Shawn Michaels and Triple H were fucking bloody messes in this match. The fans were cheering like crazy for Benoit. I absolutely loved the way Shawn broke up the sharpshooter by kicking Benoit's head-off. Loved this match"

[9.0] "An intense showcase for all three competitors, but it's Chris Benoit who truly stands out. From the opening brawl, the crowd was firmly behind him, chanting "Let's Go Benoit" throughout the match. The action flows seamlessly between the three, mixing technical wrestling, high-impact suplexes, and brutal brawling. Key moments like Benoit countering a Pedigree into a Sharpshooter on Triple H, HHH blocking Michaels' tap to Benoit's Crossface, and the two-man table slam spot create memorable nearfalls and high drama. The match does what triple threats should do without feeling overly repetitive: every pin and submission attempt feels significant, the chemistry between the three men sells the chaos convincingly, and the crowd is invested every step of the way. Benoit's in-ring storytelling shines, particularly in his final stretch with Triple H, applying the Crippler Crossface until HHH taps clean, giving a decisive and satisfying finish. I love how Triple H's final tactic, trying to roll Benoit up, STILL ends up backfiring on him. While triple threats often suffer from overused "finish break-ups, " this one avoids that pitfall and allows Benoit's victory to feel earned and historic. The blend of technical skill, creative spots, and crowd engagement makes this a standout bout in WWE history. ****1/2"

I loved everything about this. There were both great spots and small details that made everything even better. Crazy blade jobs pulled off by both HBK and HHH. The selling was excellent by all three men. Benoit was his usual intense self and the crowd was firmly behind him even going as far as booing HBK at certain points of the match. I thought this was just incredible and executed to perfection."

His story was very emotional and drew a lot of people's attention. Eddie coming out to celebrate with him was such a cool visual. The actual match itself was nothing short of spectacular. Job well done."

Benoit would go on to tarnish his name and legacy and should rightly so be considered a monster but this match, as a wrestling match, is everything."

[10.0] "This match almost has an untouchable aura to it. The greatest Wrestlemania main event that no one's supposed to talk about, but god damn is this match just perfection. Don't see a point in breaking this down spot by spot, but man the table spot was kickass, Shawn standing in the ring bloody and beaten but still having enough strength to goad HHH. Benoit, being the guy no one expected to ever be in this spot but everyone wanted to cheer for, finally getting that Wrestlemania moment after everything looked lost and HHH was about to sneak out w the title one more time. Something about that image of Benoit crouching with the title in his face, sobbing his heart out has stuck with me more than perhaps any other moment in wrestling history The celebration with Eddie is just that tragic cherry on top. I would give this match over a 10/10 if I could, I seriously can't find many flaws here."

[10.0] "Undoubtedly one of the best matches in Wrestlemania history. Despite WHC title on the line and the third participant, match was centred around rivarly between HHH and HBK who tried to eliminate Benoit from their business, but eventually that didn't occur. Devastating battle with stiff chops, suplexes, springboard moves and submissions - literally everything happened here. Post-match JR emotional speech and Benoit's in-ring interaction with Eddie Guerrero would land in WWE's legacy book for forever, but obvious circumstances erased this match from history."

[10.0] "My personal favorite Wrestlemania match, it has everything. Separating the art from the artist, Benoit was truly a "blink and you miss him" wrestler, a one of a kind if you will. His in-ring ability was tremendous, his vast array of submission holds and overall talent makes him one of the greats of his time. Then again, his actions cannot be forgiven or forgotten, he still did what he did and there is (unfortunately) no way of changing that. I am truly confident in saying that Benoit would have been inducted into the HoF had he not done what he did. He was incredibly over with this crowd and that celebration after was something special. One of the all time greatest matches at WM, and it's a shame it will never be truly acknowledged by WWE again."

[10.0] "Just like everyone else, I think that Benoit acts can not be forgiven and it's normal to think about those when you see his matches, just like you think about Eddie's death while you're watching his contests. With this said, when you focus on this you can't not appreciate the spectacular triple threat they put on in the main event of WM 20. Perhaps the greatest main event in WM history, surely if you exclusively look to his in-ring action. They perfectly alternated, never stopped ang put an enormous effort. There are no mistakes, everything flows in a perfect way. The near falls are well executed and the moment when HHH and HBK joined forces to get Benoit out of the way was perfect. The final sequence was perfect too, an outstanding ending to an outstanding main event. The underdog conquered the World Heavyweight Championship by overcoming the greatest wrestlers in WWE, and the satisfaction in perfectly represented in the storytelling, in the end you are truly happy for Benoit and his fantastic win. Magic."

[10.0] "What Benoit did in June 2007 robbed so much from the world. Most importantly, he robbed his young son and wife of their lives, their future and what they could have given to the world. In the world of wrestling, he robbed fans of the opportunity to ever appreciate his matches the way they did when they were wrestled. Having started watching wrestling on the other side of the tragedy, I can never watch any of Benoit's matches without having the thought in my mind that, in the not too distant future from whenever he wrestled, he would do something so evil and heinous. The specter of that evil resonates back, and I struggle to divorce Benoit the wrestler with Benoit the murderer. There is probably no clearer case of this than the Wrestlemania XX Triple Threat Main Event. If we were to divorce this match from the context of everything that came after, this is maybe the greatest Wrestlemania main event ever, at least in the top 3. All 3 workers, Michaels, Helmsley, and Benoit, were firing on all cylinders, and delivered a match with an intoxicating mixture of violence and technical mastery. The ending of the match, and the celebration that followed with Eddie Guerrero and then Benoit's family, were immediately such iconic images in the canon of Wrestlemania. Within three and a half years, the images became perhaps the most haunting in the sport. This match will never make its way into the list of top Wrestlemania matches WWE is compiling, its reputation can never be acknowledged by the promotion thanks to the utter selfishness and depravity of its victor. Even still, WWE essentially tried to emulate the spirit of this match ten years later at Wrestlemania XXX, perhaps to make up for the sour taste that was now in everyone's mouth and try to give fans good, untainted memories of an underdog Wrestlemania triple threat main event winner. That fact alone speaks to the impact and quality of the match."

"The match was good. Nancy Benoit never gets her flowers. What her husband did to her is too overshadowing, too cruel, for her to really be given the coverage she deserved. Nancy Benoit's list of managed wrestlers reads as a who's who of the alternate wrestling scene of the late 80's/early 90's. In her short time in WCW, she was attached to both Kevin Sullivan and Ric Flair, accompanying the Four Horsemen to the ring. More well known for her time in ECW, she was partnered with Sandman and was well known for attacking his rivals with his signature singapore cane. Because wrestling hates women, she was called Woman. Because wrestling hates women, she was paired off with Chris Benoit in an adultery angle in WCW. Because wrestling hates women, she's a victim and not a talent. Her last wrestling appearance was in 1997, and her exit was never given any explanation or denouement. A thirteen-year career ended and was barely mentioned again on TV until what happened happened. She was seen as an expendable commodity by an industry that spits out flesh and bones, but she got out with her health and her family, until she didn't. Her husband, her murderer, is seen as a technical wrestling icon. Some can separate Wrestlemania XX's main event, or any other match of his, from what he did. Wrestlemania XX's main event is a masterful grappling contest, and a showcase for how submission wrestling can be used in a compelling babyface performance. It is also 1198 days before Nancy Benoit's body was found, a time when she was alive, filing for divorce and a restraining order against her husband. When she died, she was only 43. After Nancy was killed, Hustler magazine published nude photos of her. WWE isn't right about many things, but scrubbing Chris Benoit from the history books is the correct move. Nancy Benoit deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame, but her ghost looms too large to ever put her in. In an industry of murderers, rapists, bigots and thieves, she deserves that much at least."

HBK and Benoit had unbelievable chemistry with each other and their matches around this time always delivered. And while HHH/HBK matches can be hit or miss for me, they were great together here. Almost a surreal feeling that night, because up until this point it didn't feel like 'guys like Benoit and Eddie' could be world champions. Like I don't think anyone would've been shocked if this match ended with Triple H winning via pedigree, which made it all the more satisfying when that wasn't the result. And then the celebration, of course, is legendary."

[8.0] "[4.0*] I love the fact that this match is universally rated as great. From 733 votes, 730 are an 8.0 or higher with zero 6.0s or lower. As a wrestling match, it is a great triple threat and a MOTYC. The action was very good from start to finish but in the first half the crowd was not very much into it, just for some specific spots. It all changed after HBKs Sweet Chin Music to Triple H, where Benoit pulled HHH at the last second to keep his chances. At this moment the crowd started to fully invest themselves in Benoit winning. It has a similar vibe to the Bryan vs Orton vs Batista match where people only wanted Bryan to win, not the other two politics (with all due respect to the 4 of them, absolute legends). Shawn got a crimson mask early on the match and later Hunter started to bleed to, which helped the atmosphere a lot. The chemistry was never an issue there, which is impressive because this was the first Triple Threat for a World Title at a WrestleMania ever. Benoit won after he made HHH tap-out with the Crossface and people went just nuts. The post match is even better than the match itself, with Benoit crying with the belt on his hands and Eddie coming to the ring to celebrate with him. They started crying together and they hugged, in a night that ended with both as World Champions. Absolutely fantastic and emotional post-match segment, I really think this is the major reason for this super high average rating. Fair enough, tho."

The action and pace are more than steady, and although it does suffer from three-way-itis, they do a good job of incorporating the odd man out into the shape of the match- every time anyone gets an advantage, the third man comes in and interrupts. It helps that the rowdy msg crowd is solidly behind behind [redacted] who rightly wins this one. Standout performances from the other players- Michaels, who gets some fantastic color, and it should be noted the great job that Hebner does as referee in this match. Great call from JR as well. And yes, Triple H plays an important part of making this match work as well as it does. Once he gets color, the match kicks into its third and highest gear. Is this the greatest mania main event of all time? Possibly, but it is rightly forgotten due to the actions the winner a few years later."

[9.0] "So this match kinda feels like the triple threat match is a brand new concept, so theres a bit of back and forth at the beginning about the stipulation, and interest in how everyone is going to go about fighting one another. Because this is a triple threat though, and featuring Benoit and Shawn, the work rate is wildly high at the beginning of the match. Benoit and Shawn go back and forth with some gorgeous chops and both trying to get at Triple H, Benoit and Shawn just have some super intense chain wrestling, followed by Benoit bridging up in an insane feat of strength. Benoit from the beginning is trying to hit the crossface, and doing a great job of keeping up the intensity. Shawn goes for a skinning the cat moment, sends Benoit to the outside, and starts working on Triple H, who is the most tanned any human has ever been. Triple H hits a Harley Race knee and goes for the first pitfall attempt a couple minutes in, then goes outside to work with Benoit. Drives Benoits back into the edge of the ring a couple times, Shawn hits a baseball slide, climbs to the top rope, and hits a pretty Orihara moonsault from the top rope. He gets HHH back in the ring to cover him, kick out at two. Triple H hits a facebuster and teases going for the pedigree on Shawn, Benoit breaks it up and starts working over Shawn, sends him into the ring post through the turnbuckle. Hits a nice snap suplex on HHH, chops him in the corner, and then gets Irish whipped into the turnbuckle sternum first. HHH puts Benoit then on the top rope and into the tree of woe, works over his midsection, and goes back to Shawn to irish whip him into Benoit. First semi sloppy spot of the match where Shawn tries to reverse Irish whip HHH into the corner for Benoit to hit him with a boot while still upside down in the tree of woe but the aim just isnt there. Shawn goes for a p and then has a back and forth with HH, Michaels does his comeback spot with the kip up, but Benoit interrupts it to clothesline him over the top rope to the outside. Benoit goes for the German suplex trio on HHH and after a little back and forth hits them. Sells going up for the Headbutt from the top rope, but Shawn comes back into the ring and makes him lose his footing. Shawn goes for a Sweet Chin Music on Triple H but is sent to the outside, Triple H goes back to Benoit still on the top rope, after some back and forth Trips is able to hit a superplex on Benoit, kick out at 2. Covers him 2 times after that as Benoit kicks out, and crowd rallies behind Benoit. After some back and forth Triple H goes for the pedigree on Benoit, reversed into a crossface attempt which gets locked on for the first time in the match, Shawn comes in to break it up. Shawn goes for Benoits three suplexes but gets it reversed after the first German and Benoit hits them on Shawn who sells them like fucking death. Benoit heads up to the top rope and hits the flying headbutt on Michaels, pin but near fall kick out at 2, and another pitfall and kickoff by Benoit. Shawn makes his comeback and lies in the center of the ring as Triple H stirs, does his kip up and an atomic drop on Triple H, some clotheslines as he heats up, scoop slam, and heads to the top rope for the elbow. Hits it on Triple H and pops up, heads into the corner to tune up the band, and hits a sweet chin music on triple H. As he goes for the pinball, Benoit pulls Triple H out of the ring. Michaels works over Benoit outside the ring, sends him back inside, and chops him in the corner. Shawn is Irish whipped into the corner, does his Shawn/Flair rope a dope. Benoit goes for the sharpshooter, then launches Shawn into the ring post, Shawn gigs (really well, it was so smooth), and then Benoit goes and locks in the crossface on Shawn. As he thinks about tapping, Triple H grabs his hand to stop him from tapping, then pummels Benoit to stop the hold. They head outside the ring and Benoit gets sent into the ring steps. Trips starts clearing off the smackdown announce table, they work on the top of the table going back and forth. Triple H teasing the pedigree, then Shawn comes back, a bloody mess, and all three men are standing on the table, and they double suplex Benoit onto the announce table, completely flattening him. Shawn heads back into the ring, points at HHH. This moment feels like it should be a lot bigger than the crowd reacts to. Shawn irish whips Trips into the corner and Triple H LAUNCHES himself to the outside over the turnbuckle, and now hes gigged himself, so theyre both bloody messes as they move back into the middle of the ring. HHH hits a pedigree on Shawn but sells being too tired to take advantage of it as Benoit starts to stir on the outside. He covers Shawn with one hand but Benoits able to get into the ring to break up the count, and now all three men lie prostrate on the ring mat. Triple H starts doing a really stupid face selling his blood loss, Benoit fights back and chops him all over the ring, gets hit with a knee, trips goes for the pedigree, reverses it into the sharpshooter and Triple H sells it like hes dying. He crawls to the rope for a rope break, Benoit moves him back to the middle of the ring, and then Shawn pops into the ring to blast Benoit with a sweet chin music out of nowhere. Benoit covers benoit who kicks out at 3. Shawn heads to the corner to tune up the band and try to hit another sweet chin music on Benoit, who ducks it and sends Michaels over the ropes. As he turns around Triple H goes for a pedigree, reversed into a crossface. Triple H reaches for the ropes and cant reach them, starts to fade. Benoit rolls over and gets him again in the middle of the ring. Cranks back and gets Triple H to tap. Very very good match. For the main event of Wrestlemania I think they could have pulled off a few more good false finishes that would have had the crowd in the palm of their hands. Its not a 10/10 for me because I think there was a final gear to kick the match into that would have made it compa"

The table spot was absolutely the moment of the match with Triple H and Shawn reluctantly working together and absolutely chucking Chris through the announce table with reckless abandon was a pretty amazing visual. Both Michaels and Triple H knew their place, they knew that they weren't the main stars and everybody played nicely to it, especially when they took out Benoit with a table spot and made the crowd think that Shawn and Hunter were just going to make it about themselves. Additionaly the finish was great and they milked Chris' Crossface fantastically, as you had no idea whether Hunter was going to tap. Hunter and Shawns rivalry, Benoit and Hunters Rumble rivalry, and Benoit and Shawns mutual respect. The action is fast paced and all three men are firing on all cylinders. Shawn makes for a great red herring as he could have actually won, Trips plays the chicken shit heel amazingly, and Benoit plays the underdog to a Tee. The finish is also masterfully done with Hunter getting his strength back in the cross face which makes you think hes getting out of it until Benoit rolls over and locks it in the middle of the ring. And then theres the after match celebration. One of the most depressing things in wrestling history. Its extremely sad and bittersweet going back and seeing Benoit and Eddie celebrating together happily knowing theyd both be gone in just 3 years. Its a damn shame they both passed away, and especially the way they did. If I had to sum this match up in a single sentence, it would be Wrestlemania 30s main event but better in every way. Definitely in the top 5 best Mania main events of all time."

There are definitely some great moments, such as Michaels literally throwing himself into a superkick to break-up a pinfall toward the match's end, and the final crossface makes for a tense climax and satisfying catharsis. All three performers were great here, and a special shoutout to HBK for his suberb blade job; his face is awash with his own blood by the bout's conclusion. In spite of all this, I still feel that the match ends just before it enters all-time great good territory. I actually think this match needed more time, as the nearly twenty-five minutes it was allocated was insufficient to build as much tension as could otherwise have been achieved. I was also bothered by how quickly Benoit recovered from being put through the announcers' table; his breaking of HHH's pin pn HBK following a pedigree was also too sudden and lacked impact, thus depriving the match of what could have been a truly dramatic nearfall. Still, this is definitely one of the best matches in Mania history and a definite must-watch for any wrestling fan. ****"

[8.0] "Truly one of the all time great WWE matches, and it's such a shame the company can't put this match up there whenever they talk about greatest Wrestlemania moments because of what Benoit would do later in his life. And while this match isn't my favorite triple threat match, it's in the top three for sure. This is what a main event should feel like. Michaels selling, Triple H's technique, and Benoit's aggressive attitude all mix and boil perfectly here. The match builds up throughout, and the timing of all three was perfect. Everyone is perfectly in place for each spot. No one misses a beat, and it really sells the desire to win so well that everyone is right on time. The highlights for me will always be Michaels kicking Benoit's head off while he has the Sharpshooter on, and Triple H grabbing Michael's hand to stop him from tapping. Now, while this is an incredible match, I still can't hold it higher than 8 points because it follows the generic triple threat match formula. To be clear, this is the absolute best example of how to make a match magnificent while using a formula, but it still keeps it a bit cliche even still. There's always a moment where someone is eliminated for a while so it breaks down into a small singles match until the combatants rotate out. For me, the main event of Vengeance 2002 is the true peak of triple threat matches, and mostly breaks any molds, but that's not to take away from this match at all. A classic match that everyone should see. Maybe just a touch overrated, but not by much."

The mini rivalry between Triple H and HBK, and Benoit playing the ultimate underdog really made this match, despite the story telling the match was brilliant as well. The finish was great with Benoit ending it with his signature Crossface. I loved this match so much."

All 3 looked fantastic going in, it was a great continuation of the feud between Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and a wonderful culmination of Benoit's rise to the top of mountain, with his moment with Eddie being the cherry on top, however painful it is in hindsight."

Unfortunately that has left a stain on this match to most people and its been largely forgotten by the wwe and fans alike. But to me this is a match I still go back and watch at least once a year its a special match to me. Just the whole atmosphere and performances of every man involved and with it being the Garden on the 20th mania its a special match. A fantastic match that to me is the greatest triple threat ever. Fantastic performance from HBK and HHH held his own and of course Benoit always delivered. Special special match 5/5"

Phenomenal match with great storytelling competing Benoit's long journey to the title as well as continuing a two year long feud between HHH and Michaels. Its a bloody and physical match and they take full advantage of the triple threat stipulation because there's rarely a dead spot in the match, which is not easy to do in this type of match. All three are at their very best here and it's another match that's well known for the fan reactions as they unanimously support Benoit despite Michaels also being face. There's actually only one moment here where you see two wrestlers gang up on one wrestler and thats the surprising moment where Triple H and Michaels work together to suplex Benoit through an annoce table which took him out of the match for awhile which later on lead to a great comeback. Another great moment is when Benoit has Triple H in the sharp shooter and Michaels almost beats him with the Sweet Chin Music. Phenomenal spot. Benoit's eventual win where he has Triple H in the crossface for a long period of time is a great finish. Sadly it's a tainted moment now, but Benoit and Guerrero celebrating together was a very emotional moment at the time."

The MSG crowd is rooting for Benoit all the way and even boos Shawn Michaels. The Michaels and Benoit interactions that we did end up getting in this match were great tho. Triple H and Michaels both bleed gushers that look great, especially Shawn's. All of the big spots here were perfectly executed like Triple H stopping Shawn from tapping out, Shawn Michaels superkick on Benoit when Triple H was in the sharpshooter and that beautiful table spot where Triple H and Shawn Michaels put Benoit through the table.Everyone here all had great performances, and they all brought great intensity to this match. The tension with the crossface at the end was great and Benoit tapping Triple H out felt earned, got a big pop and was a big deal. The only issue I have with this match is the fact that Shawn Michaels just randomly disappears for the finish but other than that this was fantastic.****3/4"

The blade work on HBK is stellar, Benoit is as silky smooth in grapples as alwayds, HHH incredible presence and story telling. Too many beautiful and succint moments to pin down. Fantastic match, gripping, engaging, exciting, blood, heavy, and a fitting finish."

But now I am 22, Turning 23 this year I have to rate this Match 5 stars! I think it has something to do with the fact that everyone sells Perfectly! One great moment I recall is Benoit being hung in the Tree of Woe and HHH Throws Michaels with Such Vigor and Force that Shawn Almost Leaves his feet and Blows Benoit Practically up with the Amount of force! Another spot with is remember by all is Benoit Catapulting Michaels to the Steel Post and Michaels begins to bleed! When he turns his head and revealed the blood to the crowd *Gasp* a Audible Gasp is heard in the Arena and they are Hooked by that Moment! Michaels is Fresh Blood in the Water for the Shark that is Chris Benoit! My Favorite Spot is really the Last 5 Minutes in the Match! Benoit Hooks in the Sharpshooter and get's Knocked out with the Sweet Chin Music by Michaels and Michaels Pins both Benoit and Helmsley and get's a two count, He sets up for Sweet Chin Music and is Reversed and thrown to the outside over the top rope by Benoit! Triple H tries to take advantage and goes for the pedigree and it's reversed into the Crossface by Mr. Benoit and after two Minutes of "Benoit Ripping and Tearing" Chris Benoit wins the World Heavyweight Championship in the Main Event of Wrestlemania XX: Where it all Begins...Again! Eddie and Chris, "The WWE Champion and the World Champion, in the Same Ring, at the Same time" is one of the greatest Moments in Wrestling History! This Wrestlemania had some good and had some bad! This Match was the Diamond! I mean that, and for this match to go on last, it was Honestly Perfect! I always thought the rematch next month was just as good! gonna have to review that one! Bye Everyone! Stay Safe and Take Care!"
