The finish literally destroyed the perception of the match, the entire Reigns championship run, Demon Balor's gimmick, and overall common sense. It's unfortunate that Extreme Rules 2021 was so lousy, even though Extreme Rules 2020 is one of my favorite shows."

[7.0] "This was a pretty weird match to watch. The match itself was fine, we had some cool action, although I would have liked if The Demon had more control. The Demon's comeback sequence was very cool, it gave me chills and was something unique which I really appreciate. But, the ending was so freaking lame. How can you follow up such a cool sequence, with that finish? The ring ropes broke, Balor fell down and lost all his momentum, and Reigns won with a Spear. I didn't mind Reigns retaining, but this was so weird and unnecessary. If they didn't want to give Finn the belt, why even bother having The Demon? This would've been better if we just got the normal Finn Balor vs Roman Reigns, with a normal ending. WWE booked themselves into a corner with this one and failed to deliver. [***1/2]"

Starting with the Demon flopping like a fish in red light to the sudden hilarious turnbuckle break. It absolutely killed the Demon character and it did nothing for Reigns' credibility either. When you have an ending that bad, it doesn't really matter what happens before."

[6.0] "In the early stages of the match, no one could gain a substantial advantage, and Demon Finn also found it difficult to suppress Roman, indicating that they were evenly matched. Demon Finn's performance in the mid-to-late period was almost unbeatable (I'm referring to before the red light). After being thrown through the table, Demon Finn still had the ability to make a comeback, but Finn had to face three people, which led to him being knocked through the barricade by Roman. Here, Demon Finn displayed his first supernatural power, similar to The Fiend's red light, and it helped him to resurrect. After Demon Finn's resurrection, his strength increased significantly. His victory seemed almost inevitable, but he was still defeated by chance as he fell from the top rope and lost all his supernatural powers. This setup is interesting; it doesn't undermine Demon Finn's narrative strength and adds a supernatural element to his storyline."

Great heel offence from Reigns for a lot of the match but the Demon dominated for a long time to show his power and was cost victory by the turnbuckle which was a silly ending but didn't affect my enjoyment of the match."

So, I understand most people not liking it that match, but I think, objectively, it doesn't detract that much from the great action that happened before."

This match even had a bizarre moment with the rope breaking (mysteriously, without any explanation) and Balor losing because of it, a bad booking decision."

The stipulation is well used, the spots around the kick off table is interresting, even the visual representation of the Demon hulking up is actually quite cool - even if it doesn't makes a lot of sense. But that third rope breaking without a reason and, like that, breaking the demon "spell", it's just nonsense for nonsense while you could've actually had a pretty innovative finish, even with Roman winning ... 6/10, would've probably be a 8 without the finish."

It's incredible to say, but this Extreme Rules match gave me a real feeling of extreme: between the brawl among the crowd (with the fantastic moment in which Roman puts on his mask), the spots with the tables, the kendo sticks, it was a very entertaining match that managed to live up to its stipulation. Unfortunately my rating is heavily influenced by the terrible ending, where the rope breaks without the slightest sense and Reigns wins thanks to divine providence. In general, a very enjoyable match heavily damaged by the ending"

The rules for the match were the adequate ones, including the intromission of The Usos. The heartbeating revival of Balor was pretty nice, but was pretty bad conducted with the third rope collapse. I mean, this is just what is needed to take down the demon? to cup a rope? damn, pretty bad thinking in this. Overall, I liked the match, the pace, the intensity, but the end was pure trash. I get that it was meant to protect the competitors but I don't think it did. It was actually offensive to anyone who got invested in this match previously. MAYBE it could be saved if there was a storyline reason, but it doesn't appear that that's the case. It's just.....bad. He either uses a low blow or is assisted by the Uso brothers. Therefore, there is simply no point in using him as a demon killer. As a matter of fact, little in the match was logical. I don't like the demon Balor's obaz, but unfortunately, at the core, this is the only thing that could give him a promotion."

We can very well see the step up between Reigns' weekly match against Balor and this match against Balor as the demon. I'm one of the few people here who liked the ending since I think the fact that it brings the idea of chance in Reigns' win is interesting. It doesn't discredit at all Balor's demon character since it's just one loss, and the goal of a winning streak is simply to lose a match. I even think that Reigns was the right person to be the first one to beat him. ***1/2"

"A majority of the match was slightly above average which is not nearly enough to make up for the finish. This is tragically a recurring theme with the match, everything good has a contradicting detail that leaves you scratching your head or sighing at the sheer repetition. Reigns putting a mask on before going in the crowd would be a really funny heel move (which the commentators attempt to sell it as) in any other period of time, but given the current circumstances of our world, it's ironically just a very respectable choice. Balor's 'resurrection' was laughably cheesy but could have been alright with a better finish, instead it was literally pointless and contributed nothing to either character or the storyline. Spear through the barricade was a nice spot but just like most things Roman has done in the latter half of his reign, we've already seen it done better in the first. That being said, God himself acknowledging Roman Reigns was really funny and there was not a single doll involved so things could be much, much worse."

[1.0] "Normally Roman's lack of emotion just makes things boring but it actually was awesome to see him not even sell this guy painted in black, scowling and growling. The match itself was exactly like most Roman matches you've seen up to this point climaxing in the signature barricade spear. Only, then, something amazing happened: The Demon's heartbeat reverberated throughout the arena, and the lifeless corpse of the vessel known as Finn Balor began pulsating in tune (and then not so much in tune) with the heartbeat, all before the music and body swelled to a rise. The Demon's music continued to play as he made a comeback and led a flurry of attacks on Reigns. Finally back in the ring, it seemed like The Demon would hit the final blow from the top of the turnbuckle, but then the ropes collapsed and the music stopped. The Demon laid out on the ground now was holding his knee. Reigns speared him and won. This match was bad before the Resurrection of The Demon but it got worse after that and looped back around to being incredible. Therefore I cannot give this a zero like most rational people might give it, instead I give it a 1."

But then Balor went to the top rope and... yeah. The match itself wasn't as good as Omega vs. Moxley to kind of separate it from the finish, so the only thing that fans will remember from this match is this finish. After an attack by the Usos, Finn's lights go to red and Finn... convulses and gets up to beat the shit out of Roman. There was a lot of smoke and with the red lights (plus Finn's distracting music) it was hard to tell what was happening. Roman took a few chair shots and was sent through a table, it looked great. But that finish is one of the worst finish of a world title match that I've ever seen. Not only that, but it may be one of the worst PPV finish, and Main-Event finish ever. Like what the hell were they thinking while writting that ? Like we're supposed to believe that Reigns retained because ... God help him, against the Demon, who was doing his ... demonic comeback that was about to make him win the title ? This was a sh! tty idea, it was awful."

The heartbeat/music/red lights was a pretty cool touch and felt like something out of an anime, but right when the momentum was high for Balor and the crowd's excitement was high, the top rope busted and Balor fell. I don't know if that was legit or intentional, but if it were intentional, shame on WWE for allowing that to ruin what was a great match up until that point along with this storyline. Good on Roman to hit the spear in the end to wing it, I kinda believe it was a legit accident with that, and the way Balor fell was hard to watch in instant replays. If it's part of the storyline, then I'm officially done with Main Roster WWE. Just like Alexa, Balor's Demon King Character is supernatural, and I never thought I would see the day where the WWE would destroy one of the most special characters not only in all of WWE, but Pro Wrestling. Just like Alexa, they made his supernatural character look weak and not at all powerful with that finish just like they did for Alexa in her finish. WWE must love making supernatural characters look weak and powerless."

The match was pretty good, and although the finish didn't particularly make The Demon look good, it did paint Roman Reigns as fortunate, but that's not for the first time in this reign, remember the Royal Rumble when if not for a poorly positioned referee, he'd have lost the title to Kevin Owens? Bálor was never going to be the champion, but the match did make people think that Reigns will be in trouble against Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia, and that's the one WWE are really trying to sell."

It seems that WWE could do everything just for Roman to retain his title. This time there is a broken top rope, what's next? A dropped ceiling? A collapsed ring? A stray bullet? A nuclear bomb? We want to watch professional wrestling instead of nonsense comedy! I feel that I has been badly insulted, and not only because of I am a fan of Finn."

They put over "The Demon" as this unknowable force of nature, and he starts the match with a fucking lockup. Then he does a pretty cool "I'm going to try to unhinge your jaw" submission that he never does anything with for the rest of the match. Roman gets a stick, Finn gets a bunch of sticks taped together with the colors in his paint, hits Roman with it 3 times, and stops using it. The crowd pops bigger for a table setup than most of Finn's offense, and Finn gets a Rock Bottom through the table for his trouble. They then decide to brawl through the crowd, and this is where the weird decisions really start. Roman needs to mask up during this entire segment because of his leukemia, and I totally respect that he needs to do that, but WHY do this sequence at all if your champion is immunocompromised? All they do is stand on the desk from the pre-show, tease going through it, and just go through another table next to it instead. Finn drags Roman back to the ring rendering that entire segment worthless since you could've done another table bump near the ring. They just keep doing shit, and the Usos show up, and they do big spots. Then the Demon's heartbeat becomes an audiovisual element of the match and I die of laughter. I honestly thought the moment of the lights changing and the music hitting and the smoke machines going off as Finn no-sells everything and makes a huge comeback was so absurd that it was fun (it's some Lucha Underground shit), but then they had to dump it with the worst fucking excuse for a way to "protect" a guy in defeat since a monitor blew up in Dean's face. If Finn's gonna get this moment, let him win OR have his stomp break the entire ring like the Big Show Superplex and they go to a No Contest. Having the ropes give way for zero reason at all, having all the magical presentation immediately disappear, and having The Demon sell his knee and get speared before losing is so bad I'd think they had it out for Finn, but honestly they might've just thought this was actually good. A shame since the two guys in the match proper put in a good effort while surrounded by all this shit. ***"

Uso involvement is so overdone but it actually benefitted the story and made Balor look strong by disposing of them on his own. Then we get to the finishing stretch, where Balor has a cheesy hulk up moment and then destroys Reigns, beating him with a chair and then just throws him into a table. Balor gets Reigns in the ring, he goes up... and the rope explodes. For no reason. It seemed it was intended to make Reigns victory seem like "a miracle" but in reality it just made Balor look like a moron. Good match overall, but the awful finish removes 1/4 of a star for me. [1.0] "This is what happens when, firstly, completely unnecessary rules are added to matches (yes, these are Extreme Rules, but there are 5 more matches in the card that can be foisted tables and chairs), and secondly, when WWE wants to "protect" two wrestlers at the same time. I have no complaints about the first part of the match, this is the standard for this type, but closer to the climax, almost every moment made me ask "why are they doing this? ". Why did Reigns put on a mask while beating Balor? What did he want to do, standing on a glass table? Okay, I fucking liked Finn's rage, and even though it was strange and too much in the style of The Fiend, he really destroyed Roman, and this could be the beginning of a gorgeous ending, no matter how long this moment lasted. But then... This is similar to WWE's attempt to create a hype around a stupid ending to a match, as it was with Rollins and The Fiend two years ago. But there I could understand the motivation and why the characters behaved like that, I could also understand what they got from such an ending, and in which direction their character would develop after the show. Here, previously undefeated in the form of a Demon, Finn Balor, who looks like an absolute idiot and a loser, who was punished by God for devilish body art, and Reigns, one of the most dominant wrestlers in the new generation, won due to pure chance, and this is before the match with Brock Lesnar. I have no idea what is happening with this promotion, and how you can watch it without foaming at the mouth. Perhaps the match itself, just like a wrestling match, wasn't bad, but its value tends to zero because of such an ending. Balor's character is dead, it was the only chance to present him as a threat in the main roster, but they missed him, smashing him to smithereens. Reigns, as usual, is a stumbling block, because of which other wrestlers can't develop normally (1/2*)."

While I enjoyed the camp shenanigans of Bray Wyatt's infernal persona The Fiend and the supernatural drama Lucha Underground, the paranormal comeback of "The Demon" (which the commentary overused to a horrendous degree - just say Finn Balor, the audience won't get mad) was horribly structured. I suppose the action that came after was hype, but the finish was so atrocious that Balor's spasming on the ground just felt less fun camp and more dweeb camp. I expected far more from the company that put on Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles at Extreme Rules 2016, which was an incredibly exciting match that showcased Reigns' potential. Reigns himself showed another fine performance, and the match until the end was also decent."
