Kurt Angle is great here, the match is at its best when he's I control of the match and he's always brought out the best in John Cena in the early stages of his career. Cena is good here too but he's still got a way to go as he can be quite sloppy in execution and can be quite limited. One thing that Cena grasped quite early on is his ability to connect with the audience and that will always be his strongest tool. He manages to get the crowd fired up whenever he needs to and it definitely heightens the drama of bout. Kinda wish the finish was a bit more interesting. Angle's need to take shortcuts being his downfall is a good story but it doesn't really have that big finish feel to it. Already, it's pretty easy to see the ingredients that'd define Cena's time on top of WWE, but he's still more blank slate than complete product at this point. By contrast, Kurt Angle is incredible here, steering the ship dilligently before locking in with some of the most focused limb work of his career. Even after almost twenty minutes, the finish feels a touch abrupt though, with this trending towards something more notable in their respective catalogues. ***3/4 |

The cocky, overconfident heel always hits when told well. Kurt wanted to F around with Cena's chain, but he quickly found out about the FU. Kurt was the perfect opponent for Cena here because it represented a coming of age of sorts as Cena debuted against Kurt but came up short. Here, he finally got a win over his rival as he propelled to the next step of superstardom. Why was Cena not Angle's retirement opponent? ! Ugh! |

Angle still wrestles like a machine and Cena shows a tremendous amount of heart. It was a great match where Cena thrived in the underdog situation. It was a physical match throughout with it spilling to the announce table early on in the match, then later Angle targeting the knees particularly using the ringpost was great. They work the crowd great here as well with Kurt initially getting cheered for in his home town, but they manage to turn the crowd around because of the great character work and in particular Angle's underhanded tactic turning them against him. I thought the selling from Cena was on point here as well where not only his facial expressions selling how painful the Ankle Lock is, but it plays to the finish as well where he hits the FU finisher on one leg! The ref bump was a nice tease for a Shawn Michaels run in, but I'm glad it didn't happen as Cena needed the clean win here. |

Just an incredible war of attrition between 2 of the best, both of them went into this with so much intensity that you couldn't help but get invested. Kurt utilized his technical arsenal as usual and wore down Cena slowly, but Cena continued to persevere, even when Kurt began targeting his leg with some truly gruesome ankle work. Despite having the Ankle Lock applied in the center of the ring, Cena managed to scratch and claw his way to the bottom rope to escape it, displaying some truly amazing selling in the process. This was before Cena's resilience became so commonplace that it was annoying, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. In the end Kurt attempted to cheat when the referee became incapacitated, but Cena hit him with the FU for the win. Incredible. This is a gem. ****1/2 |

Das größte Problem dieses Matches ist nämlich das schlechte Booking und wie eigentlich immer das schlechte Selling von Cena. Angle dominiert ab der Hälfte des Matches wie er will und hat Cena gefühlte 10 Minuten im Ankle-Lock. Und was macht Cena? Er gibt selbstredend nicht auf, steht auf, rammt Angle in die Ecke als wäre nichts gewesen, zeigt seinen FU und merkt dann das er doch eigentlich seinen Knöchel sellen müßte. Na, das wird halt beim auf den Gegener fallen und nach dem Match erledigt. Der Sieg war zwar irgendwie logisch und die WWE beweist zum zweiten Mal in Folge das sie versucht neue Leute bei Wrestlemania in das Rampenlicht zu bringen. Aber leider mußte der beste Wrestler (Kurt Angle) darunter leiden. Match ist nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht richtig gut. |
