Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy

[6.0] "This basically felt like a submission match for the first half of the match with Matt targeting Jeff's leg for the majority of it. Smart work but the I Quit stipulation requires a bit more drama & action and this match didn't offer a lot of that until the ending. Credit to Matt, his speech at the end begging Jeff to leave him alone was really well acted but the match needed more of that to really stick with me. Their Mania match was better ***1/4"

"This Hardy vs Hardy stuff is always as bad as I remember, but at least it made me laugh this time. Matt tied to the table. Haha."

[4.0] "Seriously? This match is so boring, I started sleeping during their submissions and there's nothing that can be remembered during its 20 minutes. Also the ending is so bad, I can't believe that this feud didn't end at WrestleMania with Jeff Hardy as the winner. (4/10)"

[3.0] "Their wrestlemania match was way better in my opinion - Felt the lack of weapons made this very boring - Sure this was the PG era and they could only limit what they did but even then this was incredibly boring"

[7.0] "This was a good match, about on par with their Wrestlemania match, and while it wasn't as violent, it was still solid and was a good way to end the Hardy Boyz feud."

[4.0] "I liked the mania match, but this was truly a brutal watch. How can you make an I Quit match boring? It just feels entirely heatless, no real stakes at all. These two had countless great matches before and after this in multiple stipulations. It just feels both men were phoning it in."

[3.0] "I did not like their Mania match at all, but this was much worse and I'm pretty shocked that this has positive reviews. Jeff and Matt really had no chemistry as opponents despite their incredible chemistry as a tag team, and this storyline is really lame to me. The melodrama at the end of the match was cringeworthy and the use of the stipulation overall I thought was quite bad - I Quit is a really difficult stip to get right and I thought this instance was a really poor time to use it. The action has much less excitement than the previous match and I just found the match to be mind numbing for the most part."

Perhaps, it's because there's belief that the Hardys are capable or producing Wrestling madness classics and anything resulting below (possible) five star quality is deemed failure, which should never be the case. If you were disappointed in their mania match, then this was for you. If you were disappointed in this, then you don't like good pro wrestling."

[4.0] "I quit is one of my least favorite stipulations, but this one is worse than most that I've seen. Just really dull with endless submissions, barely any weapons used in a what is supposed to be a blood feud. The finish however is pretty clever and not something I've seen before."

[4.0] "I am sorry, but I just did not like this. Found it on WWE vault and figured it would be a fun watch. It was mostly plodding, strikes and submission holds. Nobody touched a weapon until 16 min in and the only actual bump came after Matt already quit. Not much intensity or violence to match the stipilation"

[7.0] "In a rare brother vs. brother singles encounter, Matt and Jeff Hardy clashed at Backlash 2009 in a match filled with emotion, psychology, and athleticism. The bout stood out as a refreshing display of storytelling rather than a pure spotfest, which some fans might have expected from the high-flying Hardy duo. From the outset, the match showcased their familiarity with each other's styles. Counters were frequent, reversals were slick, and both wrestlers demonstrated sharp timing. Jeff leaned into his fast-paced, risk-taking approach, while Matt brought a more methodical offense, grounding Jeff and targeting his back and neck. Midway through the match, Jeff hit a Whisper in the Wind and a Twist of Fate, but Matt managed to get a foot on the ropes to break the pin, adding tension and drama. The crowd was firmly split, with chants alternating between both brothers. The closing stretch saw Jeff going for the Swanton Bomb, only for Matt to roll away. Capitalizing on the miss, Matt delivered a well-timed Twist of Fate of his own and scored the pinfall in a hard-fought, clean victory. Match Highlights: o Jeff's Whisper in the Wind was executed flawlessly. o Strong in-ring psychology and storytelling. o Smooth counters and a clean finish without interference. Why It's an 7/10: The match delivered on emotional storytelling and had solid in-ring work. While it wasn't packed with high-flying moments or hardcore spots, it was a mature, grounded bout that showed both brothers' evolution as solo competitors. The lack of a major feud buildup or stipulation slightly held it back, but overall, it was a memorable sibling showdown."

[7.0] "I personally think this is a tad bit better than their WWE WrestleMania 25 (2009) clash, a real solid match between both brothers with some nice action and it was great that Jeff won over instead of Matt in the end."

[4.0] "At least they didn't use the furniture in the absurd amounts like at WrestleMania, but it still wasn't a good grudge match. I don't know if they're afraid of hitting each other as brothers, but it felt like a normal wrestling match between two random guys. I'll give it to them that they came up with a clever finish, but at the same time watching Matt letting Jeff tape him without any resistance was just painful."

[6.0] "Expectations were high, given the nature of both wrestlers, but the result was a bit disappointing. They definitely held in back for some reason and did not try to go all out. Apart from the ending spot, the rest of the bout was kind of vanilla, it was just there. Solid action, but ultimatelynot enough for an I Quit match,"

[5.0] "This is pretty much the definition of following a shooting with a stabbing. It seemed like after their Wrestlemania match with bells and whistles, they wanted to dial it back and have a more grounded match. Might I say that maaaaaaybe an I Quit match isn't the best stipulation if that's what you want to do? The match was more akin to a submission match than an I Quit match. The match they had just didn't click with the stipulation. It was just kind of...plain. The final spot was very convoluted on top of it. I can't really say there was anything particularly bad about the match. It was fine for sure. It just underdelivered and certainly doesn't satisfy as the ending to a brother vs. brother feud. Not a bad watch, but you'd really expect more."

[7.0] "Pretty decent match but still didnt quite meet expectations similar to their Wrestlemania encounter. There wasnt enough hardcore action for my liking, especially between these two."

[6.0] "It carries the audience away but unfortunately it's not very dynamic for my taste. It's trying to be technical in a stipulation that shouldn't be, the objects are brought back at the very end for the final spot which takes a very, very long time to set up. The finish is very good and saves this match. (3*)"

[4.0] "The definition of "underwhelming". Freaking Hardys in an I "Quit" Match where only one weapon was used and it was after the damn match! It's a no-no for me. Maybe the psychology was fine, but still, there was no reason for them to work a regular match given the stipulation. I won't go back"

[5.0] "Knowing the stipulation and the two guys involved I thought seeing it was a great failure. A feud that I remember in my good old days as a teenage fan of the business that I loved as construction and Build Up, but that disappointed me as a match quality. WrestleMania 25 their match was a bit of a disappointment, this at Backlash was a big failure. An I Quit Match should not be a match of submission with some use of tables and ladders, they tried to make a technical match, but it was not what people expected from the Hardys. So, in my opinion, they went off the road with this. They'll do better in Impact with the broken saga a few years later."

[9.0] "Great match, strong action and an extremely good finish. Matt's promo at the end is top notch heel stuff."

[7.0] "Better than their Mania match not as good as their stretcher match. I loved the finish to this match, Matt Hardy was great to be fair to him. ***1/4"
