[7.0] "The first part of the match with both tag teams cooperating to take out Suicide - largely unsuccessfully, as the four-on-one attacks failed as often as they worked - didn't make sense, obviously designed to get the video game character over as a world-beater. Once the MCMG and Lethal Consequences started working as separate teams the match got a little better, but ganging up is still a heel thing, so Lethal and Creed should've been above it and the match was diminished by the lack of a free-for-all atmosphere that characterizes multi-man matches. Aside from those issues, the action was pretty good X-Division fare. Crowd was not happy that Suicide won, the decision to position two home town boys in Sabin and Shelley as losers was obviously a bad one from the start, though the masked man never did manage to get over in the way TNA wanted."

[6.0] "While this wasn't bad, it wasn't close to being worth the risk that was taken by all throughout. The effort was there, but the key moments/big spots were overly convoluted, the premise of the match was all over the place as well being that this was a Champion against 2 other teams, and it was overlong."

"Obvious winner and some very contrived and illogical spots, also went abit long but it was still an exciting opener for a PPV. 3.69/5."

[10.0] "This match was amazing! Taking place during my hiatus from wrestling, I am grateful that TNA uploaded the whole PPV to YouTube, so it is new to me . I was not familiar with the story but quickly surmised that Suicide was despised and the other four men, including two tag teams, were conspiring against him. The stipulation sounded hokey, and I saw a King of the Mountain match previously that did not make the most of the rules, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how the match worked with great spots and psychology, like one MCMG pinning the other or the dog pile to pin Suicide regardless of who got credit for the pin. Guest commentator and title custodian Curtis Granderson was a lot of fun, too."

[8.0] "Armed with a ton of time as the opener, TNA's X-Division delivers, as usual. Even by mid-2009, there's a palpable motivation among this crew, still striving to answer questions that the promotion barely cared to ask for much longer. This match is packed with the innovation that defined this division, combining creativity with a collection of horrifying bumps. It's got personality too, benefitting from the extended runtime and colouring things in a little along the way. Tremendous opener! ***3/4"

[8.0] "Oh boy, what a blast this match was. Everything I love about the X-Division summed up in one match, in a unique stipulation with unique action that is the strength of this division. You give the X-Division guys a King Of The Mountain match, of course they were going to deliver, absolutely no surprises and yet I still managed to be surprised by the level displayed by all five. The quality of the spots, the creativity of them, their execution and above all the very good booking of the match, everything about it ruled so much. Great finish, on top of that."

[8.0] "This was an awesome match. You had 5 guys who wanted to steal the show and that's exactly what they did. What made it interesting is four of the wrestlers made up 2 different tag teams, that being Lethal Consequences and the Motor City Machine Guns, who were super over here in Detroit. Another thing I enjoyed is that going into the match, regardless of being babyface or heel, nobody liked Suicide. There were a ton of spots that were set up pretty well, but also a few funny moments, like everyone celebrating that Suicide, who was Frankie Kazarian under a mask, was in the penalty box and Chris Sabin allowing Alex Shelley to pin him to become eligible to win the match. Honestly, this is probably the second best King of the Mountain match I've seen, right behind the 2007 match. ****1/4"

This was just a great showdown to watch, so many interesting moves and combinations, lots of crazy spots. The Detroit crowd was freakin' hot. Overall, an insanely good X-Division opener! A must-see for everyone!"
