The sequences , pacing , momentum were awesome and the spots perfectly timed . the booking choice was right too and i loved how Arn got ejected who had certainly lost his patience and that got him ejected from ringside. The near falls added drama to the match and some spots were simply amazing . Brian powerbombing Cody to the outside , Darby reversing the powerbomb into a sunset flip powerbomb and Brian connecting with the top rope avalanche was brutal . ***3/4 |

Everything was good in that match and Cody vs. Cage is really money. |

He had a killer opener last week with Matt Sydal and then topped himself here with the standout performance in a match that wasn't exactly lacking for talent. But while Cody, Starks and especially Darby had some killer moments, this was definitely the Cage show. His was breaking out all sorts of tricks thanks to his unreal combo of athleticism and strength, and he not only looked great throwing Darby around but bumped like a madman for the TNT champ, most notably in a Code Red/Yoshitonic spot that was mind numbingly great. It should not be possible for a man of Cage's size to make that move look as great as it did... but he did. The chemistry between him and Darby is fantastic and that match (which is coming given that Cage nearly ended Darby's life with that top rope Drill Claw) is going to be something to see. And as if all of that wasn't fun, AEW delivered another fun post match surprise in Will Hobbs coming out and turning heel, accepting the offer to join Team Taz with a great belt shot to Cody. It was exceptionally done, not just because it explained why Hobbs had been so late making the save the last few weeks but because the turn, combined with Cage's performance and more exceptional work by a rejuvenated Taz, instantly established an already entertaining Team Taz as a stable of bad asses. Plus it gives Hobbs a huge program with Cody, one I expect he'll deliver in. The match wasn't a classic, but it was borderline great thanks to Cage and the post match angle was marvelous. Another strong ending to a Dynamite. |
