57 | 26.05.2024 | Mizzle Assault Ant | 9.0 | Very underrated, in my book! I loved this, the intensity and technique of Benoit against the creative and unorthodox offense of RVD. These guys have such different styles but they really made it work in this match. I loved Benoit ripping away at RVD, that series of arm trap northern lights suplexes was incredibly awesome. Not quite the best match of the night but one of the best for sure. |
58 | 19.05.2024 | JacquesRougeauCanHaveMyWife | 7.0 | I loved how Benoit was constantly working on RVD's shoulder, so he could tap him out to a Crossface, plus he didn't make it tideous and was actually unique with it. Rob had really nice facials in this bout and you could really believe that he had his arm screwed up, while his offense looked as good as always. Really solid contest, exactly what you would expect from these two. |

62 | 16.04.2024 | ParagraphText | 8.0 | I went in with my expectations kind of high because I mean, look at these two guys. Benoit dominates the match (like he should) just absolutely brutalizing RVD focusing on his shoulder for Crippler Crossface but not exclusively. He's so brutal that he busted his own lip open. RVD is selling his heart out and his peril is palpable. RVD doesn't get too much in, missing a Five Star Frog Splash before getting crippler crossfaced and thrown off the top turnbuckle to the floor. This match fucks as long as you're not RVD's family. The crowd is chanting "asshole" at Benoit while he's heeling it up. There's a thing that Benoit does in this match that I haven't seen in a while and had me popping for it. RVD reaches for the rope and when he's a finger length away, Benoit reaches out, grabs his arm to bring it into his body and transitions to a submission that traps that arm. RVD sells the thing by gesturing in all directions trying to find the nearest rope. RVD gets the match back by countering a top rope suplex into a crossbody and then hitting the Five Star for a kind of flat finish. |

64 | 13.04.2024 | cactus | 8.0 | It's quite frustrating how great Benoit is at wrestling as it always pains me to give him props. He pulls off an incredible sequence where he floats over from a Northern Lights and doesn't let RVD get a move in as he grinds him down before finally sinking in the crossface, all without breaking the chain sequence. This didn't do much to pop the crowd in 2002, but I know it would be gif'd to death if it happened on a modern wrestling show. Benoit brings out the best in RVD and the result is a super physical match where all the holds have a sense of struggle about them. They get plenty of time to let things build. An important turning point of this match is when RVD takes a tumble from the tip rope to the outside security wall. RVD immediately lets the viewer know that this has knackered his arm and shoulder and Benoit begins a intense control segment on Van Dan's injury. The fans are quite quiet to start things off, but RVD being so over gives the wrestlers a bit leverage and allows them to take their time and do a match with a lot of slower technical wrestling. |

67 | 09.03.2024 | Giantfan1980 | 7.0 | Rob uses some kicks to start, pretty stiff, and Benoit catches a leg and takes him down. Benoit misses a charge and RVD cross bodies for 2. German suplex almost kills Rob. Benoit goes for the neck, and a short arm clothesline gets 2. Back breaker gets 2. Snap suplex gets 2. Benoit tries a standing armbar and elbows him down, but Rob packages for 2. Monkey flip, but Benoit drops him and starts chopping. Rob goes up and misses the moon sault, and Benoit goes up and he misses the flying headbutt. Rob goes up and tries a 5 star but that misses as well. Benoit right to the crossface but RVD manages a foot on the ropes. Benoit goes back to chopping. Rob goes up and gets shoved off onto the barricade, then gets posted. Back in, Benoit gets a shoulder breaker and slugs him down for 2. Benoit tries a surfboard while security runs somebody out. Rob powers out, but Benoit holds the wrists and turns it into a strait jacket. Rob Rob gets away but Benoit takes him down again. RVD drops Benoit and goes for rolling thunder but Benoit grabs him and goes for the cross face. RVD counters but Benoit reverses into a counter and a cradle for 2. Rob works the arm and dropkicks it. Rob comes back with a springboard dropkick for 2. Spin kick and Rolling Thunder get 2. Rob goes up, but gets crotched and superplexed, RVD manages to counter and land on Benoit when they fall though. RVD is up first and lands the frog splash and gets the IC title back for Raw. Best match so far tonight! |

70 | 19.02.2024 | Thenxt observer | 8.0 | **** (8/10) If you are the superstitious type, then you're likely keen on Stephanie jinxing Smackdown during the prior segment, when she claimed that RVD bringing the IC title back to RAW would Never happen. The previous matches of the night had been around the ten minute range, each, though, successful in their own way. I suppose this was booked to go on a bit longer. It's always hard relieving a Chris Benoit performance due to the shadow that's forever cast over his legacy. Despite that being a sad truth, he had been involved in many, many of my personal favorite bouts. I remembered hearing Angle say once on his podcast that Chris made wrestling look real. I would agree with statement wholeheartedly. Gunther has the hardest chops, but Benoit had the sharpest. So far, every match on the card has featured a matchup between all-time greats. This was no exception. The intercontinental has also been my favorite title over the years. I was glad to see that it was held in high regard for SummerSlam 02, with even both Stephanie and Bischoff attentively watching on from backstage. The frog splash that RVD finished with was one of his best, literally turning fucking mid-air. Jeez. After the match, Bischoff said to Steph, 'I think it's safe for you to adhere to this old saying, never say never. |

81 | 15.11.2023 | Derek Joists | 8.0 | Benoit really brought the best out of RVD here, putting him on the defensive for much of the match and letting him show his technical wrestling ability as well as the high flying. Maybe an unexpected result, but one that made both men look strong in a very good match. |

93 | 26.06.2023 | Ruthless Attitude | 8.0 | They had a great match on Raw a few weeks before this that's worth checking out and this match is even better. Benoit just looked so crisp in there and that one spot where he had the crossface and then transitioned to anoth submission to prevent RVD from getting to the ropes. The mat wrestling style Benoit has doesn't play in to RVD's strengths, but he looked good out of his comfort zone and looked resilient which got the fans behind him more. That Five Star Frog splash where he turns in mid air never gets old. |

After watching the whole show for the first time and seeing this match finally, I really enjoyed it. Not a classic or anything, but Benoit's aggressive targeting of the shoulder was really fun to watch. This was a really good match and quite underrated. I feel like if they had taken 4-5 minutes off of the match and went at a faster pace, this could have been on par with Angle/Rey in the opener. If RVD had gotten a couple of his big spots in and Benoit got some his suplexes in, his match would be remembered much more fondly. As it stand, it's still worth a watch for sure. |

100 | 04.05.2023 | HeartbreakMan | 5.0 | I feel like almost every match on this card is rated weirdly, other than Michaels/HHH, because this is clearly not as good as Jericho/Flair or Guerrero/Edge. Its still alright, but I expected a lot more from two of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the business. Its similar to if Michaels/Hart just had an uncharacteristically average match on a great PPV. Unfortunate, but this isnt all bad or anything. Just nothing special. |
