417.02.2024benny5bellys7.0Tenryu humbling a young punk is a pro wrestling genre to itself. Just a little too one sided to be anything great.

1529.12.2021Lakhiarfarhad919.0Tenryu came to this match to teach the overconfident, arrogant and disrespectful Shibata a lesson. And he did that in a brutal fashion. He dropped Shibata multiple times on his head with brainbusters and a nasty DDT from the apron on the floor. Shibata kept resisting the onslaught and brought some stiff offense of his own but Tenryu damaged his head so much he couldn't continue. Loved the little smile on Tenryu's face after he pinned Shibata. Awesome match. 8.50/10

1815.04.2020arrancar6.0I knew this would be a sprint, and it was ultimately quite good, but with as great as both men were, I expected quite a bit more. Tenryu jumping Shibata on the ramp and throwing him into the crowd made for a wild start, and Shibata responded in the only way he knew how -- with a bunch of vicious strikes. Tenryu then went from toying with Shibata to being enraged with his displays of hubris. As punishment, he hit Shibata with a series of beautiful brainbusters and then a damn HANGING DDT OFF THE ROPE TO THE FLOOR OUTSIDE THE RING. There was a floor mat there, but still, that was really dangerous and crazy, and definitely the highlight of the match. Tenryu's control period continued to feature some great strikes and power moves, and Shibata was awesome at eating all of Tenryu's offence before getting one big burst of energy to fire back with more of his brutal strikes. Eventually, Tenryu's output became too much for Shibata to continuously withstand, allowing Tenryu to get the win after some worked-shoot punches. This had periods and moments of greatness, but it keep falling into lulls where both men weren't doing anything too interesting and were just preparing for their next big stiff strike exchange. The offence was also pretty repetitive, which held the match back a bit because the most significant moments mostly just featured a bunch of kicks and slaps. This was definitely still enjoyable, especially for having so much packed into only 9 minutes, but they definitely could have had a far better match if allowed to go longer (and I'm sure they could have maintained that angry, explosive energy even if they did so). ***1/4

2508.01.2018TJQ8.0Insanity. Everything about this match was crazy, starting from Tenryu jumping Shibata making his way down the ramp and throwing him into the crowd, and peaking with that insane DDT from the apron to the floor. There was no upward trajectory from there, but the rest of the match was still very enjoyable. Great sprint ****
2608.01.2018NastyYaffa9.0Tenryu makes his entrance first. Then out comes Shibata to a pretty weird sounding Deep Purple ripoff theme - Tenryu is wasting no time, as while Shibata is still walking down the ramp, he starts walking towards him, which leads to Shibata running towards him too & they collide for the first time in this match. Tenryu throws Shibata to the crowd. AWESOME. Shibata makes his way back to the ring & starts kicking the crap out of Tenryu. He gets a nice little control segment doing exactly that, and after that it's very 50/50 with the two just destroying each other. There's also a legitimate holy shit spot in there. A goddamn great sprint. ****1/4

2910.04.2016JxhDel6.0Shibata, as usual in that period, is trying to get himself over by beating some old veteran, and it looks like he has to chance to bring down old Tenryu. However, not so easily. *** - ***1/4
