Other than that, I felt like the crowd was quiet for way longer that they should've through the match. Punk also bled a little bit too much, too early for my liking. But, I still think that the match itself was good, but never actually reached its full potential and the full potential that this feud had. The only thing I could think after finishing was "It is a real shame that CM Punk left AEW, because this rivalry could've been one of the greatest in history.""

"Not sure what it is, but really don't like any sort of matches where the opponents are strapped or chained together. Couldn't get into it and much preferred their Chicago match. The ending also took me further away from the match. Can understand why this match is popular as the rivalry was great and the build was a decent lengthy and got people hooked in but for me the match and even the aftermath of it just made me feel away from it. Both guys are great wrestlers but I feel there's a lot of different matches from these guys that are worth while"

It really peaks with Punk's entrance, which is absolutely immense and truly moving, and its Wardlow assisted ending is very cool too, but too much in between is not quite on the same level. I think the 2 real stand out aspects of it are MJF's selling of the hand that Punk hurts early on, and Punk doing the same in the latter stages with his knee, but beyond the opening stages of MJF trying to escape and Punk making him pay, most of this lacks the real intensity that such a thing should have, and Punk's obscene blade job comes far too early and gushes far too much for the point in the match that they are when it peaks."

[7.0] "[3.5*] I watched the Piper vs Sawyer at the Omni Dog Collar match and then the Punk vs MJF normal match before I watched this one. This is still pretty damn good but it's also by far the worst of the three. The funny thing is that I used to love this one, but it just has a mistake in its form. Dog Collars are just not meant to be 30-min slow-paced matches with a dead crowd. The match itself is almost great, but when you watch a Piper 10-min ecstatic and eletric Piper Dog Collar with tons of super fun comeback sequences, fists after fists and great selling, you can't help but notice that the structure was not ideal (the silence on the crowd for the majority of the match proves that). With that being said, it's a match where every fundamental is indeed greatly executed. The visual is nothing short of incredible, the selling and limb-work are great, they did some creative spots using the dog collar and the finish made sense within the story. Is very good, it just doesn't hold up in comparison with the pantheon of Dog Collar matches and with their spectacular Dynamite match."

Also in ring Id say their match on Dynamite had the better wrestling."
[10.0] "This entire feud is the greatest thing AEW has ever done and is one of my favourite stories in wrestling history so naturally this is my favourite match of the modern era. Everything about it just appeals to what I love about wrestling. High on drama and emotion, with solid in ring work that makes sense and furthers stories. Larger than life characters with believable motivations for hating each other and wanting to fight. Blood and weapons making everything feel dangerous. Basically everything I could ask for. Love the reincorporation of Punks old RoH move set to further the idea that MJF has brought this side back out of him, love the believable selling and weapon spots that impact the rest of the match and not just the next five minutes. Adored the Wardlow face turn. Perfect match."
[4.0] "I really love the buildup to this match. I think it might be the best thing AEW has done aside from a select few story lines. So I went into this match really wanting to like it and being willing to like it. I do think the blood in this match is pretty beautiful. But as for the match itself I found it kind of disappointing, kind of slow and not really reaching the violence that I expected it to have. Some of the moments do hit that spot but it really takes awhile for this match to get going for me. It's not a horrible match but a disappointment for sure."

This was a beautiful love letter to Piper vs Valentine and it had several callbacks, specially about CM Punk's career. The match was slow at some parts, but it had nice moves and a good usage of the stipulation. The ending was awesome, with Wardlow betraying MJF and giving the ring to Punk, peak storytelling, it was all very cinematic - {****1/2}"

[8.0] "This is one of those matches that delivered what I expected it to (hate-filled wrestling, logical selling, structure) but underwhelmed in a few other areas (crowd engagement and a few lackluster segments). The psychology of this whole thing was excellent. MF was not his usual smug self and took this match dead serious. Punk targeting MJF's hand with the chain was brilliant and MJF sold it perfectly. MJF targeted Punk's leg in return and it was great seeing both men sacrifice and fight through their injured body parts to inflict more damage onto one another. Both men sold the physicality of their match masterfully. Unfortunately there were a few dry sections and the crowd went quiet a few times. The finish was what it had to be. Great match overall. ****"
[9.0] "What a great match to end this feud, a culmination for a multilayered story that had three heroes, all of them got out of it looking like stars, or so it seemed at the time because Punk's run with AEW went downhill from here and Wardlow never reached anywhere near these heights again. Nonetheless, this was a great match but i didn't feel it was creative enough with the stipulation that they went for, but it was enjoyable and the finish was fantastic."

The match was representing an inexperienced and prepotent mjf learning how this estipulation works by the veteran teacher cm punk, using the dog collar on various forms, the only thing that wasn't very much needed was the wardlow moment, i know he was appart of a storyline with mjf but it was until that moment a match to the records in my eyes."

Max baiting the crowd with Cult of Personality at first before his music hits only for Punk to come out to Miseria Cantare and in full ROH gear. This match felt like pure catharsis for Punk. Brilliant heel work from Max, the Wardlow turn, and a bloody CM Punk walking out with the win."

The match is helped out by the great atmosphere in the arena which bumps it up a few points, but the match felt disjointed in places with MJF's promo during the match being the most egregious. I also feel that the use of thumbtacks took me out of the match a little bit because the inclusion of them just felt thrown in, as I believe a dog collar match works best when the collar is the only weapon used. However, the Wardlow face turn was done really well and the selling by Punk and MJF were great. ***1/4"
