23 | 09.07.2024 | Styles619 | 8.0 | This was a great match. Despite the goofy way the feud started, that being Kurt Angle being AJ's mentor and AJ getting a crush and having an affair with Kurt's then wife Karen. AJ Styles was a house of fire in this match, as the feud got very personal as time went on. There's a lot of great spots here in this match and the finish looked great too with AJ hitting Kurt with a top rope DDT. I will say the one thing that hurt the match was that you had to pin or submit your opponent before making them stay down for the count of 10. Now they were able to make it work, but if it was a regular Last Man Standing match, I'll bet this would have been even better. ****1/4 |
24 | 17.06.2024 | Dawracik | 7.0 | The stipulation here is needlessly complicated. TNA tried to reinvent the wheel by adding a pinfall/submission to a Last Man Standing match and it screwed the pace up. AJ & Angle were obviously great here. Two of the best wrestlers ever with great chemistry. It started slow, but developed quite well. I will say, if you're billing something as LMS, you should probably feature some kind of weaponry imo. They had a good match even without any though. Two great wrestlers handicapped by a bum stipulation, but doing their best to have a good match in spite of it and succeeding fairly well. |

42 | 10.08.2023 | tommyyy1714 | 6.0 | Stipulation on this was kinda dumb, didn't feel like a personal feud at all until the post-match. Cool stuff off the stage but not a whole lot else in the first 10, things definitely pick up though and there's some pretty nice spots. A DDT off the top rope to a guy with neck problems is a pretty good finish - ***1/4 |
43 | 30.07.2023 | Divus Rolexus | 8.0 | Really good match but I wouldn't go for a 9. Angle doing a Somersault off the stage was cool. I really liked how Styles countered the Angle Slam into a Styles Clash, it was pretty creative. The finish is really cool too, Styles spiking Angle with a DDT from the top rope looks great and Angle sold it really well. I'm glad they chose this move to be the finish, it's totally coherent. Only thing that bothered me, it's not a Last Man Standing match, it's a Texas Deathmatch. I don't know why they didn't call it that way. |

46 | 13.04.2023 | TheLegitBoss | 9.0 | Great match between Styles and Angle right here, I'm one of those who liked their first encounter a few weeks earlier but there's no doubt that here it was much better, which is understandable because in their first match they had surely limited themselves to not reveal the full extent of their chemistry directly. But the famous great match we wanted between two of the best performers in history, here it is. Terrific action with an original stipulation, a red hot crowd and absolutely delicious transitions & counters, they are so fantastic together in the same ring. |

55 | 09.08.2022 | Geo93 | 9.0 | Kurt Angle and AJ Styles have a phenomenal (ayyyy) match here. I wasn't too sure about the Last Man Standing-style rules here. The fact that you had to successfully have a three count before the ten count began was a little weird, to be honest. However, that's the only real flaw I can give this match and these two really pulled it off. Amazing spot, after amazing spot. These are two of the greatest of all time, so it's no surprise. The final DDT off the top rope was sick, considering Kurt Angle's history with neck injuries. Every spot between these two felt perfectly done, and this was all just so smooth. |

73 | 26.12.2019 | AndoCommando | 8.0 | This is billed as a Last Man Standing match but uses Texas Death match rules where a wrestler must pin or submit their opponent and then have them fail to respond to a count of 10. The feud while outrageous is bitter going into this match with Styles wanting revenge on Kurt after being assaulted weeks prior. Angle toys with Styles early on, wanting his emotions to get the better of him as he lands some heavy punches and uppercuts to keep him grounded. Styles retaliates with punches of his own, his signature dropkick and Tope to the outside. It's a back-and-forth match that often goes to the outside, driven by the emotions of both men here. Styles wants nothing more but to render him unable to leave on his own two feet, and Angle is more than happy to put the younger wrestler in his place, even hitting some high-flying offense of his own to spite him. It takes a while to find its rhythm and isn't heavily focused on technique; just a rough-fought bout between two of TNA's best. Honestly love the pinfalls and submission victories; they helped keep the match from an overreliance of finishers and both men's pride played a part in them hesitating on giving up early to break the hold. Angle builds on his advantage further into the match, going for an Angle Slam as soon as AJ gets back to his feet. Though this does backfire as the predictability of his plan leads to a smooth reversal into the Styles Clash. These guys had great chemistry in the ring, even here you can feel the disdain these two have for the other. It all builds to a satisfying yet scary finish due to Angle's legitimate neck issues. Styles came across like a star beating the former World Champion, before looking like a thug attacking the man afterwards, living up to his words that he'd be the last man standing. This has sentimental value to me, being the first TNA match I ever saw, as well as the first time I watched AJ Styles, but I still believe it holds up as a great match worth looking back on. **** |

80 | 27.05.2018 | Dragon Fighter | 3.0 | Meh, one of the most boring No DQ matches i have ever seen. Some spots outside the ring were really exciting and that was why this was not lower than 3. The rest was boring. 2 guys traded moves to each other soullessly. The rule was dumb as hell. Doing a pinfall before counting 10 for LMS ? Nothing special in my eyes. No good by any means. |
81 | 13.12.2017 | seriousbusiness | 8.0 | I think this match still holds up as a great match, but not as a classic like I have heard many say. I mean first off the rules were pretty dumb in needing a pin before going for a 10 count, but I digress. This was still a great back and forth match with some huge spots towards the end. Yeah it was slower than I expected, but it build to a satisfying enough finish, ****1/4. |
82 | 05.07.2017 | anglejoe | 10.0 | Einfach Klasse was die Beiden abliefern. Ich wünsche mir noch eine längere Fehde. Man könnte denen stundenlang zusehen. Von beiden Seiten ein TOP Match, das Spannung und gutes technisches Wrestling bot. |
83 | 19.04.2017 | Chett Chetterfield | 8.0 | |
84 | 18.03.2017 | SuTon | 4.0 | This is an odd match. The first pin fall is through a reversal of a Styles Clash by Angle and AJ locking in the Ankle lock. The commentary tried to play up this aspect of Kurt trying to show he outshine AJ, but it was more focused on Kurt's experience/mind games in contrast to AJ's fury. That's quickly forgot about as it doesn't play into the match after the predictable first few minutes where Angle is ducking outside the ring until AJ chases him or playing chicken in order to throw him out the ring to get a breather. The submission has no drama or built to it, it just happens, perhaps because it simply because it would be "cool" regardless of context. Ofo course it gets "This is awesome! " chants because that's what it was designed for. The attempted Styles Clash from Angle is almost immediately after a powerbomb counter from a top rope attempt by AJ, but it gets no breathing room and AJ barely sells it at all before getting that Ankle Lock counter in. This is a problem throughout with no clear story being conveyed and focus on cool spots e. g. the now common spot where two opponents collide with each other. What makes that work is the stuff done right beforehand that establishes them as equals, but this just skips to it. Angle sold horribly, often foregoing signs of exhaustion after getting attacked by AJ when he goes on the offense. After the submission, Angle oversells the ankle, then just forgets about it after awhile, and nearly immediately gives AJ four german suplexes. It's also a Kurt Angle match, so it falls into the traps of over reliance on finishers, reversals of them, or near-fallls. There's a severe lack of meaningful transitions, intensity, sense of urgency, and drama to this match. Kurt is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is if he believes this is one of his best matches. |

Großartiges Last Man Standing Match zwischen 2 Weltklasse-Wrestlern. **** 1/4 (7) |
89 | 06.04.2016 | NastyYaffa | 1.0 | This was a bit better than their absolutely awful match from Slammiversary that happened 2 months earlier, but this was still really bad, in my opinion. The brawling in the beginning was pretty good, and really the best thing about this match, as everything after that brawl in the beginning was just BAD. It was just them trading moves w/ no real intensity or sense of urgency. Styles & Angle brought out the absolute worst out of each other in 2008. Awful stuff. * |

This was an awesome match, though I still do not get why TNA calls this a Last Man Standing Match but uses Texas Death Match Rules where you need to pin the guy before the ten count. They're two different matches, not the same thing! Anyway, this was great. No other way to put it. One of the better TNA matches of 2008. |

98 | 20.11.2013 | TheIbar | 9.0 | Well, it's the case of TNA being "creative" again. I have no idea why they decided to add pinfalls and submissions before the count. But if you can sit through the part before Angle's Northern Lights Suplex into the guard rail, you will get royally entertained. Kurt and AJ busted some nice and extreme moves and that was really pleasing. The fans were great, they reacted to every single major moment in the match. Overall, that was an amazing "Last Man Standing" match (not that brutal) with a lot of outstanding moments. |
