically bring. **1/4"
[7.0] "For those that don't enjoy this match because of the style, that's valid. However, this is modern wrestling and it exists in every current promotion. It took me a while to really warm up to this because I grew up watching more grounded (literally) wrestling. These are great athletes and the inability to recognize that is a shame."
[8.0] "Very fun and excting stuff, high-flying wrestling at it's finest. Both men delivered great perfomances and the action was fast-paced, entertaining with lots of crazy spots and nice exchanges. The canadian destroyer sequence was amazing, the roll-up sequence was very good and the closing stretch was great. Non-stop action, very fun. 8/10 - 4*/5*"
[9.0] "Fantastic spotfest between Rey Fenix and Dante Martin here which is really one of my favourite matches of the year in this high-fly & very spotty style, I see very few of this level this year in any company and I think it's a testament to how good this match was between these two excellent workers who I really love a lot. So I know for a fact that this kind of match is not to everyone's taste as I've said a thousand times before and I understand that but from a personal point of view, I'm a fan of it when it's well done and here absolutely all the work done was really impeccable, both of them performed at an extraordinary level and do exceptional things with such ease that it becomes shocking. While we're not even shocked with them anymore as they've trivialized the spots they do, this was a superb showcase of how to make modern wrestling work and even if you don't like it... just listen to the crowd reaction. It works, and I'm glad for both wrestlers. I really loved it, ten minutes of pure fresh air."
[6.0] "A good and short lucha match. It could entertain anybody. But the selling are really very poor in this kind of match. So an average overall. (***)"
"Some of the most fun I've had watching a match in a long time! Pairing these two together was genius and led to a genuinely special match. I hope to see a rematch of them one day."
[9.0] "You can call this a spotfest but it has a lot going for it: they make everything make sense as it's all hitting stuff and going for the win or the countering each other. Almost everything hits great, other than some more telegraphed counters by the end. The highspots are trully unique and surprising and while this is not Dante's come out match and everyone already knows he is super agile and jumps high it still adds to his journey that he's ableto hang with Fenix and even frustrating and up him at points. Does not overstay its welcome and thus never loses the crowd. You feel like your watching the most spectacular wrestlers in the world going at it and it's a truly a great match of its style. 8.6/10"
[8.0] "That was NUTS! If you are looking for a match with an endless supply of insane spots and high-octane offense, then look no further. Two of the very best high-flyers in the world today raising the bar one move after another. It was the epitome of the story of anything you can do, I can do better, and it came with stellar visuals and several moves I had never seen in my life. That includes a move that even Excalibur struggled to explain, which tells you all you need to know. Throw in a tremendous closing sequence and this was about as good as it can get in under 10 minutes of wrestling. I struggled with my rating, but I have to go the full four given the creativity, pacing, and even the storytelling, despite the strange narrative that high-flying spotfests cannot also include a strong baseline story. The two best high-flyers in AEW decided to be the two best high-flyers in AEW and prove which one is best. I would not have wanted anything else. 4 stars, 8 out of 10."
[8.0] "For a 10 minute match with no build, this was as good as it gets. There's a very simple story here with the younger high-flyer in Dante Martin trying to get the better of the veteran high-flyer Fenix. This was as athletic of a match as you'll ever see. There were a couple spots that I've legitimately never seen before including a reverse Spanish Fly where both men land on their feet. ****1/4"
[7.0] "With a bit more at the end this could have easily reached ****, but for what it was I'll go ***3/4. Super athletic of course and I just love Fenix's selling. Martin is still developing his charisma but the high flying ability is absolutely there."
[7.0] "High-flying isn't my cup of tea but both Martin and Fenix shined pretty well here. Both dude's overness helped to put the things on as they displayed some cool spots through their bout. Fenix taught a lesson to Martin with his lucha background as the younger punk showed some good resilience and some lucha shit as well. The final strech was strong as hell."
[8.0] "Sehr gutes Match.Die zu erwartene Highlying Action, In knapp 10 Minuten zeigen beide Massig coole Aktion hätte aber auch noch locker 5 Minuten länger seien können. ***3/4"
[9.0] "This match had too many great moments that I can't do it justice picking a favorite. An example of this would be the Spanish Fly in which both wrestlers landed perfectly on their feet. The Canadian Destroyer was also one of the cleanest I've seen in a while as well. Excellent match between two of the best high flyers in the business today. Easily match of the night. 9/10"
[9.0] "Every few months Fenix has a match where he reminds everyone that he's one of the best wrestlers in the world, this was one of those matches. I had really high expectations coming into this match and these two blew them out of the water."
[10.0] "Two of the greatest high flyers working today, clashing right here, and wow did it not disappoint! Fenix is easily one of the best on the AEW roster and it's great to have him back after his nasty arm injury. And Dante Martin, at only 21 years old, has got to be one of the most spring loaded wrestlers of all time, the way he moves is really unreal, like few I have ever seen. These two pulled out all the stops and put on a truly tremendous TV match, one of the better TV matches all year. Top tier stuff, so good."
[7.0] "AEW's probably top 2 pure high-flyers gave us an absolute spotfest with all the usual negatives as well as all the usual positives. Obviously when you have these 2 facing off you can be pretty sure that 'wrestling fundamentals' won't be given too much attention, but I didn't mind that too much because the 'advanced' wrestling skills they displayed more than made up for it. They told a nice, minor story early on of both men being equally talented and thus frequently mirroring each other with their similar styles, with Fenix interestingly getting quite annoyed at how effortless Dante was with everything he did, as if Fenix was thinking "damn, is this kid maybe actually better than me? ". Dante's very high jumps and extended air time remained very impressive, and it was of course great to see Fenix back hitting all his awe-inspiring stunts for the first time since his major arm injury. Not to say I'm at all happy that Fenix suffered that injury, but man, having him finally allowed some time off so that we didn't have to see him do all his same crazy stunts week after week after week definitely made his performance here feel a lot more captivating than if he'd still been on Dynamite and Rampage this whole time since that January match where his injury occurred. There were definitely some overly obvious moments of cooperation for some of their more complex spots, but I was ultimately still impressed by how creative so many of their exchanges were and how they allowed both men to show off their variety of individual skills and their ridiculously smooth chemistry. And yeah, they definitely *could* have sold some stuff better and for longer -- I agree that that is a negative -- but when they make up for it with such insanely athletic feats then it's hard to hold that against them too harshly. Really fun performance. ***1/2"
[5.0] "There was some good athleticism on display here, of that there is no doubt, but not much else. There was no real psychology and some of the spots required far too much cooperation to the point that it looked silly. Also, Dante Martin's facial expressions were really bad, I don't know what emotion he was trying to portray or if it was his attempt at selling, but he made me cringe throughout. The result was never in doubt and it was certainly the correct decision."
[7.0] "Fun to watch match with a lot of athleticism on display. Fireworks were expected and some were delivered. I would think that if these two are given more opportunities to work together and develop a little more chemistry, they could actually do even more impressive things. Nobody would call it a mat wrestling classic, some complain that there was no selling. That stuff is great and has its place, but so does this. It's fine to see a couple guys put on a great acrobatic display sometimes. Certainly the most worthwhile match on this show."
[5.0] "This is one of those matches where the appeal is in the spots and little else. These guys can both move well and can be pretty spectacular in their moves from time to time, but there's not a whole lot of substance. I don't blame anyone for being sick of this kind of thing. I hope that Martin will eventually grow out of his regular match style but with the crowds loving it and it paying the bills for him right now, there's little incentive to move away from it."
[7.0] "This felt like a '90s NJPW junior heavyweight showcase, but with the execution of a random indy spot show. This was flips and dives galore, but it's hard not to be impressed by some of it. I was surprised they actually let things breathe for a moment from time to time here. For example, when Dante hits Fenix with the Destroyer, you can feel the pace beginning to slow down a bit before they pick it back up again. Fenix wrapped this one up after dodging Martin's double-jump Moonsault and finished with his piledriver to advance in the tourney. An enjoyable, no-nonsense spotfest sprint that clocked in at the right amount of time. [***1/2]"
[8.0] "This was a fantastic spotfest. Dante is unbelievably talented (unfortunately, there are few that can afford a loss that would be meaningful for him to beat). Great work. Fenix with a brain buster type move to finish off Dante"
[8.0] "This was a nice Sprint that allowed Martin and Fenix to show off their acrobatics. They focused heavily on high spots which essentially made this a spot fest but since it didn't overstay its welcome so I didn't mind this.***3/4"
[0.0] "This match is a mockery of what wrestling is supposed to be. Firstly, I will give credit where it's due, the acrobatics displayed by both men were impressive, and incredibly well done. That is the only positive I can come up with here. This was nothing more than a dumb spot fest match. There was absolutely NO selling, tons of unrealistic movements (why the FUCK would you do a cutter out of a powerbomb position instead of just DOING A POWERBOMB). This entire match just looked fake and forced. The piped in holy shirt and fight forever chants also detracted from the match. Just garbage. [DUD]"
[8.0] "Take the high flying of a lucha match and combine it with AEW's more grounded realism. This was a fun match to watch and while we got the usual flippy spots, it was nothing like the aaa lucha matches where destroyers, 450s and SSPs will barely get a two count. Both men sold really well and Dante had a lot more facial expressions and really has improved a lot since his first matches on dynamite. Lots of incredible atheletic moments and crazy spots that would normally be not possible for other men. It's very rare you see Fenix outpaced and matched in high flying ability."
[8.0] "A masterpiece of athletic wrestling! Just a breakdown of all standards, brilliant execution and professionalism. Wow! About the fighters 5-star chemistry, I'm sure this fight will be included in certain lists of the most enjoyable matches to watch, even during advertising, the fighters gave out top combinations. Here is the resounding return of Rey Fenix after injury! Just wow! I love such matches under which you fall in love with wrestling again."
[8.0] "Really nice flippy sprint with a handful of spots only guys at this level of athleticism could pull off cleanly. Not just big moves without selling either, a lot of the most impressive stuff was just smoothly countering or escaping things. Dante looks like a future star out there and that's good since he's flying solo again. Crowd also ate this up. Super Spanish Fly with both guys landing clean on their feet with their arms around each other was an insane visual, especially Dante looking pumped up while Fenix looked confused at how that happened. ***3/4+"
[4.0] "A lot of AEW haters often wrongfully label AEW matches as flippy spotfests lacking any in ring storytelling. This is a match in which those people would actually be right for once which is a real shame because Rey is normally spectacular and Dante has shown a lot of positives in the past year or so."
[8.0] "Can you expect any form of underwhelm or disappointment from these two? Nope! Both showed their high-flying athleticism to the fullest level and outnumbered each other with sick counters and jaw-dropping spots. The chemistry was palpable and the action was a treat to acrobatic action fans and Dante brought the best of him to let Fenix dust off all the rust fenders and give a great return to AEW. Fenix winning adds more star power and I'm interested to see how he's going to roll against O'Reilly. If the door's still open, bring Darius & Penta to the mix and give us a tag match sooner! 4 out of 5 stars!"
[7.0] "Fenix showed a little ring rust but it wasn't too noticeable abd Dante was able to carry the match fairly well in his stead. Good match, a bit spotty and focused more on big spots than the drama but nevertheless, quite fun. ***3/4"
[6.0] "Too much silly moves for my liking. The way Rey Fenix was looking at the crowd with his back to his opponent also bothered me. How both were just staring at the crowd after that reverse Spanish Fly where both men landed on their feet was the most awkward moment. Nonetheless they showed great athleticism as expected and I had some fun watching while watching the match. ***"
[9.0] "This is my favorite wrestling style. High-flying with some lucha libre, woah, I absolutely loved it. Two of the best high-flyers in the world, what a delight. However, I cant give it a 10 because it needed more storytelling, more psychology and selling."
[9.0] "Not always a fan of the Lucha Libre spotfest style, because the no psychology criticism is true, and also I see A LOT of botching as I watch wrestling around the world, but I can say that Rey Fenix & Dante Martin made this match WORK. They were on point with everything and had great chemistry. They are 2 of the most exciting wrestlers in the world today. It was like watching 2 Superheroes. These 2 could mess around and become another Dynamite Kid vs. Tiger Mask rivalry. They both really are that good. Rating for this match: ****1/4"
[8.0] "Lovely aerial exhibition for TV, just a shame Dante Martin wasn't around in the Reseda era, as this match took inspiration from past insane PWG bouts. Fenix somehow topped his Will Ospreay spot here."
[6.0] "I was hyped when this match was announced and I was soo ready to give a much higher grade than this, but I just can't. There wasn't much flow or psychology to this one at all - just felt like they were moving from one high spot to another. I will say that those spots were mostly done well and were super impressive - aside from the seemingly botched powerbomb into cutter that they had to re-do. The main standout spot was them both landing on their feet from a top rope Spanish Fly... can't say I've seen that before. Spotfests have their place in wrestling and I generally enjoy them - but this one felt soul-less. If the crowd wasn't so hot for it, I don't know if I'd even be able to give it a 6 - them popping for everything definitely lifted this match up. Fenix's new finisher looks absolutely killer, though."
[6.0] "This was more exciting than pretty much anything else on the show and they did exactly what you would have expected from them. They flew through the match with one big spot after another and that's all they should have tried here. Fenix winning makes sense but Martin looked good in defeat. Very fun match and the kind of stuff you knew was coming when it was announced."
[7.0] "These two are simply incredible high-flyers. I love how Rey Fenix almost seemed fed up with Dante Martin due to being outperformed by his sheer agility. Dante Martin is a future star and the undeniably talented Rey Fenix makes his comeback and advances in the tournament following his injury. Match of the night!"
[9.0] "Anything that has Rey Fenix in it is almost automatically going to be must-see television, especially if it involves another high-flyer like Dante Martin."
[8.0] "This was an excellent high flying spot fest with so much amazing athleticism that leaves you wondering how are these guys capable of doing all of this. I found it incredibly entertaining and some of the best in-ring action I have seen in a long time. My only complaint is that there was nothing beyond the action in the ring and at times I felt they could have waited to give some of the moves a little long to sit with the crowd. ****1/4"
