Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness

[7.0] "Danielsons Dragon Sleeper was sick. Bryan decides specifically to not go for the ropes and taunt nigel by breaking free regardless. Danielson showing strong aggression. Great leg focus. Solid arm vs leg story that still makes me feel like Danielson is a league above McGuiness. Nigel showcased toughness and the possibility of beating Danielson in the future."

[8.0] "Well, it's Bryan and Nigel, you can't protest for what this monsters can do. The match had some rules that made them went into another draw and it was a bit short, only twenty minutes. However, we had tension, great technical wrestling being applied with submissions at the entire bout, most specific at the first fifteen minutes. Yeah, we ONLY had submissions during that time. And when the action indeed started and Nigel tried to apply the FIRST Tower of London, the time expired. Both guys was eliminated from the tournament, the crowd hate it, obviously, it was a stupid idea. However, Nigel and Bryan keep fighting even without the referee consent and Nigel locked Bryan into a arm submission, which he "tapped out". He did not won, it didn't worth absolutelly nothing and most important, I usually don't consider post matches action in my reviews, so why I am talking about that? Simple, because he showed for Bryan a message. It was like a whisper into his left ear saying slowly and patient "Now, I can beat you". Please, if you are reading this, imagine Nigel saying it. Sound fantastic in my head."

[5.0] "I'm not gonna lie, this was weak. The submissions they were doing were well done and some were creative, but this just didn't have the same sparks as their previous matches. It also felt some parts just dragged"

[8.0] "Nigel McGuinness was the ROH Champion for two weeks after he won the title from Takeshi Morishima. Nigel's character has changed a bit, and when he said this time in his promo that he is the future of the promotion and is currently the champion, he must defeat his old enemy, Bryan Danielson. Danielson's strategy was to destroy McGuinness' leg in any way possible, and he achieved his desired result by the end of the match. McGuinness only worked on Danielson's head and hit a few heavy lariats to Danielson's head. The storytelling of this match, although it revolves around a very limited range of motion, is very wonderful. Danielson's intention in damaging McGuinness' leg was to reduce McGuinness' leg strength, but there was no need for it, and to show him what a classic technique is and what an old machine can do. McGuinness was also excellent at kicking his leg in the length of the wrist. And in the end, neither of them gave up and this match was declared a time limit. Then McGuinness got angry. Why? Because he is currently the ROH Champ. As he says, he is the future of the promotion and he still hasn't been able to beat the person who humiliated him. Then, in his anger, McGuinness attacks Bryan and submits him and then Bryan taps out. This was McGuinness' first starting point and the tap out then Danielson's match gave him the motivation to have another match with him and to win next time....."

[9.0] "Bryan's gameplan of wrecking Nigel's leg is extremely fun to watch, Nigel's selling is very good + his counter armwork is great & all the matwork in the match is just excellent. I could say that the match is a bit of gem, given that no one really ever talks about it. The time limit draw finish is definitely quite anti-climatic, but it is still a great match even with that."

[5.0] "As much of a fan of their feud / series as I am, I barely remembered that this had even happened. Watching it now, I can see why. Not a bad match by any means, but it just feels kind of there. There Vegas crowd doesnt even get that into it and by the point that the announcer is saying how little time is left, even that barely amps them up. Not insulting them here, every match cant be a classic."

[6.0] "Was pretty bored by this one. This is their eighth singles match and the seventh I've watched consecutively. For me, the least notable of their matches. And thats including their first match in AWF in Sydney. Solid enough but the bar is high for these two. Time limit finish kind of came out of nowhere and Nigel unsuccessfully tried to get 5 more minutes."

[8.0] "This was a pretty good match but the twos weakest so far. Bryan attacks Nigels leg and Nigel attacks Bryans arm which was a callback to their series of matches the previous year. The match was more technical than physical with some pretty good sub stories being told here. The time runs out before anyone can take the win."

[7.0] "This was a well-worked, though paint-by-numbers 20 minute match for a tournament setting, it all built up to interesting post-match situation that was satisfying to good portion of fans in the audience."

[8.0] "Considering its status as a tournament qualifier and the twenty minute time limit this is a bit more of a reserved matchup between Bryan and Nigel. It doesn't have the intensity of some of their more lauded bouts, instead opting for a predominantly mat based encounter with a simple and effective story of Nigel working over the shoulder and Bryan working over the leg. This is all executed with the skill that you'd expect from these two and makes for a very enjoyable and competitive chess game of a match."

[9.0] ""No ropes needed! " At first they have clear strategies on how to put the other down. Just a thrilling match."

[6.0] "I gave this match *** stars out of 5. It had a twenty minutes time limit on it due to it being a part of a tournament, so they didn't go the usual time that these two men tend to go. Not a bad match, but not the greatest of their rivalry."

[8.0] "That was probably the best match at an SOTF event since Danielson/Aries in 2004. These guys have had a fine series of matches over the last couple of years and this was a worthy addition. This time they knew they were working with a shorter time limit so there was no lengthy, hesitant, tactical feeling out process from the bell, they got straight into the action and didn’t let up once in twenty minutes of engaging technical wrestling. And it was a match I’d like to show to all the Nigel doubters out there. He connected with just ONE lariat in the whole match, and even that was with his right, rather than his usual left arm. He sold the leg superbly well too, and his selling is something I’ve had an issue with in the past. They didn’t quite time the finish but that’s really my only complaint. Otherwise it was a fantastic match."
