6 | 12.11.2022 | arrancar | 6.0 | Good match but ultimately disappointing as a match for a major title. I'm still not sold on Kamitani as a top star despite her continuing to get a push that builds her up to that position. That's mostly because her 'flashy' attacks are mostly just done for the sake of looking cool rather than with a genuine sense of realism behind them as if she's using them to actually dish out damage, and she can often look rather awkward when setting those attacks up or executing them. I also find it off-putting how often her sympathetic babyface-selling delves into 'crybaby' territory, since that makes her look far too weak, even for an underdog character. Tam was good here, but I also haven't been especially enthralled by her performances the last few years. I enjoyed her submission work targeting Kamitani's neck early on, even if it ultimately led nowhere for either woman (in typical Stardom fashion). The match picked up once it found a story in Tam calmly yet viciously beating Kamitani down with a barrage of stiff strikes, leading to something awakening in Kamitani as she then fired up and let loose some stiff strikes of her own. Her striking technique looked pretty amateurish at points, but I still at least appreciated the change in her attitude, as it led to both of them having some quite fiery strike exchanges as they pushed themselves to exhaustion. The match further picked up as they brought out some cool rapid run-on counters and big-move trades, though their big individual spots were never especially impressive, and the majority of their interactions still felt underwhelming compared to how they'd come off if there was a vocal crowd in attendance, since seeing them both treat certain moves as (for lack of a better word) 'epic' always fell pretty flat when it was met with almost pure silence from the crowd. Still quite a good performance but nothing too memorable. ***1/4 |

16 | 04.11.2021 | hassan01 | 9.0 | Astounding effort from the girls here.Tam's reign so far is spectacular and this match is also an addition to those many fantastic matches. I highly commend the story telling power and clarity vividly present in the match. The ring psychology factor was well displayed and implemented too. Saya has a taped up abdominal region and Tam takes notice of it soon enough as she focuses her offense and attention towards targeting it mercilessly. The submission predicament where she was stretching the abdominal looked very ruthless as the anatomical dissection would continue for the rest of the match as well. Saya did a decent job at selling it which was good enough to suspend disbelief making it believable as she would try to cancel out the pain and fight for the big prize. Tam also had bad ass killer vibes as she beat Saya to the pulp , beat the living daylights out of her especially with one of those knocking forearms that left such a loud voice and the spinning kick right on the money. Tam would look to avenge her loss at the Cinderella tournament. This match culminated into a battle of attrition as the match would intensify and convert into a hard hitting and vicious slug-fest. The relationship between the two if examined was also very interesting. A shopai(Saya) and senpai(Tam) relationship. Tam and Saya had faced in the past when Saya was young and she gave her a fight but it was just not enough. Here, Saya proved to Tam how much she had progressed and that she was not the same Saya. Saya is a legit threat to her reign. The match was structured and developed very brilliantly and wisely. The vast story telling provides the match a exciting layer and flavor too which is great. Saya also gets the opportunity to showcase her fighting spirit and determination as the fight does not end easily. Despite the efforts and hard hitting strike exchanges, it only fuels the competitors to dig in deep and end up doing something that can finally put the other away but it is not that easy. The match started off with a superb technical mat wrestling sequence and then into a back and forth match with Saya fighting through her injury disadvantage as nothing will hold that fiery passion back. There is also a good palm strike sequence but some of those strikes connected poorly and I think they also over did it. There were still some really blistering shots across the face that I liked. Twilight kick would result in a near fall as Saya was still willing to fight and not give up but soon after the Twilight dream would put her away after a grueling and ferocious battle. Suplex sequences were cool to witness. The match had incredible pacing and momentum. It had momentous intensity and energetic atmosphere surrounding it. Scintillating sequences and move transitions too for majority of the match except for a few bland spots. Immense presence of drama with Saya's near falls and Tam barely kicking out of the hurricarna roll up. Great booking choice with Tam retaining. ****1/2 |

18 | 11.09.2021 | TheCorwo | 3.0 | A byproduct of Stardom joining the Bushiroad banner is its matches becoming increasingly New-Japan-like. Whether that be increased match length, dancey counter sequences, strike exchanges, or prolonged mat work that is ultimately meaningless. There was more than a little of that here. Saya didn't sell long-term effects of the early neck work, which lasted a good 5+ minutes. The strike exchanges were ineffectual at best and downright ugly at worst. For many, the wrist-control spot is a prime example of the eyeroll-inducing, hollow "storytelling" that plagues NJPW's matches. Whereas in Okada/Tanahashi that moment was meaningful, one of defiance and a refusal to give up, here it felt like Tam and Saya pulled out that spot because they were going through a Big Match Checklist. The match was also surprisingly one-sided, with Saya being swallowed up by Tam at times. As someone who's not a very dynamic seller, that worked against her. There was an attempt to infuse emotion into this match, but it didn't resonate with me for the aforementioned reasons. *1/2 |

23 | 31.07.2021 | boymeetsworld | 3.0 | Cinderella Tournament used to be a golden ticket to the Main Event for a wrestler that is ready for the spot, no matter the result (Iwatani, Watanabe, Hoshiki, hell even Giulia), but Kamitani just didn't belong in this match. There was never a point in a match where you can think that there is even a small chance of Kamitani winning. This match was VEEEEEEEERY slow (basically this could've been an 11-minute match), but at the same time VEEEEEEERY by the numbers in a bad way - it didn't feel like this was a match they really wanted to have (because they're not very good in the ring), instead, it felt like they tried to not fuck anything up, so even though everything they did made sense, nothing got over (for example an attempt of 'Ibushi Murder spot' from Kamitani). Tam Nakano showed signs of improvement though - her control segment was noticeably better than it usually is. They tried to make their 'emotional' post-match angle meaningful, but of course it came across bad because the match wasn't any good. This match made Cinderella Tournament mean much than it was before. If you think about it though, it was still better than that atrocious Giulia vs. Tam Nakano match last year when Giulia won the title. |

30 | 14.07.2021 | killowenskill | 5.0 | Despite the fact that I consider their match in the Cinderella tournament a complete disaster, I liked their interactions in tag team matches, they were pleasant and made the matches more interesting. But what I saw here was different from their work in tag team matches, and I willn't say that I am very surprised by this. Most of the actions used shout that "We cooperate with NJPW, so we want to look like a full-fledged appendage of them", but this doesn't just deprive the match of at least some uniqueness, destroying the fruits of the "student-teacher" dynamic, it kills the whole match, because these things simply don't work. The moment with sudden aggression and slaps in the face is a big parody of Kota Ibushi, Kamitani's favorite wrestler, but you can make a reference, or you can just copy it at an absolutely inopportune moment of the match, and absolutely not caring about how it will look in the realities of their history. Half of the match was simply not needed, because after that moment it was forgotten and ceased to matter, as well as the work on Saya's hand that began at a certain moment. Among other things, as the person below noted, there were a lot of spots taken from the match of Hayashishita and Syuri, and given the success of that match, this is too bold a decision. But what suited Syuri and Utami looked unnatural already here, and coupled with Kamitani's emotionality, which is at a catastrophic level, this turns the match into an absurdity. But I willn't give this a low rating just because of Nakano's unique talent for making everything she touches important, and her acting, along with these thoughtful views, really touched me. And let it be more about the post-match segment, Nakano lived through this match and did everything to make it look decent within her title reign (**1/2). |

32 | 13.07.2021 | Black Mass With Love | 5.0 | Thank you Tam for 5/10 for this match. Kamitani is bad and still very green and inexperienced. She wrestles like a zombie without bringing any emotion even when she tries to be emotional. I don't know what's wrong with her. Saya is the opposite of "charisma". Usually moments with a series of slaps in the face evoke emotions, but Kamitani somehow managed to screw up even that, and I felt absolutely nothing, looking at her chaotic slaps, more than half of which did not even hit Nakano's face. Okay, this is only one moment, but all the match was vapid and empty even considering the story between teacher and trainee. Some sequences or moments were similar to the Utami vs. Syuri match, only as very bad demos. Not such a terrible match just because of Tam. |

36 | 09.07.2021 | inauric | 6.0 | A good match that to me felt a little formulaic. Strong spots a plenty with very impressive work but I felt a fair amount of it was unearned or at some points over-acted. Tam since holding the belt has not seemed to know what to do with being in control, she seems better chasing a title than defending it. Saya has already proven she can hold her own in a match like this. So overall this felt like an entertaining formality. |

The strike battles weren't high level, but what they lacked in technique they made up for in unbridled emotion, and that is the kind of storytelling that is typical of the white belt. The pace felt a little off in the beginning, but they developed a good rhythm as the match progressed. Tam's body work and kicks were great. And Kamitani, who took a lot of damage head-on and yet refused to back down, was super compelling to watch. There was something reminiscent of Mayu Iwatani in her performance. **** |

53 | 05.07.2021 | pierreMinne | 7.0 | This one was a really good match, and for me it's the best of the show but I feel like it's a bit overrated here. This was too long for what it was and in some sequences I didn't see the direction of the match, this was a match where a big part of it was interesting, but where we can also see a lack of relevance sometimes. Kamitani is really good, she does another very good performance and she can clearly become a future big star. Now, I hope SLK takes the title away from Tam. ***3/4 |
54 | 05.07.2021 | Wright15 | 9.0 | It's close, but I think this was slightly below Saya's challenge against Utami in Budokan and Tam's defense against Natuspoi. While there were some shaky moments (Saya's striking is a little suspect, and she was a bit off on the Phoenix Splash attempt), the emotion and intensity in the second half were top notch. Tam is one of the best in the business at slap exchanges, which always come at the perfect time. She was at the top of her game here, and Saya kept up with her in an excellent match. ****1/4 |

57 | 05.07.2021 | Target | 4.0 | To be honest, it seemed to me that I see this match the way many see it. He's really really bad. And this is despite the fact that I was waiting for this match and it seemed to me that it would be the best Saya fight in her career, because Nakano has a very good style for this. Saya is still trying to carry out high-fly techniques that absolutely do not suit her. Compare the speed of Io Shirai and Saya Kamitani. I have a feeling that the conventional YOSHI-HASHI is capable of doing acrobatic techniques no worse than Saya. This is not a stone in Saya vegetable garden. I want to say that she either needs to hone her skills (I don't see any progress in acrobatics), or not do it at all, because looking at how Tam looks and waits for Saya to complete her acrobatic technique is simply ridiculous. Okay, let's move on. Then the not completely incomprehensible fake epic. Saya is a fan of Kota, that's cool, but did you see her go into "Berserk mode" like Kota? For the first time in joshi wrestling, I felt Spanish shame. It looked so ridiculous and uncharacteristic. The idea behind this mode is that an ordinary (rather calm) Kota does not become himself, but why did Kamitani use it? In addition, she carried out all these evil blows very weakly and accurately, which already contradicts the idea of ? this regime. I will note the epic, incomprehensible to me, which they demonstrated in this match. Looking so serious, it is not really justified in the context of their connection, which is that they danced together as idols, lol? Saya slaps looked very weak in comparison to Tam blows. In general, I want to say that Kamitani is still very, very green, even if it is developing on the sly. The best in this match is probably the last two minutes and that's it. **3/4 |

68 | 04.07.2021 | math1823 | 9.0 | Absolutely fantastic match. I don't like to make useless comparisons, but that's almost scary how Tam is three leagues above her CA partners. The worst thing about it is, Tam isn't a great athlete. BUT she perfectly knows everything else, how to pace a match, how to sell, how to bring emotions, how to put over someone while putting herself over... In fact, she is absolutely perfect for the White Belt. The only thing you need for a good Tam match is an opponent who has great athletic abilities, and who is better to take that role than one of the best high-flyers in women's wrestling today. Saya did an incredible job here, it's her best match yet imo, only her slaps looked weak but that's a very small part of the match. Tam's reign isn't perfect, but her defenses are insane. I liked this match as much as the one against Poi, and a little bit less than the one against Giulia. ****1/2 |
69 | 04.07.2021 | Janii | 9.0 | This match was great and the best of the show for me! The exchanges were good and it was awesome how Kamitani unleashed on Nakano with slaps, forearms and kicks in the corner, but it wasn't enough to put her mentor away. The ending stretch was great and there were some near-falls which got me on the edge of my seat. I'm just sad that Saya lost :( |
70 | 04.07.2021 | Suzukigun | 8.0 | While this match wasn't the show stealer many were hoping for, it was still a really good match with some quality storytelling. There was some really good striking here and the pacing was good. I liked both of the slap battles and overall battle of wills. The Star Crash spot was really good and got me to believe we might get a title change for a split second. One minor complaint would be that Saya's landing after going for her final finish looked kind of rough, but maybe it was planned? It was fine though. The match was good, the aftermath was emotional and seeing Mina and Unagi reunite afelter the match was a feel good moment. |
71 | 04.07.2021 | Rocky7 | 8.0 | Just shaded the tag title match as the best of the show, albeit under unfortunate circumstances later on. Kamitani put on a great challenge in her bid to surpass her mentor, but Tam Nakano had too much at present, just about seeing the Cinderella Tournament winner off. This won't be their last meeting for certain, especially since they're in the same 5 Star GP block. |
