One night off Austin's shocking heel turn at WrestleMania and you actually see him visually tap to The Rock's Sharpshooter and there was more than one occasion where Rock had the visual win but the outside interference from Vince was costing him. Triple H comes out looking like he's after Austin, but then destroys Rocky with the Sledgehammer and the unholy trinity of Vince, Triple H and Austin stand tall."

At first Austin starts beating up Rock but eventually the roles get reversed. They get in the ring and Rock goes for a sharpshooter and Austin taps oute but Vince is distracting the referee. Austin with low blow gets the lead and then Triple H comes down and joins forces with the rattlesnake and beat the hell out of Rock. Overall a good match that ends with HHH and Austin joining forces."

I know WWE was trying to establish Steve Austin as the top heel at this point in time, as this match happened on the RAW after 'Mania 17, but Steve Austin immediately tapping to The Rock's sharpshooter makes absolutely no sense considering he was able to ensure it for so long the night before. Similarly, The Rock scoring so many visual pins on Steve Austin after about six minutes of wrestling just made no sense. I guess you could say that Steve Austin was still battered from WM17, but it just felt like a cheap attempt to build heel heat for a poorly thought out heel turn. Other than that, this match mostly just served to set up HHH's alliance with Austin and the beginning of the Two Man Power Trip. **1/4"

The crowd is fantastic throughout and it maintains a lot of the excitement from the previous night's match. Rock/Austin is always going to be a must-see in whatever format it's presented in."

The perfect drama, the audience was hot, as everything was sold to them correctly, this match was purely gimmicky, one of the rare cases when wrestling is not needed, and the implementation is based on emotions. In addition, the intervention of Triple H, followed by a heel turn, added fire."

[7.0] "This is the night right after Stone Cold had just made his shocking heel turn. It starts off as a brawl on the outside but Rock would quickly gain the upper hand, when they get back in the ring this would remain true for almost all of the match. Rock kicking Austin's ass for a majority of the matchup rules, he makes him bleed but every time it looks like he's going to win Vince ends up attacking the ref. We eventually get a no-contest since HHH interferes and they knock out the ref as well.***1/2"
