915.07.2024BrettThousand9.0So great. Taue spends half the match as a ticking time bomb with Shibata and KENTA not only preventing him from tagging in but regularly knocking him off the apron, too. When he finally gets in he unleashes absolute hell on the two much younger opponents. A lot of great fire from Shiozaki plus cool teamwork spots from Shibata and KENTA.

1905.11.2022benny5bellys9.0I absolutely loved this. Taue is very much the era of "god damn it, these young punks keep trying to start fights with that I will have to finish" and it is a joy. KENTA and Shibata are just two mean little bastards and Go is there to get beat up.

2409.03.2021PuroresuLover7.0Man, Shibata and KENTA isolating Shiozaki and blocking Taue from even getting on the apron was so fucking great! The crowd was totally behind Taue and Shiozaki 'cause of Shibata and KENTA's mockery towards them and acting like true jackoffs. Everyone was on point here and did a good job, but my kudos go to the winner team, they were on fire on this match. ****

2706.05.2019Willie Jones8.0This was really great. It as remarkable how good Taue was considering how late this was in his career. Shibata was such a dick to him, taunting him and just being an a-hole to him that it really fired the crowd up. This felt like classic All Japan. Very fun. Worth checking out. ****.

3115.08.2017PUNQ6.0KENTA & Katsuyori Shibata -vs- Akira Taue & Go Shiosaki [***] No offense ment to KENTA or for that matter Go, they are great workers in their own way, but put in context in this match it was so obvious just how ordinary wrestlers they are when you see the incredible intensity Shibata can bring and how unbelievable original Taue is in his mannerisms. It's just amazing how much control he has over his audience and how visual he really is. Even if he's partly given up on being main eventer he still is one of the greatest wrestlers around which speaks volumes of his tallent and also a lot of what the current generation is missing in their wrestling ways. The way he takes what's coming and how positively animated he is when he's about to bust out some destructive offense. He's so damn charming and at the same time he tells a whole story with so little. Big Mouth Louds Shibata making an rare NOAH appearance looking so incredible legit. He wasn't pretend fighting or looking like he was holding back on his kicks. No, he was set to kill his opponents with his high speed. Watching Go try and attack him as Shibata was on the apron was a perfect example of Shibata's qualities. Go was really trying to get him, but Shibata used his quickness and avoided everything Go had to come with. Shibata is a fighter and wasn't going to give Go anything for free as he locked in a sleeper on Go who got nothing. A combination of these things made this match so damn sweet.

3328.04.2017NastyYaffa10.0The last time the Takeover lads tagged & much like their other 2 matches - this was a classic. Loved the beginning with Shibata & Taue starting things - Shibata invited Taue to mat wrestle with him & then Taue makes fun of Shibata's "martial arts" by doing the generic kungfu pose. Tremendous moment. The whole story of the match was KENTA & especially Shibata being complete dicks to Taue and it was just so FUN. They took cheap shots at him all the way through. Go was easily the most forgettable performer in the match, but even he did one helluva job in it - he rocked his FIP segment very well & the hot tag Taue gave to him was really good. So everybody was on point. And with that, the Takeover trilogy is complete - instantly when I finished this match my thought was "if KENTA & Shibata would've had a legit few year run as an active team, they would've gone down as one of the best teams ever". ****1/2
3422.04.2017Mizzle Assault Ant9.0Great match. The interaction with Taue and the two young guns shooting for him was pure gold. If that had remained the main focus of the match it could have been a 10, but I thought they got kind of carried away doing big moves and kind of lost focus of the story in the second half. Still, this is a great one.

3626.11.2016arrancar8.0This was a great match with a great story. Shibata was super keen to mess with Taue, as was Kenta to a lesser extent, and so they took lots of chances to try beat him down and take cheap shots at him. They were clearly trying to prove themselves as more than just mere youngsters by going up against a massive puro icon such as Taue. Taue was taking both of them lightly at first, but as they continued messing with him he became progressively angrier, which I loved. There was just so much passion between these 3, and it was communicated perfectly through all their moves. After keeping Taue on the sidelines for ages while Shibata and Kenta beat Shiozaki down Taue finally gets the hot tag and wrecks havoc on those annoying little youngsters. Taue is physically quite limited, but he managed to do a great job in showing resilience in surviving and withstanding Shibata's and Kenta's attacks and also did a surprisingly great job of making his offence against both of them look convincing. This all created a very cool generational divide story. Shiozaki was more of an afterthought in this match, sadly, but the other 3 all performed so well that Shiozaki's lack of presence wasn't a big deal. Nice story, nice strong-style skills, and lots of fun interactions. ***3/4
