[9.0] "Hot take: I actually think this is better than the dog collar match. This had some amazing tag team wrestling, great heel work from FTR, Dax especially. Some wince inducing bumps to the floor that looked brutal like the DVD and the suplex. Briscoes hit the shatter machine which was awesome. One thing I didnt love was the one part where they traded chops for a long time, probably too long. But even still, this was a great match that the crowd was super hyped for and down the stretch, we had some great near falls."
[7.0] "This match is at most *** 1/2 nothing more and the fact that it's a five star match is quite confusing. Too long and and is not very thrilling to grab someone's attention for the whole length of the match"
[10.0] "My first time watching a Jay Briscoe match, having already seen what Mark and FTR are capable of, and this might just be the greatest tag team match I have ever watched; it is sad how pretty much every wrestling promotion treats tag wrestling as an afterthought, as this is just one example of how special these matches can be. I am yet to watch the next two matches, but it would take a LOT to top this."
[9.0] "I do not think there is much I can say about this match that has not already been said, this is a bone fide tag masterclass and one of the best straight tag matches I have ever seen. The Briscoes were such an emotion invoking team with their collaborative selling, and FTR were just such absolute bastards throughout. The spot in which Harwood just hammers the bloody wounded head of Jay Briscoe just has not left my mind since I saw this. FTR manage the win with the Big Rig, an excellent bout, one of the better tag matches I have seen, but not quite the best these two teams would do."
[10.0] "I truly believe it's one of the greatest matches in the history of this sport. I can't criticize it; what could I possibly criticize? It would be disrespectful. It's a fabulous match from every angle, simply fantastic. A truly great match, where they gave it their all, where the storytelling was spectacular, where the psychology was impeccable--EVERYTHING WAS IMPECCABLE. A match that deserves nothing but praise."
[10.0] "The first match in the FTR/Briscoes trilogy. This one is psychical and has a lot of great tag team sequences. These really are 2 of the greatest teams ever and you can tell they both wanted to prove that are definitively number 1."
[8.0] "This match marks the start of a legendary trilogy and it kicks off pretty strong, however I don't feel the hype yet, but it makes me want more of this match-up, it serves as a really good appetizer for what's to come and I hope that it will get even better from here and I believe it will. I think there are a few things which hold this match back for me, for one it just felt like *A* match to me, I know that this match was really big at the time it happened and you can feel it here, it feels big because of the electrifying crowd, but I don't have any particular feelings toward either team, so I didn't have this big-time feeling. But mostly, I know how this rivalry and the indivual matches turn out in terms of the results and being spoiled like that always takes something away from the match in terms of quality and suspens for me personally. Anyways, the match itself was great, the this match was buildung up over time was near-perfect, at least until the suplex by Briscoe to Harwood to the outside, up to that point this match was perfectly built and honestly felt like a breeze but afterwards? Not so much. The last 5 minutes felt quite underwhelming for me, they were kinda slow and missed a lot of the intensity the match had previously and then the finish just happened, I think these last 5 minutes are a big part as to why I don't feel this match as much as others do."
[10.0] "Nice build of just "we are the best" and you are the champions. Dem boys vs top guys. what a crazy atmosphere. Nice simple start. Mark Briscoe Redneck Kungfu is some of the most fun stuff. Wheeler calling for Dax to help him get out, that was sick. The Chair catch! Very solid momentum shifts! The Briscoe dominated stretch was an absolute thing of beauty. Then it all turns into a brawl on the outside. Dax having this mini story with his hand is lovely. The pace slowing down when FTR enters works so well to sell the inevitable briscoe tag! Mark is amazing when he is doing his moves and his sounds. The big tag moves really been hitting! crazy near falls.Another set of outside moves and they were GREAT. Wheeler propping Dax up, wonderful. The celebration, what a match!"
[9.0] "The start of one of the best trilogies of all time. The dog collar match we got out of this trilogy is one of my favorite matches of all time, and these guys just have great chemistry in the ring. Everything you want in a tag match, and both guys are beaten up and bleeding by the end."
[10.0] "holy shit. i need a fucking smoke after that. an absolute masterclass in pacing and selling. how many matches can you think of which ended exactly when it needed to, like down to the microsecond? these four make it look easy."
[10.0] "[5.0*] Absolutely perfect tag-team wrestling match. I'm just now starting the trilogy and I think there's a good chance this ends up being my favorite one. The reason is the fact this was just a straight-up classic wrestling match, with rules, tags, team maneuvers, strategy and no weapons. The only thing they had in their advantage was their technical ability and I'm fascinated with this. Like, the match is so smooth, everything is so fluid, the match has almost 30 minutes but my eyes were glued to the screen from start to finish and I was actually sad when the match ended lol. Another very charming thing about this classic is the fact that it ended in the first Shatter Machine from FTR. Of course, the match had tons of fantastic dramatic moments and nearfalls, such as the Slingshot Powerbomb + Splash combo by FTR and the Big Rig by the Briscoes, but I just love when the tag finisher from the tag that owns the move ends the match immediately. This is ideal psychology for me, I think it makes more sense and it's always harder to produce a match with such high quality when you don't have the "multiple false finishes card" to play. That Jay Briscoe Superplex on Dax to the outside was fucking gnarly, way more brutal than most of weapon spots would've been. They showed such a brutality and stiffness only with their moves, selling and facial expressions. The true definition of a Professional Wrestling Masterclass, my favorite genre of this lovely sport. A match you could watch with a fine glass of wine."
[10.0] "[5.0*] WHAT A WRESTLING CLINIC! Seeing the tag division being represented this well was beautiful. I even get emotional knowing that ROH had something so well showcased with Briscoes & FTR. FTR showed everyone they were the outsiders, there to take the titles away, while the Briscoes had the full support of the crowd, being cheered and defended throughout the entire match. The moments highlighting tag wrestling -- the underdogs facing off and then the big names -- seeing the chemistry they built, the blade jobs, the huge spots, and that insane table spot... it was all incredible. Watching Mark Briscoe shine, seeing Dax sell his exhaustion, and how the crowd reacted to it was just wonderful. I really enjoyed the way they transitioned into the big spots, always with something that made you want to keep watching to see what would come next. The beautiful spot between Dax and Jay, along with the kickouts from the big moves, were fantastic -- but ending the match on the first finisher made it wrap up abruptly. Still, this was probably the best tag team match I've ever seen in my life, surpassing Revival vs. DIY."
[10.0] "First match of the trilogy and what a start! The crowd is really into both of these teams and who can blame them. The creativity in going on in the ring is off the chart. The excellent match structure and great hard hitting action make it feel like both a fight and a chess match. They go almost 30 minutes and it doesn't feel like it slowed down at all. Both teams have remarkable chemistry for never having faced each other before. I'm not sure this series could have started any better."
[10.0] "The trilogy's thriller, this first-time meeting is armed with an electric, almost overwhelming atmosphere. It's a response that the action embraces, equally enhancing the excitement with aggressive, enthralling exchanges. In the midst of a babyface turn, FTR lean heel, playing the outsiders on a show that if nothing else, represents the start of a new ROH. The Briscoes are defiant in defence of their throne though, meeting FTR head on for a clash that matches its fiery "build, " rich with intensity and spite. At 27 minutes, this manages to push a remarkable pace without wasting a moment, building seamlessly to a sudden, triumphant crescendo. An all-time classic, astonishing pro wrestling. *****"
[9.0] "What a match! This was a rugged, physical fight from the opening bell, with both teams at the top of their game. Lots of good stuff here -- I loved how evenly matched they were, especially as the intensity kept building throughout. The Briscoes stealing a page from FTR's book by hitting their own Big Rig was a great false finish. And the suplex to the outside was NASTY. This was an absolute battle that put all four men through hell. ****1/2"
[10.0] "When this match ended, I had the exactly same feeling Dante had on twitter after watching the first match of the Omega vs Okada, the only think I can express right now is "what the hell did I just watch? ". Probably the best non stipulated tag team match I ever saw in my life, man. Everything here felt so real, so magical, the chemistry was incredible high for a dream match like this one. I love when people call some match as a dream match but in reality there's no dream able to reach the peak of what this was, just like Bryan vs ZSJ or even Kenny vs Ospreay. The match had basically the same start that every single match from the FTR have, slow, methodical, with they conducting the pace and not using many moves like punches, just locks and some chain wrestling if it's necessary. Mark showed athleticism that Cash can't compete with, Jay showed a incredible high speed that Dax can't compete with, so it already it's looking like a tough match for the Living Legends. However, their chemistry as a tag team is better, to they're able to somehow take the lead of the match for some moments, not fully tho. The most beautiful thing about this match is no one controlled it, it was always changing the pace of it and the spots for. And like I said before, everything felt so real. We all know it's not realistic a tag team match itself, but like, when Jay was pushed into the corner by Dax, he tried to get the heat back to him, and he start hitting both Dax in the ring and Cash outside, in the side. However, Jay wasn't seeing Cash, just hitting him with his back because his primary focus should be of course in the ring, the place where Dax is. At some point, Cash went down, Jay didn't notice and he still using his back on the corner, to try to hit Cash, even with no one being there. This is real wrestling, man. He manage to do a hot tag to Mark which was one of the best hot tags I ever saw in my life, Mark basically went full crazy doing the things he is famously know to do. Talking about him, what a fucking match he had here huh? Hard to pick a MVP in a match so great like this one, where everyone was fully conected doing their job rightfully, but he gonna be the best here. He took bumbs, bleeding, did slaps, took slaps, even took a incredible right punch in the face by Dax, he was peak. The match impressed me in many different ways, I was impressed when Jay hitted Dax with a Death Valley Driver in the outside, looked so painful. I was impressed when Dax hit Jay with a Powerbomb followed by a Splash by Cash that almost made Jay lose (incredible kickout) and them we had probably my favorite moment of this entire match, when Jay hitted a Suplex in Dax that the medical team of ROH even came worried about Dax state. Not gonna lie, even me was worried about him. That bump fucking hurt so much, and like Ian Riccaboni (which was incredible here) said, Dax want to continue the match. He was NOT good enough to continue, but he will not stop this until we have a winner. It's their dream match as well, this will end with a winner and a loser. Jay tag with Mark, they tried to hit their finisher on Dax. Cash appeared, Mark did some chops in his neck, he went down. This gave enough time to Dax recover and escape from the position he was. Jay is not the lega man right now, he notice Cash outside and try to hit him, but he missed, went so hard on the floor. Mark is now alone and without noticing, Dax raises him and Cash followed with the Codebreaker, or as everyone probably call, Shatter Machine. One, two, three, and we have new ROH tag team champions. Everything here in this match was incredible, even the moment where Dax threw a chair in the ring and the referee picked WITHOUT any problem, legendary is Paul Turner. This is a FUCKING five stars match for me and it will cost some time to watch something better than this related to four guys in a ring without weapons again. And can you guys believe in me when I say this is NOT the best match of the trilogy? And I took more than four thousand characters for it."
[8.0] "Perhaps i was watching this with my expectations to high because i've known how good apparently these matches were but felt underwhelmed by this match tbh i mean it was good by all means but not an all timer match - perhaps i was watching it in a bad mood and need to rewatch it"
[10.0] "Settled in for the full feud stream. I watched all of these as they happened but they were before I started rating so it is about time. The best modern day American tag team (Briscoes) of all time vs a legitimate contender to that title. Big time wrestling. Great crowd and a great blend of working styles between both teams led to a special encounter. The guys had a complete match inside and outside of the ring. We got the added effect of blade jobs. The big spots and near falls were paced perfectly to keep the crowd engagement at 100. Man. This match is so great."
[10.0] "FTR and The Briscoes are masters at their craft and were born to face each other. Two teams at their height of their respective careers out to prove that they are the greatest tag team to ever grace the ring. Its not just a catchphrase for this trilogy, its the truth. I've watched this match a few times now and every time they are able to surprise me with something I missed the last time. Every time the final bell sounds I am in awe of what these 4 men were able to do. They make one of the single greatest tag team matches in the history of the sport look easy and somehow do better with each rematch. It just doesn't make sense. The start of a legitimately perfect trilogy of matches that elevated the entire sport for 2022 and beyond."
[10.0] "The first match of their trilogy and this match was perfect. A flawless tag team match from start to finish, both teams showed how much chemistry they had instantly when going up against each other and it was a sight to see every second of it. Chapter 1 of FTR vs.The Briscoes will always be remembered for me dearly."
"Just rewatched this match for the first time since right before I drove to Lowell MA to see their rematch at DBD. One of my favorite tag matches ever, and the edge and physicality that they have with each other is palpable. RIP Jay Briscoe"
[10.0] "Amazing match, truly one of the best tag bouts you'll ever see and its only the start of one of the greatest tag team rivalries of all time. Please give this a watch if you never have."
[10.0] "[5 Stars] The start of one of the best All Time tag team rivalries. This is one of the best 2v2 matches without stipulations in history. I think this match perfectly illustrates the term "Dream Match" 2 of the best All Time teams clashing, one from the WWE product and one purely from indie and ROH giving us a magnificent match for the love of wrestling. (*****)"
[10.0] "One of the greatest tag team matches of any era of pro wrestling. Its just the start of this legendary trilogy they had. FTR and the Briscoes had great chemistry in the ring. Every time I come back to watch this match, it just gets better. FTR and The Briscoes have some of the best tag team knowledge ever. The storytelling and phycology were good. The hot tag when Mark came in was great. Jay and Dax were throwing hands while Mark and Cash were doing the same. This was an all-time classic tag match."
[10.0] "What a fantastic match! One of the first ones that should come to mind when mentioning flawless tag matches. FTR played amazing heels in this match, and the first few minutes were used to establish that, with Jay Briscoe even being spat on. Amazing in-ring action, amazing crowd and amazing spots. The match had a pretty good progression as well, with it starting more slowly and building up to the big moments, and both had teams had amazing chemistry. Definitely well worth a watch and one of the best Tag Matches I've ever seen."
[10.0] "The match showed true tag team wrestling. Amazing in-ring work, great moves, gelled well, smooth motions, great selling, and perfect storytelling. The crowd was going crazy and so was I. Amazing match."
[9.0] "This match was absolutely sensational, the first of a fantastic trilogy! FTR and Briscoes on the same ring wrestling against each other felt like a dream, the two best tag teams in the world, the vibes were unmatched. Crowd was super hot since the beginning and made the environment extremely special, they were divided between the 'Top Guys' and 'Dem Boys', chanting and making the atmosphere a special one, for me this is the word that defines this match, it was special, specially because of how rare it is to see a modern american tag team match with such a classic and unique style, we had a progressive change of styles and the predominant ones absolutely dominated the scenario, specially in tag team competition, and I'm not saying necessarily that this right here is better (it is), but only the fact that they were doing it makes it special and different, so it's a joy. This was only the first, and clearly had elements that built other encounters, not only between FTR and the Briscoes, when the match ended the Young Bucks appeared and challenged FTR for a match, crazy to see those three iconic teams in the same angle. The match had a very nice psychology, they were constantly trying to outsmart each other and telling cool stories with that, I loved when Dax was thrown out of the ring after a backdrop suplex and Cash helped him, so right after both teams had a staredown. There were a lot of near finishes and what stood out about the finale was that they were working together the entire time, but without making the match messy or overbooked... the old-school style prevailed and this was a relief in the middle of so many identical matches, but only the first chapter of something really really special, the last big rivalry of the Briscoe Brothers together - {****1/4}"
[8.0] "Great match, but not quite as good as expected given the rating. Solid action throughout, the tag team work was really good. Not the MOTY, or even the MOTN (thats the main event)"
[10.0] "The big dream match finally happened and it did not disappoint in the slightest. The chemistry was just there, especially with Dax and Jay, and FTR won the titles off of the brothers."
[6.0] "Pretty solid tag match. Great atmosphere and these guys have great chemistry together. I also appreciated the blade job done here, most of this guys are bleeding by the end of the match. What prevents me from rating this higher is that I think the match takes awhile to really get going."
[10.0] "Insane. thing of fucking beauty that puts the two teams into legendary status imo I thought id get tired of such a long match but nope. edge of my seat the whole time"
[10.0] "First match of this historic Trilogy. I was amped for this match. As soon as all the socials started I knew it had to lead somewhere. Just amazing. The chemistry is perfect and and these 2 seemed born to wrestle each other. 5+* from me."
[10.0] "It clicks perfectly between the 2 teams. The booking was perfect as well as the execution. Tag team wrestling as I love it where it doesn't come easy. (5*)"
[10.0] "Another reason this is great is, you can tell they had no plan (confirmed by them) and with this being their first meeting ever, its almost unheard of to have this kind of chemistry."
[9.0] "[4.75*] FTR and Briscoes had instant chemistry, since before the start of the match the crowd was already looking forward to seeing this historic duel between the two best tags of all time. The result was a banger. The teamwork between the two tags was perfect, and the exchanges between them were wonderful. Briscoes making a shatter machine was amazing. The end was a real battle, Dax and Jay Briscoe facing each other, bleeding as they hit each other, it was an epic moment. The finish was spectacular, simply a banger."
[10.0] "this is a 10 out 10 this match was just EPIC! With one of my favourite tag teams the Briscoes facing my favourite tag team of all time FTR this match has what you want in a tag team match good techincal wrestling good high sports drama not knowing whos going to win. First time watching this match and man i love it cant say a enough good things about this match and btw RIP Mark man we miss you"
[8.0] "An excellent tag match. and the beginning of a legendary trilogy. Everything feels natural, and the crowd is red-hot for both teams. Loved the Big Rig/Shatter Machine near fall from Dem Boyz, and the suplex to the floor was a great spot as well. The match was fairly long, going almost 30 minutes, so the abrupt finish kinda felt off to me. Other than that, there's nothing really wrong with the match, but by today's standards, I feel you need a bit more of oomph throughout the match, at least for me. 4.25 Stars."
[9.0] "Excellent tag team match. The Briscoes and FTR walk out in front of a molten crowd and prove why they're two of the best tag teams on the planet. This is the perfect example of how to have a match with modern pacing and action without ever sacrificing the internal logic, psychology and believability of a wrestling match. The work is stellar, the selling is stellar, the blade jobs are stellar, it's just a fantastic display of tag team wrestling. Every big move is sold accordingly, in particular the fantastic selling of the suplex to the outside by Dax, the facial expressions and body language of all four guys sell the effects of the high impact moves, the match is laid out very well with logical shifts in momentum, the false finishes are great and the finish itself is equally good. Some of the sequences were a tiny bit too contrived for my liking and the match ending after a lull in the action instead of the emotional peak of the audience are the only gripes I have with this and the reason it's not a 10/10, but it's a phenomenal match nonetheless"
[9.0] "An excellent Tag Team Match here in the match of the night for sure. For a match that was mainly built up through Twitter, it absolutely delivered and then some. I know the majority of people give this a 10/10, but, for whatever reason, it doesnt QUITE get up there for me. However, this is a really strong 9/10 for me. If I were using the WON scale, it would be a definite 4.75/5. Im really looking forward to seeing these two teams battle again, as I know they have all the potential in the world to top this, as incredible as it was."
[8.0] "I have to say that I don't think this is a MOTYC at all, but it's a great match like we expected them to have. This had a lot of elements of old-school wrestling mixed with the modern intensity and pace so it was never boring. Nearly 30 minutes flew by and it didn't feel like they wasted a minute. Everything felt realistic, natural, physical and there wasn't anything too cutesy like the also highly acclaimed FTR/Bucks matches. It's an entirely different kind of tag match from what you normally see nowadays. The selling, bumping and facial expressions were fantastic. The big suplex onto the floor was sold perfectly. That's how you do a big spot onto the floor and make it memorable and mean something. Briscoes stealing FTR's finisher was also really cool, and didn't feel out of place like finisher stealing does in most modern matches. ****1/4"
[10.0] "One of the best tag team matches I've ever seen, perfect chemistry between the two teams, and the start of the historic year that FTR would have and chapter 1 (and best) of one of the best trilogies of all time (*****)"
[10.0] "MOTYC for sure, up there with Revival vs American Alpha and the best tag team match and maybe best match on American Soil since Omega and Hangman vs Bucks. Very excited for FTR."
[10.0] "In retrospect, is hard not to compare this match to the two out of three falls. The second match was perfect for me, but this is one, if isolated, is really tremendous and memorable. Is easy to why to many fans this is the best match of the trilogy. Two teams working together so well against each other for the first time, a legit dream match that lived up to it. Must watch."
[10.0] "the first and arguably my favourite match of the trilogy. this was a modern classic. 4 months worth of heat leading to this match and they did not disappoint. the atmosphere was simply incredible with the chants being louder than ever. the crowd was chanting "holy shit" before the bell even rung and was split on both teams. FTR did a great job playing into the heels, refusing the CoH handshake and having Dax spit on Jay. this drew major heat and only built into the intensity of this match. the action itself was a great mix of old school and modern day wrestling. there was technical wrestling, bloodly brawling, acrobatic moves and everything else you can think of. the ending stretch had me on my feet not knowing who was gonna win. those were some of the closest nearfalls i've ever seen. Jay delivered a brutal suplex to Dax off the apron but it wasn't enough as FTR came out as the new tag champs. this was tag team wrestling at its finest."
