[8.0] "Hogan defends the WWF title against the Big Boss Man in a steel cage. Hogan gets smashed by Zeus and is at a disadvantage before even entering the cage. Good heel logic on Boss Man's part, throwing Hogan into the cage to start the match. Not only that, but the officer chokes Hulkster with his own shirt after ripping it off. Hulk responds in kind. He tries to throw Boss Man into the steel. When that doesn't work, he wrecks the officer's eyes. Hell yeah! There are no rules, he's been ambushed and choked, so he's as vicious as his rival. The same goes for later on, when the chain that has served to choke him is used to punch the officer and bust him open. Great spot with the superplex; not only because of the bomb itself, but because of how Hulk sets it up by choking Boss Man with the steel cage. Much more sensible than you would expect given Hogan's reputation as a worker. Sure, he didn't do a great variety of moves; neither did his rival, for that matter. But they pull off a good match with punches, bots, chokes, and little more."
[7.0] "27/05/89 WWF. It was a decent match with a very good exciting finish. Plus the superplex was done very well, they didn't spend 5 mins obviously getting their bodies in the right position, instead it was all done with slight while the story was still being told the way it's suppose to be done. My main discern for this match is they had already buried Big Boss Man as a super heel with Hogan squashing him. Slick is great and the comical bump at the end is brilliant. The star the superplex gets is cancelled by the introduction of Zeus. 6.5*"
[10.0] "One of the all time heel performances for Hulk Hogan in his heyday : The Big Bossman. Holy hell is this guy athletic as hell at that size. Truly an impressive talent. The super plex is most famous but the whole match is what professional wrestling is about. 1989 rules."
[6.0] "For the time and place of the event, a nice tough, albeit short, cage match. The Bossman, slightly bloody, and the nice superplex from the edge of the cage, where even Hogan takes a risk, makes it memorable, but not a classic."
[7.0] "This was one of the more memorable matches from SNME, mainly due to the very impressive superplex off of the big blue steel cage (also who doesn't have nostalgia for that cage? ). Boss Man made for a perfect adversary for Hogan, keeping up blow by blow while dishing lots of punishment. There was the debut of Zeus at the beginning of the match, which was fairly awkward, but once we get past that it's a fun romp. ***1/2"
[7.0] "Zeus aside, this whole thing was great. Boss Man is a really good foe for Hogan here and the famous superplex spot is fantastic, especially for the time. The crowd LOVE this and it's an excellent build for Summerslam."
[6.0] "Decent and relatively quick cage match. The crowd was all over this which helped remedy the lack of work going on in the ring. Slick's shenanigans made this quite fun hardly a classic."
[7.0] "Hulk Hogan and Big Boss Man end their feud here. Zeus debuts as his character from "No Holds Barred", despite Hogan not being Rip. One of the worst decisions Vince had was to put Zeus into wrestling as he couldn't do anything. Zeus attacks Hogan before the cage match. Hogan and Boss Man had a good showing here. Slick added a lot to the match during the match."
[7.0] "This is a really good Steel Cage match for the time; I actually didn't know cage matches of this era could be this good. This is the match with the infamous superplex off the top of the cage; which was an insane spot for the time, and the two are legitimately knocked out from it momentarily. Hogan retains the belt. Hogan and Boss Man were a great pair. This made me want a Boss Man World Title run."
[7.0] "Fun match that really has the crowd going wild. They literally jump to their feet for the superplex spot, which is a pretty wild bump for a man as big as Boss Man even today. The match is quite well structured, and you can really see it pay off with how responsive the crowd is. If you aren't a fan of this style of wrestling then you'll probably find it pretty ordinary, but personally I thought it was very entertaining."
[6.0] "This was a fun little cage match for its time! Hogan hitting the Superplex on Bossman off the top of the cage was the 80's equivalent of Mick Foley taking the cage dive years later. Unfortunately this match also introduced us to the terrible Zeus storyline. This was pretty much the big blow off of the Hogan/Bossman feud. They did another cage match on an MSG show that was almost move for move the same here. Worth checking out the show for this match"
"8.0 I gotta say that I always pretty much despised hulk hogan always but this match made me kind of love him for this one moment. I think big boss man was hulks best big man opponent in that he felt he could overpower him and maintain his agility and girth. And hulk getting destroyed before bu Zeus was just beautiful and set it up for how heroic would have to be. And his heroism felt more real for once. Usually he's destroyed to oblivion and then no sells the whole series of moves that should leave him leveled. And that's not heroism, that's being a court jester and insulting your crowd. I felt like we didn't get this quality of hulk until he was nwo."
[6.0] "I had heard great things from this match forever, so my expectations were high. Well, my bad. I'm not saying the match wasn't good, but it was no different from your typical Hulk Hogan matches, aside from the superplex spot. The stuff with Zeus was bad though, I hated that storyline, and they focused on that way too much during this match. Still a pretty good steel cage bout for the title. [***]"
[6.0] "I have to say this was pretty disappointing, even though it was "good". It's pretty much just your normal steel cage match, but there was some heated drama. That superplex spot is what made it so memorable, despite the "nothing out of this world" quality of it. [***1/4]"
[6.0] "Very solid cage match, the drama with Zeus at the beginning I think helped this, adding to the possibility that Hogan could lose. That got the crowd into it even more. And of course the superplex spot is an amazing one for that time period, it's been done plenty of times since as well as more dramatic spots, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. Overall a lot of fun."
[7.0] "This is a good match, honestly one of Hogan's better singles match from a pure in ring/excitement perspective. That superplex was crazy, incredible bump from Boss Man."
[7.0] "Before the match even begins, Hogan is left lying on the arena floor by Zeus. The Boss man then almost decapitates the referee by kicking open the cage door to drag Hogan in. The match itself is okay. For a 10 minute Cage Match it serves its purpose. The suplex by Hogan from the top of the Steel Cage is the highlight of the match. Crowd was into it, Boss man played his role well, by utilizing a chain supplied to him by Slick, even Hogan using the chain to bust open Boss Man got cheers. The finish was very unique. And as always the post-match Hogan celebration is worth watching as well. A must see."
[9.0] "I give it a 9 only because they performed almost the same match at MSG a little earlier. Typical Hogan vs. Giant Power Heel, although the crazed lawman gimmick was unique. What was also unit was Hogan in a cage match. This was rare for him. What was unheard off was when he suplexed Bossman off the top of the cage. It was insane."
