[10.0] "The match ends with Benoit stepping in to counter the underhook suplex, backdrops Regal, Regal grabs Benoit's arm to prevent the pin, hitting Benoit with knees coming up. Regal executes the underarm Suplex, Benoit kicks out of multiple pin attempts, Regal hits Benoit with a beautiful dropkick, Benoit reverses a tombstone with a shoulder breaker, applies the crossface for the win. This match is full of subtle nuances and sequences like this and it has a cult following but it's legacy has been buried for obvious reasons. The fact that a hard hitting match of this quality was held on a middling C show has to be seen to be believed. By a distance the best match ever in the history of Velocity and a masterclass in the art of Technical shoot style wrestling. It is that good, but obviously not for everyone given Benoits involvement in the match."
[9.0] "Few great matches in wrestling history are less suited to their setting than this one. I say that lovingly too, as Velocity deserves its reputation as a delightful wrestling telecast, but this is something different. In one of the decade's finest television tilts, Benoit and Regal go to war with a physical, violent wrestling lesson. It's spiteful and urgent, drenched in aggression at every turn. The intensity gives this a palpable danger, an edge that's present with each hold and especially those thunderous strikes. The selling is extraordinary too, painting a truly vivid picture of competition and grit. Beautiful match, a distinctly un-WWE hit. ****1/4"
[8.0] "This is a really good match, a gem. William Regal is treating us here, he holds his leg to prevent Chris Benoit from taking him in an attempted suplex. It's really good. (4*)"
[7.0] "[3.5*] Awesome technical wrestling match and pretty beast to do it on fucking Velocity, lol. Regal got busted open off a headbutt on the beginning of the match and it really gave an extra sauce to the bout. They did some very unique stuff and submissions I have never seen before. I was very impressed by this showdown."
[8.0] "These two just decided to put on a great match on a Wwe B show when they couldve easily coasted and had a standard match. These two had such dedication to wrestling that they couldnt resist just going all out on a pointless show. PPV level stuff great match 4/5"
[10.0] "Awesome technical wrestling, won't appeal to everyone but the intensity and the style of the match is gold for anyone who like either Benoit's or Regal's work (****3/4)"
[9.0] "This match is amazing and the fact that it happened on Velocity is pretty crazy. This was a very intense and stiff match with incredible technical wrestling. ****1/2"
[6.0] "Chain wrestling and technical holds are good but you can only do so much before it becomes boring and quite frankly irritating, this was always regals style and specialism but benoit was capable of much more and shouldve been allowed to dictate the match with more action"
[9.0] "Amazing match full of great technical holds that never once bore you, the fact these two went their hardest at an indy show and a B-Show like Velocity really shows how dedicated they were to the sport. The headbutts in this match are so disgusting, the blood flowing from their foreheads was insane to look at. If there were any critiques I would have to make, I wish this was 4-5 more minutes, but maybe that's cause of the commercial break. Super good match, one of Regal's best in WWE."
[6.0] "A perfectly good little match that has since developed a strong cult appreciation just because of the unique charm in that it was two fan-favourites facing off on a C-tier show that barely anyone would've seen at the time. I think I "appreciated" this a lot more than I necessarily "enjoyed" it, since they did a lot of interesting things, but not many of their interactions were actually that exciting. It was obviously very grappling-heavy, with both guys showing very good technique as well as some nice intensity and athleticism in the process. The issue with matches like this is that they're basically a massive over-correction in response to matches that are far more mindlessly action-packed (i.e. spotfests) or far more melodrama-and-interference-focussed (i.e. WWE's main-event soap operas). And while I'll take this sort of match over those sorts of matches probably 7 or 8 times out of 10, it's still a fact that this really wasn't that engaging because of how intentionally dry and slow it was. I did like when they finally moved past their (admittedly good) technical exchanges and into their more impactful and urgent strikes and power moves, but even then, none of those attacks were ever anything that screamed "amazing" or even "great", more so just being pretty good. They probably needed a clearer focal point to make this more compelling, like maybe some more focussed limb-targeting, just to make the match feel like more than just a segment of grappling, followed by some bursts of more high-impact offence in amongst more grappling, followed by a sudden finish. If you want to say that this was a nicely realistic fight, at least by pro-wrestling standards, then I can somewhat agree, because I've seen tens of thousands of competitive grappling matches that, while impressive on a technical, weren't exactly the most exciting from a spectator's standpoint, which is exactly what this was. ***1/4"
[10.0] "Yeah, this is the very definition of a hidden gem that will never get the recognition it deserves, in part because it occurred on a B show like Velocity, and in part because it involves Benoit. Regardless, this was amazing. A downright impeccable display of technical wrestling and stiffness, as well as some really compelling moments. Loved how Regal got stunned and cut early on only to rally soon after and take the fight to Benoit, loved how he withered Benoit away with multiple pinning predicaments. And of course, Benoit was Benoit, exhibiting his signature fire and brutality. That being said, I honestly think Regal was the star of this match. I was just blown away by his Un ring psychology and athleticism, this might very well be the best match he ever had. Maybe I? m being a bit too generous with my rating here, but I honestly think this is one of the best wrestling matches from this era and it really deserves more renown. A true highlight in the career of either man, which is saying something. Two technical warriors just giving it their all. A classic. *****"
[9.0] "Regal and Benoit go together like milk and honey. Regal gets a chance to show off some of his World Of Sport exchanges, but this wasn't the frilly World Of Sport stylings that you expect from a Johnny Saint match. This was a nasty and rugged wrestling match where neither man was afraid of potatoing the other. I love how Regal sold, as it felt very natural and didn't feel like he was hamming it up at all. The strikes here are stiff and Regal gets busted open hard-way by a headbutt. All the holds are locked on with plenty of grip and there isn't one instance where a hold is put on so the guys can have a breather. This is the kind of wrestling that will put hair on your chest!"
[9.0] "It was ridiculously excellent and thrilling to watch. A slobberknocker sprint where both men took pleasure to stiff the other. Regal and Benoit clicked so well, having a similar vision of wrestling, but not really the similar moveset. Crazy thing. A gladiator's fight, for sure. Regal's bleeding was tough, Benoit gave no fuck. Completely mad that this happened in a B-show."
[9.0] "This was a really good match but for these two to go out there and do it on velocity of all places is crazy. All the technical wrestling in this match felt like a genuine struggle, and the two felt like they were trying to outsmart one another in their exchanges due to how intense the wrestling they were doing was. Regal being busted open by a headbutt added to how vicious this match was.****1/2"
[9.0] "An example of awesome wrestling between two top level technical wrestlers. This is one of those matches that should be shown in wrestling classes because it has everything you need. I loved the brutality of the match with Regal being busted open and every move was performed to perfection. Plus it was only 12 minutes, so it was a very quick match. Awesome match, overall."
[8.0] "Great display of technical wrestling by two of the best technical wrestlers ever. Both were intense as usual and Regal showed great urgency in this match. His selling was awesome. Benoit busting Regal open with the headbutt added to the brutality of this match. Finish was well built with Benoit hitting a shoulder breaker on the right shoulder of Regal and locking him with the Crossface that targeted Regal's head + the left shoulder."
[9.0] "This was ridiculously awesome, even more for a Velocity match. I won't go as far as to give it the maximal rating because of the commercials that kind of hurt the dynamic of the match and because it would have needed a few more minutes and a big context to make it perfect, but it was an absolutely brilliant match from start to finish. Simply put, it was a match that was worthy of the talent of Benoit and Regal, both protagonists were able to show their level of greatness in a show that at first no one was interested in and drew some eyes to the product. Benoit's performance was fantastic as usual, but I would like to highlight Regal's who was an absolutely amazing heel here, doing a nasty job on Benoit's body. Regal bleeding was badass as hell too and a nice touch in an already brutal match-up. I was invested from start to finish, the crowd loved it and it was just a great match."
[7.0] "It was a really cool match, I loved some technical exchanges during the match, Benoit and Regal clearly have chemistry. I loved the finish too, I think it's a little bit overrated but I liked it a lot. ***1/2"
[8.0] "Two absolutely top class athletes did a great match on one of the shows you would not expect such high quality wrestling. Very good chemistry, technique and amazing performance by both wrestlers. It's not the most specatacular action, but a very solid grappling and classical wrestling. Worth watching."
[9.0] "This was absolutely excellent. Incredible technical wrestling where everything seemed like a stuggle. Making something like getting on a headlock seem like the the hardest move to pull off. Them fighting for every move, giving of this intense energy to it. Very stiff at times, busting Regal up with some nasty headbutts. Already seen (and loved) the match and it totally holds up on a rewatch. ****1/4"
[7.0] "Pretty brutal and solid match from two great wrstlers, but nothing nearly ****1/4. I really tried to love this match as much as many of other viewers, but for me they just didn`t do enoutgh storytelling moments in the fight to make it logical and interesteng. Besides that, action for fine, but nothing special, just some brutal brawling and submissions. ***1/2"
[9.0] "What a wonderful surprise of a match. If you happened to be tuned into Spike TV late Saturday night expecting some base-level, inoffensive wrestling, you were shocked by a brutal, technical classic that topped any other match held on Velocity by a large degree."
[10.0] "Honestly one of my favorite WWE match to watch. Even better than their match at the Brian Pillman Memorial Show from 2000 IMO. These two put on a clinic and that was at Velocity of all shows. Highly recommended."
[10.0] "Absolutely awesome brawl. Benoit and Regal produced the best match of 2005 on a random episode of Velocity of all shows unbelievable. The intensity, the brutality, the bloodbath everything was awesome. A Classic(****3/4)"
[10.0] "This was absolutely amazing - Benoit & Regal putting on a classic at Velocity of all shows! The intensity was off the charts, the striking was nasty, the holds/submissions were great & the way they told the story with their great facial expressions was fantastic. ****1/2"
[7.0] "I gave this match *** 1/2 stars out of 5. Both Benoit and Regal wrestled a stiff and crisp match, including chain wrestling, striking and submissions, but I would have loved to see some more impact maneuvers other than the suplexes they threw."
[8.0] "Two highly-skilled & experienced mat technicians were given the rare opportunity of twelve minutes of TV time to engage in the type of contest that might lull Mr. McMahon to sleep. As a longtime viewer of the two, though, I have great confidence in these two to engage me with their grappling. There wasn't really a story to the match, it's not as if B worked over R's right shoulder prior to hooking on the Tombstone Shoulder-breaker --> Crossface, outside of each's ability to smoothly to gloriously block or transition from their opponent's move to their own counter. *** 1/3 7. 5 rounded up"
[10.0] "So one day, on a random episode of Velocity, Benoit and Regal decided to have one of the best matches in WWE history. WTF? This match is freaking amazing though, everyone should go out of their way to watch it immediately."
[9.0] "This match was just so technical and got brutal after Benoit head butted Regal and busted him open. Crowd was great here and a really good story told as we'll and these guys just work so we'll together. (****)"
[9.0] "Benoit busts Regal open by one-two shots, that's impressive. Such a brute fight on B show, only this two could wrestle on huge PPV's and on 1 hour shows like they don't see the difference!"
