While, I disliked the whole part of the match where Saki dominated Giulia and dictated the pace on her terms. It foreshadowed the previous and lesser interesting version of Saki. Giulia provided this match the break to catch some breath and carried it with her on spot shotgun dropkicks. She then connects with all the big moves in her move pool but Saki channels the courage, determination and resiliency in her to improve chances in the tournament. She attempts to trap Giulia in a variety of pinning predicaments and it finally clicks for her as she is able to ground Giulia , shoulders down to the mat for a 3 count. ***1/2 |

Some rather hard hits were thrown as well, which is always a plus. Giulia showed her range as a performer, with spectacular moves I hadn't seen from her before, such as a Baldo Bomb. Kashima's dirty fighting was met with energetic counterattacks from Giulia, and the tension built nicely. Finest Kashima singles performance I can think of. ***3/4 |

At the same time, Saki did seem to get rocked after the match with SLK last week, so there was reason to expect a slightly lesser match. Thankfully, this match was as I hoped: 10 minutes of rule-bending action, with Giulia facing a different dynamic than she usually does, that defied what a typical Stardom match is. It's interesting to see Giulia, who was a bully to many of her opponents during for the better part of 2020 and early 2021, to get a taste of her own medicine whenever it happens. Saki knows how to get under her skin and did so again. This match probably won't be a hit with fans who demand workrate all the time, but for those who like matches to be unorthodox and have a different edge to them here and there, this match really worked and I loved the ending. Saki and Giulia have surprisingly good chemistry with each other and this was their best encounter yet. I'm already anticipating their next match. |
